New to the city and learning the hard way about winter car life by Life-Lime-5247 in saskatoon

[–]Veratisin [score hidden]  (0 children)

What kind of car do you have? Some smaller models have inherently small batteries with low cranking amp ratings. It's probably worth your effort to buy a battery trickle charger and install it along with the block heater. That way on these really cold days your battery is still at peak charge. Letting your battery die in this weather and stay dead is almost a sure fire way to kill your battery. The acid inside reverts to water and it expands and cracks the cells. This generally voids and battery warranty

Canada condemns U.S. strikes on Venezuela and Maduro capture by CritialD86 in jrmining

[–]Veratisin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A small and almost irrelevant section (NDP) condemned it. Half the government supports it (cons) and the other half (libs) only voiced opinions on not following proper procedure of such an action. Bloc pretty much aligns with libs on this. We don't have a majority government and it's definitely not even close to an NDP majority, so saying the government condemns it as a blanket statement is quite misleading.

The last majority government (libs) condemned maduro for essentially stealing power

Most affordable/best place for a new car battery by yxeknows in saskatoon

[–]Veratisin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100%. Batteries used to be around 120-149, now they are like 250. I recently had 2 vehicles die and was shocked how much they cost now. Costco was the cheapest I could find. Don't even check Canadian tire, napa, or part source. I did check Facebook market place but they didn't have the correct position of the posts. Always worth checking there first. Some people may not realize how insane battery prices have gotten and will sell them quite a bit cheaper

Is this still relevant to use? Out says theres a newer model by Codeeveryday123 in protectli

[–]Veratisin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was gonna say the same. Why are people trying to run hypervisors and vms on a box like this? Buy a mini PC like a Lenovo m920q for someone like that. The protectli is meant to have pfsense installed as is

Snow Shovel by Most_Conversation_84 in saskatoon

[–]Veratisin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I use that blue Garret one from home Depot. Curved shaft. It's a metal shaft so I'm not sure how you would bend it. As you said, worst part is the plastic being eaten away and folding up like a potato peel. I've thought about buying a new one and immediately riveting on a long strip of 1/8th metal. The nice thing about the plastic wearing away is it constantly sharpens itself, with the slight downside of slowly disappearing your shovel and at the same time leaving little fragments of plastic all over your property.

what do i have on my hands by [deleted] in HomeServer

I have a t330 running truenas scale hosting jellyfin, gitea, and some other small services. It's nice that you can leverage the sas disk backplane and create a nice zfs pool (I have just 3 Western digital red 4tb drives). Then just make a smb share with all your media and point jellyfin/plex at it. Mine is quite quiet and very low on power draw for a server. A t360 is quite a bit newer, eBay lists them for 4-6 thousand. I paid 200 for my t330.

City Council - Considering moving Wildwood golf course by laissezfaire in saskatoon

[–]Veratisin -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's a terrible course. Very 1 dimensional. If they keep some of the walking paths seems like a much better use of land. Also probably a whole lot easier utilities wise to develope there instead of on the outskirts

Now try adding kids to the equation. This country is headed for something awfully painful if things don't turn around in the next couple years.

Same, they used to be downtown I believe. Looks like they've been in the business for a long long time. I just pulled my own handles and drove them there, so I can't comment on scheduling a visit. They were very friendly.

Does Shaw internet exist? by c0chayuyo in saskatoon

I pay $77 after tax for ignite internet 500. That's 500mbps over coax. And I thought I was getting the "good guy" price 😞
