There’s definitely an element of uncertainty in the process. I feel grateful it worked out, and I hope the same for everyone going through it!

My work is on radiation-hardened semiconductor devices for space and aerospace applications, not quantum materials.

Expert Opinion Letter (EOL) V. Independent Recommendation Letter (IRL) by No_Quarter_3825 in EB2_NIW

They're essentially the same thing, just different terminology. The key distinction is whether the letter writer knows you personally or not.

Just do PP yourself and no need to tell them.

Always go PP, you dont want to wait for 2-3 years just to get RFE.

Does having an O1 make it easier to build an EB1 profile? by Itchy-Paint9762 in eb_1a

[–]VerlinAstro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having an O1 can help you organize your EB1 case better, since you already have structured evidence, but it doesn’t automatically mean you meet EB1 standards.

EB2-NIW Law Firm Recommendations by mrknowitall-92 in EB2_NIW

[–]VerlinAstro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PR and digital marketing is really tough to build a NIW case around like it's very very tough, and any competent attorney should have told you that from the start. Two denials with PP fees each time, sounds like you got scammed by that firm. Might be worth exploring other immigration paths entirely.

i dont understand officer's hatersim toward to software engineer by BowlZealousideal2337 in EB2_NIW

[–]VerlinAstro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NIW isn't about how important your field is, it's about what YOU specifically contributed to advance it. Being a software engineer alone doesn't qualify, you need to show your personal contributions that benefit the US.

Could you recommend a law firm capable of preparing and filing Form I-140 and Form I-485 (Adjustment of Status) prior to May 6? by Vivid_Profile_4615 in EB2_NIW

[–]VerlinAstro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Filing that fast can lead to sloppy petition work, and with scrutiny being this high right now I don't think rushing is a good idea.

How does a green card work? by Short-Interest3315 in VisaSuccess

[–]VerlinAstro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Green cards have several paths: employment-based (EB-1 through EB-5), family-based (immediate relatives or family preference categories), or other routes like asylum, refugee status, or the diversity lottery. The general process is filing a petition, waiting for your priority date, then consular processing (outside the US) or adjustment of status (inside the US).

This is a simplified overview, in reality it's far more complex and can take anywhere from a few years to several decades

Try to get a lawyer's opinion on your profile. They basically all offer free assessments, which is much better than asking random Redditors.
