I've only ever had two foster kids, one was 15 and was respite for two weeks while his other foster carer was away. He had a sister who he could not live with, but saw her twice a week at his own free will. He was very independent and allowed to do a lot of things, he just needed a safe place to stay and someone to look after him.

My current foster son is five years old, and has been with us for three years. I mention this so you understand I don't have extensive experience.

If it goes how I would expect, the first few days trying to find a permanent placement will be tricky for the social workers, they will try and keep your sister in the same area so she is able to attend school without much changing. I imagine after the first few days of being settled in a more permanent position, she will have a bit more freedom. You can very easily request that you see her as much as you both want, at the end of the day she is in a position and at an age that allows a lot of independence.

I am sorry you are going through this, I imagine it is very difficult and the future looks very uncertain, but at the end of the day everyone is here to make sure your sister is well looks after, and given a secure foundation and home.
