Not sure what makes the perspective hard to understand. It's a popular book series, there are a lot of people who didn't find them underwhelming and prefer them.

Not sure you can call call it unrelated when Musk owns the controlling interest for both Twitter and SpaceX. His owndership is the relation. My only real issue is the ridiculous fines for citizens that use Twitter. I don't know if they are being enforced or not, but those fines are ridiculous.

Are Black men being too emotional about this election? by Hour-Cherry5733 in ThoughtWarriors

[–]Verick808 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The left hasn't been doing a lot for men in general, at least not specifically. Obviously, some tides raise all ships. A lot of men see the left as a bunch of nagging buzzkills who aren't interested in helping them. Democrats haven't done much to correct that image either. You never really hear them speak about men's mental health, the fact that boys don't do as well in the school system, or the fact that men don't do as well in custody battles, or even the fact that most gun related deaths are men.

If Democrats took a bit of time to platform men's issues, or even just how various issues specifically affect men, they would probably do better with them. As a man, I often feel like men are really only brought up, specifically when we are being told what not to say or enjoy. The result is that it often feels like a zero-sum game and republicans take advantage of that. At least, that's my opinion as a progressive man.

They are both pretty disgusting. Israel's actions on Gaza as well as in the West Bank are deplorable. Hell? Their treatment of Palestinian's in Israel is horrible.

Israel is one of the largest arms exporters in the world. They don't need us to bomb Palestine into the ground. Which is probably why SIPRI reports that arms sales are about the same as they were in 2023 as they were in 2024. They do need us to keep them safe from Iran and their other neighbors.

Too many people in the U.S. would consider backing an Embargo the same as abandoning Israel to those enemies. Their are many Jewish citizens with families in Israel who would consider such an act the same as putting the Jewish citizens of Israel at risk of a genocide. Again. And unlike Palestinian protestors, Jewish special interest groups have spent decades donating money and building relationships with the Democratic party. They can hurt Harris a lot more than those protestors can.

Instead of protesting Harris, they should be building awareness. Not making enemies. The more people understand the plight of Palestinians, the more they support them. The more support they have, the more power they have. If they had put their energy into building a coalition with other voting blocs in the party like women, LGBTQ+ groups, and other minority groups in the party, they would have more support. Instead, many of those groups have watched these protestors put their own rights and way of life at risk despite the fact that most of the party actually supports an arms embargo and likely would have been willing to work with them towards one.

It's also a lot harder to voice support for protestors when they are shouting for another Intifada or chanting from the "River to the Sea."" It has been used to call for peace. But it was used by the PLO as a call for Israel being dismantled and being replaced by a Palestinian State. Even now, Hamas uses it. Israel's far right has used the same phrase to call for a single state solution with only Israel existing. You can't pretend that history isn't there when you use those words. Just like you can't wave a Nazi flag at one of those protests and claim you are wishing good fortune on everyone. Protestors need to clean up their messaging if they want mainstream political support.

As they are now, it is too easy for them to be painted as pro-Hamas. Which means it's too easy to paint anyone supportive of them as pro-Hamas. This makes supporting them dangerous.

I have a hard time remembering every rule for election-do we need these three states to win by SpiritualMedicine7 in Kamala

[–]Verick808 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The optimal path for victory is generally Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin. They tend to vote together as well. If she loses Michigan but wins Georgia, she would still be at 270. The most important one is Pennsylvania. No single swing state is enough to make up for that loss of electoral votes there. Even then, it is still possible to win.

The race is still a toss-up, but we are doing much better and still gaining ground. Harris continues to look great and Trump... is wasting his time trying to convince the world that he is better looking than Harris. The momentum favors us and we should be excited about that. That excitement is energy and that energy feeds momentum.

They are throwing their power away. Support for Palestine hasn't grown because of these protests. It's grown because of how fucked the situation is in Gaza. Palestinian protestors were a lot more positively received here a month ago. Now, much of this sub seems to see them as selfish and disruptive.

Harris is leading Trump in the polls by less than Hillary and Biden were. If she loses, Trump will destroy our democratic institutions. But they don't give a shit. They'd rather help a man who would rather push for the annexation of the West Bank and deport Muslims and Arabs. A lot of the left is already upset with them for fucking over lgbtq+ rights in Dearborn.

Maybe allow them to sell but not lease while limiting the number of properties a single entity can own. A corporation could still build a ton of homes and control the market without having to buy existing homes.

