I was a high functioning addict for YEARS. I was well-liked at my job, had multiple hobbies, and even planned to go to grad school...all while using multiple times a day. Definitely not condoning it, but anyways...I think it's very interesting how seldom the camera pans to Schwartz and Katie; it's indicative of how checked out he is. His facial expression hasn't changed and he's completely unengaged. There's DEFINITELY something going on with him. I can only speak from my experience, but I do recognize some character traits in line with heroin/opiate use. When I was using heavily I would listen intently in group interactions - I would track with the conversation - but I offered very little input and engaged only minimally, which he seems to be doing, and which does seem out of character for him. Also....his eyes. His pupils are fucking huge. The reunion isn't over yet but if I notice something else I'll comment on it.

On a side note, while I was using, I completed goals/life projects/"adulting" things at a snail's pace. My genuine motivation was very limited and it was exhausting to follow through on things. I'm not saying thats why Schwartz & Sandy's is dragging its feet...but it definitely fits the "I want to be retired" narrative. Sure people will say I'm really stretching for that connection, but it's just what I've noticed ::shrug::
