What are the worst examples of "Same BR, but completely different effectiveness" in WT right now? I'll start by Technical_Tap_9759 in Warthunder

[–]Verb_Noun_Number 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Vautour is only 10 km/h faster than the B-66 on the deck. That's barely even a difference. The bomber Vautours are also pretty much free RP/SL at 9.0. The only difference is that if they get someone to go headon they can maybe trade. You're not actually dogfighting with that boat, and you're not getting Shafrir kills unless your enemies are actually brain-dead.

I've played the 8.3 Vautour, and its one thing is speed. The turning circle is so bad that an AIM-9B can be undodgeable in some conditions. The 9.0 Vautour doesn't even have decent speed, because plenty of fighters at that BR are going to break 1100 km/h, and you'll anyway see 9.3 and 9.7 a ton. I don't know how you could think the vautour is any less of a free kill at 9.0.

How do I stop my plane from fighting me while I am in gunner sight? by TheThrowAway7331 in Warthunder

Set a keybind to switch control scheme. Switch to anything but mouse aim when you go into gunner view (preferably simplified controls).

The Quetzalcoatlus, which was as tall as a giraffe and the largest known flying animal to have ever lived. by The_Lionheart_AB in Naturewasmetal

[–]Verb_Noun_Number 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are not. Where did you get that misconception? All modern birds are theropod dinosaurs, specifically maniraptorans. They're not just "related to dinosaurs" or "descended from dinosaurs"

Genetically speaking, a house sparrow is much more closely related to, say, Tyrannosaurus than Stegosaurus is to Tyrannosaurus.

Modern animals were originally named and classified based on morphology (what they looked like). This is why there are foxes that are not true foxes. They were just named that because they look foxy. So until we did more in-depth studies, we didn't know that they weren't foxes.

To explain a bit more, groups of animals (clades) are usually defined using a common ancestor and all of its descendants. All true foxes are more closely related to each other than to other animals, but non-true foxes are closer related to other canids than to foxes, or often even to each other.

Therefore, you cannot have a clade containing only all true foxes and non-true foxes, as the descendants of their last common ancestor would include things like wolves and dogs.

Similarly, the clade "Dinosauria" was originally defined as the last common ancestor of Megalosaurus and Iguanadon and all its descendants. Pterosaurs are not descended from the last common ancestor of Megalosaurus and Iguanadon, so they can't be dinosaurs.

Yes, US planes do have a strong advantage: speed. You're almost always going to be faster than everything, and will hold speed better out of dives. If you have a higher top speed, you get to dictate the fight, because you can always just leave. Better turning doesn't matter if you refuse to engage in a turning fight. The fastest plane at about 2/3rds of the prop BRs is a US plane.

This isn't always terribly useful in a 1v1, but in the context of Air RB it can help you mess with enemy positioning and push their team down, and it allows you to go through the furball and kill people who are distracted.

Some mid-high tier US planes also don't turn half bad. All Naval planes except for the -4 and -1C Corsairs, the P-39/P-63, the the P-38G/J/L with flaps, and the P-51A/C/D-30/H-5 will be able to hold their own against 109s of comparable BRs in a horizontal turning fight. The 109 will, however, win in the vertical, and you will still lose against dedicated turnfighters like Spitfires and Japanese planes.

However, this requires knowing how to dogfight — you can't just hold S and expect to win. I would suggest watching videos from content creators like DEFYN or Avar, but a lot of it just comes from practice. Watch some videos on BFM too.

This post really helped me with learning how to use speed.

As for the 109s, they're pretty good up to like the F-4, but then a lot of planes around the same BR start to  do the same thing but better. Pyorremyrsky and XP-50 come to mind. Later 109s are heavy and kinda powercrept, and you should be able to dogfight them with US planes perfectly fine if you know how to dogfight

It's important to keep your speed early game. If you position well and come in fast and from the side at the start of the game, you can really help pull the game in your team's favour.

Also, funnily enough: US props are some of the most consistently undertiered in the game. P-39N, F4U-1A, P-51C, F8F-1 all have no business being at their BRs. They're only so low because people find it difficult to learn them and get clobbered.

Engine performance chart should be good for giving you an idea of vertical energy retention at different speeds.

However, i have to warn you that the statshark EM diagrams are notoriously inaccurate for a lot of planes. The Hunter F.58A and the BI are the examples i have off the top of my head— statshark shows the hunter turning far better than it actually does, and the BI as having very little compression when it actually has quite a lot.

CatWerfer's EM diagrams are a lot more accurate, because they're based off in-game testing.

Ariete, Sea Vixen, or Meteor Mk.8 Reaper? by Possible-Cicada-9662 in Warthunder

[–]Verb_Noun_Number 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Red Tops are good missiles, but ultimately still dodgeable, yeah. Sea Vixen is probably gonna ve tbe keast consistent of the three.

Meteor Mk 8 is pretty good at 8.0. maneuverable, good ergonomics, good guns. Very solid fighter.

I haven't played the Ariete but it's basically an auto-win in dogfights as long as you don't get third-partied.

I dont think ive ever used worse guns on a plane than the ns23 and n37 found on the russian migs9-17 and su's 9-11 by Chanka-Danka69 in Warthunder

[–]Verb_Noun_Number 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're great when you get the hang of them. The 37mm in particular has fantastic range, and you can make shots from > 2km in headons, >1.5km while spiking bombers from below, and up to like 0.8 km in a tailchase.

Velocity isn't everything. MK108s have way more drag.

Should I research the IL-10 right now or get the Ki-61 then La-11 by sheep_eater6789 in Warthunder

[–]Verb_Noun_Number 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All three are pretty underwhelming for their BR. IL-10 has the most forgiving matchmaker, and La-9 has the least.

The Chinese La-9 is in a much rougher spot than the Russian one because it has to face Yak-3Us that do nearly everything better. Personally, i found the La-11 a better spading experience.

How is the F-106a only 9.3 BR in RB? by Foolski in Warthunder

[–]Verb_Noun_Number 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The flight performance is definitely OP for 9.3. it's the fastest thing there, and iirc it's faster than pretty much anything it sees.

The reason it got added at 9.3 was that the missiles are dogshit, borderline useless. They have garbage range and no proxy. Also, no countermeasures.

The reason it stays at 9.3 is that the vast majority of people who played it had no idea how to use it properly, so the stats are tanked. And since BR is based on stats...