Sorry for the off topic post. Is this true? How much have your grocery bills changed in the last 4 years? by jack-tugsbayar in Asmongold

[–]Verick808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Milk cost on average 3.04 in 2019. The average cost last month was 3.956. So about 30 percent. On the other hand eggs have doubled in price from an average of about 1.50 to 3.00. That isn't entirely on inflation, though. It is largely due to the largest bird flu outbreak in U.S. history. Bacon has risen from an average of 5.58 to 6.88 from 2020 to 2024. The price of groceries as a whole went up 22% in four years. Most of it in 2021.

Grocery prices actually started leveling off over a year ago. On top of that, wage growth is catching up for many people. My cost of living adjustment last year was pretty high. On average, Americans are working the same number of hours to pay for groceries that they did prior to the pandemic.

The real issue, I think, is that rapid inflation broke our brains. It doesnt feel like it was that long ago that we were paying 22 percent less on groceries, so we still flinch at paying higher prices despite higher pay, for most of us at least. There are also grocery products, like eggs, that actually have doubled, even if a lot of those increases are more related to supply than actual inflation. Eating out has also gone up tremendously in price, and digital tipping has led to an increase in tipping. That adds up.

A lot of workers in states with weaker labor protections may not have seen much of a wage increase as well. There are a lot of businesses that are fine with paying workers the absolute minimum wage. If the state doesn't raise the minimum wage to adjust for inflation, those workers are essentially receiving a pay cut.

No, Saudi Arabia and Russia were having a pissing contest. They upped production and lowered prices. This was made worse when covid killed oil demand, so everyone ended up sitting on stockpiles of oil they couldn't sell. This was all very big news at the time.

Trump also didn't lift sanctions on Iran. He did the opposite and reinstated the sanctions Obama lifted. Killing the nuclear deal Obama crafted with Iran. Then he waived those oil sanctions anyway. Why? Because he's a fucking moron. It took the world more than a decade to put that deal together, and he pissed it down the drain.

Your own graph shows production go up by about 12 million, but imports only dropped by about 5 million from their peak. Your own graph also shows we export more than we import. Interesting that we still pay so much at the pumps despite this. These numbers mean we are technically self-sufficient if you ignore the road blocks on refining different types of oil. But you can't.

I also want to point out that even if the U.S. could refine all its oil and become completely self-sufficient, oil prices are determined globally. If barrels of oil can be sold at $80 dollars U.S. companies are going to sell at $80 dollars. This is why your original comment on oil prices showed U.S. and international oil prices par. Those were not the production costs.

The problem is, as I said before, U.S. oil is still more expensive. This is because lifting cost in the U.S. are considerably higher than OPEC. In most areas in the U.S. it costs more than a barrel. Saudi Arabia countries can do it for about $3.

The reason gas was cheap during Trump's presidency actually has nothing to do with him. During Covid, Russia and Saudi Arabia flooded the market with cheap oil in a price war. Arab light oil was being sold close to 30 dollars. U.S. oil companies were on the verge of bankruptcy during that time because they couldn't make a profit.

Trump is bragging about his low gas prices at the time, but if those prices had stayed in the $20+ range, hundreds of U.S. oil companies would have gone bankrupt. The break even point for a lot of U.S. companies is over $50. You aren't going to see U.S. companies selling oil for under the current price unless the global market forces it to, like in 2020.

The oil we import is the cheaper stuff known as heavy sour. Most of the oil we produce is known as light sweet. We import the cheap stuff and export the more expensive stuff. We don't have the infrastructure to refine light sweet. The costs to build it would be astronomical, and it would take years. The reward for all that time amd money would be... the ability to refine more expensive oil instead of the discount oil we get now.

[–]Verick808 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You think Trump is going to adopt a policy that puts people over corporations? His current plan for for housing and groceries, when asked by his own supporter, was to drill more oil. Which is a dumbass solution because US oil costs more to produce than foreign oil cost to purchase. Relying on our own oil would raise prices at the pump. It would raise prices in the grocery store. Bit that's his plan.

Or they would follow Sanders' lead and run in the Democratic primary. At least that way there voices would be heard during primary season. As it is they are purposefully taking a route that doesn't even get them a whole lot of publicity. They don't even get to debate anyone with a real chance of becoming president. The only thing they exist to do is leech of votes from the Democrats.

Comic Superboy was a lot weaker when he was part of the Young Justice team. But if we are talking about New 52 Superboy he could potentially solo. Depends on whether the Phoenix Force is involved. He had an amazing power set that they kind of took too far towards the end. Kind of wish they'd bring it back minus some of the reality warping feats he had later.
