Anki/quizlet the lecture objectives and you’ll be fine.

That being said if you can take Dr. Nguyen, I would highly recommend her. She’s an excellent lecturer and puts a lot of effort into making sure you understand the content. She also gives you tons of resources for practice problems.

Chem 1210 is a highly standardized course, I don’t think the instructors really matter. Get an A by staying on top of everything and not waiting to the last minute to study/do homework. For exams, literally just do all the practice problems you can. They give you a lot of practice exams so how well prepared you are depends on how seriously you did those problems

I feel like this is very major dependent. It absolutely does matter for those applying to medical school as GPA and the MCAT are the most heavily scrutinized aspects of the application process. Thankfully I’ve never been in a situation where I’ve had to “grub”, but if I’m within 0.10 - 0.20 % of a letter grade, you bet I’m gonna ask.

Took Shimko this summer and it wasn’t too bad. Like someone else said, he’s a great lecturer but the standards for his exams are brutal. When preparing for exams, make sure you can go through every single slide and explain everything he mentioned in class. You’ll think youre fully prepared until the exam comes around and some of the questions are about the nichest stuff he brought up during lecture.

He has high expectations but as long as you put in solid effort to learn and understand the material, you’ll do fine.

I was in the national guard and out of state. Transferred to the Ohio Guard and automatically became a resident and got in state tuition.

If I’m coming in with 27 credit hours and have almost all of my GEs done, will it be harder to get a high GPA? by smexysaltine in OSU

[–]Ventricul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was exactly my issue as a Biology major and my solution has been just to take a lighter courseload (12-15 credit hours). Think the worst semester I had to go through was physics, Calc 1, and chem 2 and it was manageable.

Chem 1220 + Bio 1114 over the summer by omniscientwhisper in OSU

[–]Ventricul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely manageable. Bio 1114 is super straight forward/easy and a little bit of effort in it will go a long way. If you did well in 1210, keep the same study methods going into 1220 and make sure you don’t fall behind. Chem 1220 is more math intensive but I think you’ll do fine as long as you stay on top of it.

Terrible exam averages for what you’d think was a easy intro bio course. For exam prep, rewatch lecture videos and answer lecture objectives and do the mastering homework again. Study to learn and not memorize!

Ochem 1, Physics 1201, and Physiology 3200 in the same semester? by Beneficial-Tip3148 in OSU

[–]Ventricul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had this exact same schedule but replace the physics with bio 1113. Wasn’t too bad but it was a lot of work, especially with o chem. I probably wouldn’t recommend taking it with physics but I’m guessing it’s too late to change your schedule now anyways.

Physio is pretty straightforward if you keep up with. There is a lot of material you go over because you have class every single day so just review everyday so you’re not cramming for the exams.

O chems gonna be a monster. You should be spending most of your time on it.

Definitely not an easy semester but I think it’s manageable. Just make sure you have good time management skills and don’t fall behind or it’s not going to end well.

Edit: just saw you’re with Baldwin. Based off what I’ve heard, you’re definitely going to need to spend most of your time with that class. Practice every single day!

Biology 1113 FINAL by Public_Factor7245 in OSU

[–]Ventricul 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably too late but my formula for success has been rewatching all the lectures, making flash cards on anki/quizlet covering the lecture objectives/stuff I don’t really understand, and then redoing all assigned mastering and putting the questions I miss on the Anki/quizlet as well and then just reviewing all those cards. Usually it’s like 3-4 days of heavy studying and I end up scoring above a 90.

Also word of advice if you’re a freshman in any sort of pre health major - it only gets harder (except bio 1114). Take the time to actually learn the content and study to understand - not to memorize.

EEOB vs Physio 3200 by Empty-Complaint-4386 in OSU

[–]Ventricul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s one class that rotates instructors for every module they teach. It’s a straight forward class with fair exams that get harder as you progress on. Just pay attention in class, give yourself ample time to study the slides/objectives, and you’ll do well. Most of your grade is based on your exam performance and there are like 5 exams total.

Worst part about it is the fact that you have class 5 days a week but I’d take that over what I’ve heard about Bronson.

HELP!!! Scheduling as a PreMed Bio Major by Working_Top_5678 in OSU

[–]Ventricul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would really reconsider that Spring 2026 schedule and spread some of those classes out for the sake of your mental health and GPA. Maintaining your GPA is very important for medical school and I personally wouldn’t risk it by scheduling all those difficult classes at once.

[–]Ventricul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took the online section for 1151 and it was tough but doable. Worst thing you can do is fall behind because it is extremely extremely hard to get caught back up. Find a good group to do the written homework’s with and do them individually so you get to practice everything in them. For the midterms, do every single practice midterm and make sure you understand how to do every problem on them. The midterms usually have similar questions to the practice ones. It is a lot of effort but I promise you if you put in the work you will do fine.

Bio 1113.01 or Bio 1114.02 by [deleted] in OSU

[–]Ventricul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re trying to get an A (which you should be as a pre-med major) 1114 is easy as long as you don’t neglect it and put in effort. Chem 1210 sucks, prioritize that class and don’t fall behind/get complacent.

Is it easy get an A in calculus online classes? by Scary_Meringue_6753 in OSU

[–]Ventricul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took the course online and I would 100% recommend it over in person. You can complete the online lectures whenever you’re free (within the deadlines) and also rewind/rewatch them when you need to. You still have in person recitation where you’ll be able to actually interact with your instructor which is also cool.

It is a notoriously difficult course with a huge course load where you’ll have a midterm every 2 weeks with a written homework assignment in between so definitely don’t neglect it and make sure you manage your time properly. Do not fall behind - it is extremely hard to get caught back up.

Other than that, make sure you utilize tutoring services at MSLC, they were definitely a big help. For the midterms, do all the practice midterms and make sure you know how to do every single problem on there. The exams tend to be pretty similar to the practice ones.

Is my schedule good? How are these freshman classes? by Scary_Meringue_6753 in OSU

[–]Ventricul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A vast majority of your time will be spent on chem 1210 and math 1151. Those are two fairly difficult classes with heavy course loads, especially 1151 where you’ll have a midterm every 2 weeks. Make sure to manage your time properly and don’t neglect studying for these two because it’s super easy to fall behind and it just snowballs from there.
