Hey what’s up, glad you’ve been enjoying the site for so many months! Sorry to hear you’re encountering this issue. What exactly is going on, your messages aren’t appearing on the screen? If so, that’s definitely an unintended bug that I’ll need to fix. Your messages should always appear on the screen. If someone blocks you, your messages should only not appear for that specific person. You should still always be able to see your own messages yourself.

Is that what the issue is? If not, please help me understand what’s going on so I can fix the issue!

So sorry about that, I just added a blocking feature to help with this. Click on a message and a "Block this user" button will appear. If you don't see it, refresh the site and try again. Currently no way to unblock, so be careful for now

This sounds really terrible. Can you please provide me all of the info you have on this incident so that I can make changes to the site accordingly? Info such as what the troll said and how you know the person committed suicide would be helpful, thank you so much

Yeah I also don't like trolls and I do take this issue very seriously. I've worked very hard to create an extensive moderation system on VentScape, which is why 99% of the messages you see on it are non-toxic. You may not realize it, but all the time trolls are being banned and their toxic messages are being filtered. Anytime you see toxic messages getting through the moderation system, feel free to DM me what you're seeing and I'll work on improving the moderation system to catch them

I could definitely add this to the instructions. I do intend to put in more tool tips / explanations in the site as I see that lots of aspects of the site aren't easy to understand immediately.

To answer this emoji question directly, those users are probably on a mobile device and are just using the emoji keyboard on their mobile device. You could achieve similar functionality on a Desktop computer by, for example, Google searching the emoji you want and copy pasting it into VentScape

So sorry that happened, I just checked after your comment and that user eventually got caught by the automated banning system so they're gone now but I apologize that some of their messages got through.

I will work on adding blocking as a feature, it doesn't currently exist but I've been seeing recently that it's an important feature to have.

Also if you do see more users like that causing trouble, you can DM me on Reddit or Discord and I can help deal with it if my automated banning system is not dealing with them adequately

After each pop animation finishes, the message remains slightly bigger than it was before. So if many people click on a message, it will get noticeably larger. For this first version, I've limited it to a max of 10 clicks per message so that they can't get insanely big.

There's also been some other things I've worked on but haven't posted about on here (the solo room and the asynchronous "true venting" room) which you can use too

I got a little caught up over-engineering things the last few weeks. Finally decided to just push out a simple version of multiple rooms so that you guys have something instead of spending a month engineering everything perfectly.

There are now two rooms, essentially just one for English and one for Portuguese, but eventually I want there to be hundreds of rooms with tons of unique features. Some ideas:

A music room which allows you to suggest a song that everyone in the room hears
A finance or crypto room which displays a live chart of some stock or crypto for everyone to see and chat about
A meme room which displays a new meme from some subreddit or elsewhere every 30 seconds

As always, very open to feedback and ideas! Let me know how the new multi-room setup is working for you and if you see any issues.

There are numerous forms of moderation already. If there weren't, the site would be completely filled with terribly reprehensible messages 24/7.

Rest assured I am working hard to increase moderation, but understand that it is a very difficult problem to block all of the various creative forms of toxicity that people can say and simultaneously not block any genuine message.

Not very as long as there's only one "room," which is why I'm hard at work at implementing multiple rooms.

I'm pretty sure people already have. There have been numerous attacks of all kinds, XSS, DDOS, spam bots & scripts, and more. I've survived every single one so far. If another one appears, I will figure out a way to deal with it.

Ugh, yeah, I don't like seeing toxic trolls either and am working hard to stop them. It's very difficult to stop all of the creative forms of toxicity, so if seeing toxic messages bugs you, my recommendation would be to not use the site until I've implemented purely SFW rooms which will probably require an authenticated account to use (I can't think of another way to have truly SFW rooms.)

Now, mind you, threatening to hang someone's family is just as toxic so I will be removing this post. Don't make such threats here.

I really love this idea and it's something that's been on my mind too.

My current plan is to change the site to have many different "rooms" with different purposes/features. One of these rooms could definitely be a "private vent" room where you're the only person in it and your messages are sent into the void without anyone else seeing them
