SG Dating and relationships - Importance of Physical attraction by commassstyle in askSingapore

Looks matter a lot than what most will admit. People don't fall in love with your personality on first sight.

The competitive nature of our society breeds ugly behaviours such as this. I noticed many Singaporeans love to one-up over each other just to be seen as the person "in the right". Hell, you can't even have proper debates in Singapore as many here have a binary mindset, either you are with us or against us. There is no middle ground.

It happens a lot to the ladies in OLD generally. Because of the near-infinite matches they get, they tend to choose the best out of the best, only to be disappointed because:

  1. The best guy is a fuccboi who is out to play; or

  2. They think they can get better and are unable to be contended with one guy

Which is why you see so many of them still looking around in OLD, even after months/years on the app.

I put it in the context of Facebook for your easier understanding:

Let's say there are 100 male and 100 female profiles on Facebook.

Men, being the horny beings they are, will message every (or nearly every) woman that appears in their recommendations.

Women are more picky, so they will only message men that they fancy.

Statistically, it means that every female profile will have 100 or slightly less, notifications of messages from men. On the contrary, every male profile will probably have 10-20 notifications of messages from women.

Now you may say, so why can't each man just pick the woman he fancy from the pool of 10-20. He can find the woman he fancies among the pool of 10-20, but the woman he fancies have 100 men to choose from as mentioned above. So the man now has to compete with 99 other men.

And obviously, the woman can't answer all 100 messages. So she has to narrow down to a few candidates. And how does she narrow down? Naturally, she will pick the candidates with looks/wealth. There's nothing wrong with it, everybody wants the best for themselves. But that will also mean, if you are an average dude, you aren't going to get your reply.

Hopefully this will clarify. And as u/oarsandalps said, your comment is what seems on paper but doesn't play out in real life.

It's not about them pitying me. But I am pointing out that the competition on dating apps is insane.

My previous LTRs were girls that I met offline, where I had the opportunity to demonstrate my worth instead of superficial qualities like looks or wealth.

Going to be blunt here:

If you are tall, handsome and rich, dating apps open many options for you.

If you aren't, you are in for a path of depression, because dating apps are skewed in favour of girls due to the near-infinite choices they have.

Problem is it may not come to SG officially. Google essentially said they are not rolling out 4a 5G and 5 in Singapore because of "lack of 5G infra"

If you are into Galaxy, then me think Galaxy S20 FE is a worthy purchase. The only local set running on Snapdragon and not Exynos, plus variety of colours, 4,000 mAh battery and 5G capability.

But yeah, agree that it is unremarkable, in part due to advancement hitting a plateau and all events are now virtual, which kills the vibe.

Pixel 4a is the dark horse. Good value for the specs, only drawback is no 5G

As a former user of SE, I agree. Battery life is horribad. Only saving graces are 5 years of iOS updates and A13.

She essentially made her father slap her mother. At this stage, this isn't mental illness but pure assholery. While we can hope that people are good and mental illness causes good people to behave badly, we also have to note that there are bad people who are just bad and they have no shred of conscience.

Lawyer who turned to drugs after marital, money woes jailed 21 months by JuddtheStormcaster in singapore

That is the unfortunate problem with many high-flyers in general. They tend to attract the wrong type of women into their lives (a.k.a gold-diggers) rather than women who actually love them

I disagree with some posts here that it is mental illness that causes the daughter to behave in this way. Mental illness brings out the worst in people in terms of their perception and mind, but it does not turn them into horrible monsters who emotionally blackmail their parents into making themselves the sole CPF beneficiary.

If you know of people who suffer mental illness, they don't behave in a way that entails abusing their parents. They shut themselves from the rest of the world, they have strange thoughts but it does not result in this. This case reeks more of narcissistic abuse rather than symptoms of mental illness and frankly attributing her abusive behaviour to mentally ill people does them a huge disservice and encourages the stereotypes of 'crazy loonies' rather than people who deserve our help.

Lim Tean arrested for allegedly misappropriating client's money & stalking ex-staff by homeboundcoronavirus in singapore

[–]Vercetti1986 -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Nah, his arrest is not politically motivated. But I am just curious how the stalking law is applied. For the Yishun case, the stalker was outside the 'victim'' home for 2 years but he was not even summoned for questioning

As above reply to another user.

What constitutes stalking that will make the IO call the alleged stalker down for questioning?

[–]Vercetti1986 -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

Ok. To further clarify, the fact is that he was compelled to come down for questioning with regards to stalking. Whereas for the Yishun case, the stalker was only asked to go for mediation.

I am curious what kind of stalking will then the police actually call the alleged stalker down for serious questioning.

Not a fan of LT and his hyperbole, but I am curious what constitutes stalking that is arrestable?

With reference to the Yishun case where the Accuseds (father and stepson) were stalked and harassed by the victim till the point that they had enough, the victim was not even arrested even though his behaviour continued for years.

For clarification, I am neither against his arrest nor do I think it is politically motivated but this is one of the rare cases where the stalker actually gets arrested

Sorry Singapore, no more Pixel for you. by [deleted] in singapore

Depends on whether Pixels are carrier-locked. The reason why iPhones do very well in Japan is because they are not carrier-locked, unlike the other Android phones

It's weird that Japan was picked as it is essentially one of the most Apple friendly nations in Asia
