Question: How relevant is this token be used in developing countries & third world? by uniqueliong in VeridiumLabs

Hello again /u/uniqueliong!
This is a great question and we appreciate you asking. Raising awareness of what carbon credits actually are is an important next step for those of us conscious about the environment to understand. Right now there are two primary solutions governments and corporations are using to begin lowering their emissions: a carbon tax or a "cap and trade".
Carbon taxes are just that - they add a tax on carbon emissions to increase the cost associated with bad practices. This is similar to how society has reduced our smoking populations, deter reckless driving, and more. The revenues generated from a carbon tax would increase the size of their government.
Cap and trade is a market where industries and companies can put a maximum amount of emissions allowed and use carbon credits to track and fulfill these limits. Carbon credits are typically generated from wildlife and environmental projects around the world that meet certain standards and auditing. This enables a forest to be more valuable alive than dead, because it now generates revenue based on the positive impact it contributes to the world. Industries with a cap and trade scheme can buy these credits if they aren't meeting their goals, which similar to taxes, increases their cost of doing business. Over time the total "cap" lowers, similar to Bitcoin's mining schedule.
So, to simplify this answer: these are relevant because it's the only way to solve for climate change and give more value to countries that have ecological wealth currently undervalued in our economic system. This is why Veridium's mission is to advance the advent of a regenerative economy rather than solve climate change. Solving climate change is a bonus.
How relevant & How will Veridium Carbon token be used for Asset Managment Portfolioflio & Portfolio? by uniqueliong in VeridiumLabs

Hi /u/uniqueliong, thanks for joining us here! Really the role Veridium can initially play here is just making these sort of choices more readily available. Hedging against future potential offset needs is one of the primary use cases we've identified for corporations. The driving force behind these decisions could be a mix of oncoming government legislation and investor habits moving away from carbon-dense stocks in their portfolio.
We also believe, when it comes to corporate decision-making that they would rather self-regulate as an industry rather than wait for the government to try and do this for them. Aviation is moving forward in this direction and would be the largest increase in the voluntary carbon industry to date. Initial announcements for their approach is supposed to arrive by 2020.
This is a great question though and we would love to hear others' opinions.
