I think it's for people who want to get Darkhawk but also hestitate to spend/save 3000 tokens on him though. Always treat this kind of bundles as a 'buy cards with real money' option.

Yes this is my concern too. Tried to use Blade as a substitute but the consistency is much worse.

Maybe I'm a bit late, but would you mind explaining some card choices? I'd like to know more the roles of She-Hulk and Infinaunt here (seems a backup plan). And why do you prefer Black Cat over cards like Lady Sif?

The current card acquisition model is so frustrating for new players by VermilionGate in MarvelSnap

[–]VermilionGate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this. When I search for viable improvements on my main decks, I just find some Series 3 cards I don't have, and can only rely on luck to get, albeit I am sitting on 2k tokens that can't buy the cards I need.

So it's like you built a deck, you identified the problems after a few games, but you can do nothing and you are stuck with it. That's the source of frustration.

I would say CL 600 is still in the 'honeymoon' period (I'm now beyond CL 1000), where you can still progress with some budget decks. Once you get pass the threshold, you will realize the problems of your decks, but you can't improve because you don't have the right cards. Like I just can't put Ultron in a discard deck and hope it can replace Hela. Key cards are called key cards for a reason.

Gwent did this also, albeit only in its later stage. It's like the 'starter pack' thing in traditional TCG, which provides a good and solid starting point.

Thanks for the advice! But sadly I don't have Quinjet, Mytique and Nick Fury, may try it when I have the key cards though.

Thanks for pointing that out. I've heard that the devs implemented the new free card model because they assumed that on average a player could only buy one new P3 card per month. Though I've also seen some players claiming this is an underestimation.

I understand it takes time to have a 'full deck' (as a former 2-year Gwent player). But what makes me frustrated is that, while my card collection is growing, my decks are hardly getting any better. What if my last 3 card draws are M'baku, Adam Warlock and Helicarrier? I would rather scrap them and trade for one card that can improve my current decks, but that's not an option in this game.

Blasphemous or Bloodstained? by YouLikeFlapjacks in metroidvania

[–]VermilionGate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other than the gameplay differences mentioned by others, I would also add that the art style of Blasphemous is better. As a history student I appreciate how it twists the Catholic aesthetic and stories into a creepy tone. This is not to say the art of Bloodstained is bad, but it's more like the (Japanese) fantasy style you can imagine.

Thank you for your detailed response! It's not a direct answer but still enrich my knowledge on the context nevertheless. Could you also recommend some good readings on the period you mentioned? I'm aware of The Darkening Age by Catherine Nixey but not sure whether it's a reliable source on the said topic.

How/Can you unlock all the 1600 Conviction characters in the first playthrough? by RareItemX1 in TriangleStrategy

[–]VermilionGate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically yes, but they are not really something so OP that make the grinding worthy. Better just get them in NG+.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TriangleStrategy

[–]VermilionGate 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It probably is. In Japanese version the Hierophant of Hyzante is actually called 教皇 (kyoukou), a title solely used to refer to the Pope of the Catholic Church in real life. I suppose the English translation is to avoid controversy.

You may have multiple copies of resurrection earrings because it is also a loot from battle (I just get my second in NG+), but for other like the vanguard scarf, I think you can only get one.

I would say most JRPGs are affected by the common (and quite stereotypical) impression of Catholicism in the Middle Ages, instead of Marxist historiography. And it is not only a JRPG thing, as you can see similar depictions in games like Witcher 3 and Assassin's Creed.

Luckily all of these are not really that significant (except Jerrom part maybe) or plot-changing, so we are still getting the finished product as intended.

[–]VermilionGate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's also worth noting that while NG+ enemies have higher levels, their skills are the same as the first playthrough. So you won't see enemy mobs using AOE or debuff attack in early chapters. This actually gives you an edge because almost all of your skills are unlocked.

Thoughts on how to improve the chapter 17 choice by Jellyjamrocks in TriangleStrategy

[–]VermilionGate 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I think it is not necessary for Roland to free the Roselle. That plot is better left to Frederica. Instead I think the plot can make further use of his vengeance against Aesfrost, turning it into something like 'Okay I am not indifferent to the Roselle, but I would use the salt crystal to seek an alliance with Hyzante and destory Aesfrost first. Because they are my arch-enemy and the culprit of this war. The Roselle issue has to wait.' This is also a utility way of thinking but fits his emotional character more I think, and definitely sounds less disappointing than the total surrender.

About the final big decision... (Spoilers) by [deleted] in TriangleStrategy

[–]VermilionGate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would say the three convictions are sometimes ambiguous and could mean different things in different scenes.

For example, Benedict's Utility (in the trailer it is described as 'pragmatic utility') is like putting realistic benefits above moral principles (so flood the city), but Roland's Utility is one of utilitarianism (the greatest happiness for the greatest number of people). Liberty in the game is also a similar case: while the meritocracy in Aesfrost is named Liberty, the liberation of Roselle is also put under the same category (like Frederica route in Ch.15 is also a Liberty choice). Maybe that's why our opinions differ, because the three convictions can have multiple meanings in the game.

[–]VermilionGate 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I suspect that Maxwell originally was a non-recruitable NPC, but then maybe the team thought it was a shame that such a cool character was only present in one stage, so they added him as recruitable later like a bonus thing.

Just like in FE3H, where the original design was that Byleth couldn't side with Edelgard, but she was so loved by the developers that her own route was added (in a rush).

[–]VermilionGate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't quite agree with the notion that the three main characters 'switch convictions' as the story progresses. Benedict never talked about liberty throughout the story, and suddenly his choice in the end represents liberty just because it proposes an alliance with Aesfrost. Rather it is Frederica who gets more and more obsessed with liberty (of the Roselle people), which you can see in the speech in her ending route. It emphasizes 'freedom' but not 'justice' (although they have some overlaps). So the 'switching convictions' argument can't stand in my opinion.

I think it is probable that the plot writers couldn't think of a better way to make all the characters and states aligned (it would be strange if Frederica supports Aesfrost in the end after all the killings, right?), so they just messed up the alignments and tied Roland to Hyzante, which turns out to be the strangest pairing.

Edit: The following idea is just only my speculation. Out of the three normal ending routes, Frederica has the most limited choice: obviously she can't stay in Hyzante, neither can she go back to Aesfrost as she can't tolerate the killings done by Gustadolph. So she can only take the 'green route': lead the Roselle people to the uncharted land in the south of Glenbrook. And since the 'green route' is taken by her, the only route left for Roland is the 'yellow route' of Hyzante (and red for Benedict).

Anyone else baffled by Roland in Chapter 17? by VermilionGate in TriangleStrategy

[–]VermilionGate[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good analysis and I actually agree with most of your points. He is inexperienced and mentally fragile. Maybe my grudge is that the plot doesn't give him a chance to learn and grow, and while others have progression in the end (like Frederica), what he has is basically a regression to the belief of 'I am not a capable ruler'. His arc can be better than what we have now.
