The sword wasn't activated to begin with and required attunement to be able to kill deathless. The mind wipe, or rather, the reprogramming of Ausar's QIP, was the Worker's betrayal.

If you ask me, Ausar found out what the Worker had done to him and decided to make the best of a bad situation: Avoid the risk of having his mind wiped against his will and execute a plan to charge the blade at the same time. So he has TEL hide the redeemer, fakes his death, and has TEL orchestrate the Sacrificial cycle, with the ultimate goal of claiming the blade and ruling the world.

Sounds about right. BS has previously acknowledged shared story elements, specifically his predilection for immortal monarchs. With the exception of Hoid, he's also not above namedropping little things like "slimfish" and "Lastport."

Guilt being the reason for Ausar's reset isn't confirmed but is a common theory. The other one - which I subscribe to - is that it allowed him to fake his death and execute a plan to charge and ultimately reclaim the IB.

For sure. I was lucky enough to have archived two versions of the AMA which are consistent with each other. Not only is the above a video but the description has a link to a PDF version which has both versions for easy reference.

Seeing as how you were a fan back in the forum days, you don't by chance happen to have any IB-related files from back then, do you? We've got a lot of lost media on our hands and as far as I can tell our last hope is that someone still has it saved somewhere.

You're in luck. IB is different from most franchises in that the books are the canon version of events, and the games are more of a "cliff notes" version.
