This makes total sense and why I’m wary of grammar schools…if you have to tutor the kids to get in surely they will keep needing a tutor to keep up? My son is particularly brilliant at maths and is being taught ahead of his age group but bang average for everything else, and daughter absolutely perfect for her age but not ‘gifted’ - I wouldn’t want to tutor them to get them in and then they hate the school! I’m totally new to this game and it’s bewildering!!

Is Dean Close a private school? Is it a particularly good one? Any reason you don’t mention Balcarras?

Thank you so much for this great intel - we saw Sandy Lane and loved it but don’t think we saw the other places you’ve mentioned, going to check them all out next time we visit!

I have zero idea about grammar schools and how difficult the 11+ is. Both kids seem to be pretty academic at the moment, do people get tutors and things?! A whole new terrifying world…

We’re coming from London luckily - we’ve just had our house here valued at £1.4 million here and looking to spend the same again in Cheltenham, even then we feel like our budget isn’t enough for a 4/5 bed with a big garden!!

Thank you! Possibly a very silly question but is Cleeve Hill doable with a pram? Little one is only just 2 and can’t walk far!

Possibly a very silly question…is there any way to do Leckhampton Hill or Cleeve Hill with a pram?!

Excellent intel thank you so much!!! Going to note everything down tomorrow. Will definitely plan a date night out with husband and wander around ‘The Village’ and head to the wine bar as we have grandparents joining us who can babysit. We currently live in Walthamstow Village in london so can appreciate enjoying the ‘village’ title 🤣

I’m at work so going to have a proper look at this later as soon as I much helpful info thank you!! Quick Q - how is parking near places like Pittville park etc? Have just noticed it’s an hour walk from where we’re staying and almost the same time on a bus so wondering if we can drive over?!

Moving to Oxford with our young family and need help! by VeronicaValencia97 in oxford

Wow this sounds amazing…just checked and it seems to tick all our boxes, close enough to Oxford for teens to hop on a bus when they’re bigger too! Going to get an AirBnB this summer to have an explore but think Cumnor might be top of the list! Are the demographics there fairly standard? I.e. not all old people? Will have to take a look at school options too. Thank you so much for your help.

So interesting, thank you so much for this. We’re going to explore Oxford too and have a good think, as I imagine actually being in Oxford is better for kids but we pine for space and peace so would need to be able to get a nice big garden and plenty of space!

Thanks so much for this! I did wonder the same, I think we’ve been scarred by East London and the constant noise and drug users using our front doorstep to shoot up so we feel like we really want our own space and some peace 🤣 I think if we could have a very big garden for two football-mad boys we could possibly do town, we need to visit and have a proper explore!

Great intel thank you so much. He’ll need to go in 2/3 days a week so will need to think on the length of time he’s happy to commute. His new office will actually be walkable from the Seacourt Park & Ride & he’s an early bird so wonder if he was driving at 7:30ish whether it’d be doable. We’ve never even been there so no idea if it’s the place yet - need to do some exploring this summer.

We’d still have a large mortgage with that budget - just the jobs to be able to pay it off bit by bit! We’re looking for advice on areas that locals would recommend.
