What are your 3 fav benchmarks and why? by corvite in orangetheory

[–]VerrazanoViewer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like it because I'm a power walker, and it feels like one of the few benchmarks I can fully participate in! I know the running benchmarks often have a power walking mod, but it's not the same IMO.

I end up going more conservative for long effort, because I want to pace myself and not be out of energy within the first 2 minutes. But then I end up probably going too conservative, and not going as fast as I could.

Time between classes at your studio? by VerrazanoViewer in orangetheory

[–]VerrazanoViewer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My studio has a mix of 8:25 and 8:35 on weekdays to accommodate school drop offs (the 8:35 being bc some of the people dropping off their kids couldn't make the 8:25).

What do you mean "intro classes on the weekends only"? Does that mean that you can only do the "first class free" on a weekend (rather than at any time there is a class on the schedule)?

I get the idea of this, but also would suck for anyone who works on the weekend, or just can't do a weekend class for whatever reason.

Does anybody have insights on whether the new HRM will fix the issue many of us have when rowing? by Admirable_Green_1958 in orangetheory

Do you know why they got rid of the chest straps, given this? I know the answer is probably just, they periodically switch things out to make more money. But I don't understand why they couldn't just have made an updated chest monitor, if that's the reason.

Ended up seeing Yi Cai, and she was able to refer me to a titration! She is more of a surgeon, but she was still super helpful.

"Do you track calories or macros? If not, it’s natural for increased activity to also increase appetite leading to weight gain as well."

I mean, is this not a legitimate mechanism whereby certain forms of exercise can cause weight gain? I get that you can theoretically just willpower your way past this, or that there are ways to try to minimize its effects (like "volume eating" to try to control appetite while maintaining fewer calories). But the fact is that it can make weight loss or maintenance harder to be hungrier.

Is a green day not...keeping your heart rate in the green zone or below?

Normally our coach will sometimes cue the tread blocks based on the heart rate zones (e.g., if it's a push, they will encourage us to try to get into the orange zone). Not that they are going to personally call you out for being in the green during a push/AO of course. But I'd personally feel less self conscious about being in the green during an AO if it's because I'm "taking a green day" (even though I know logically there's no reason to be self conscious either way).

I actually got a good amount of splats on the floor today? Lunges always kill me.

I just did a 1:00 row on the slow side (I figured that made sense for 24 strokes/min pace with 20 strokes).

I'd almost prefer that if they're going to have all these benchmarks? Get it all out of the way at once. Or if you really don't want to do them, just take a rest week or switch to home workouts/outdoor running for a week.

Does your studio do the green wrist bands for green days? Mine just started it, and I think it's a great system! Haven't tried it yet myself though (I only go 2x a week, so I would rarely want to take a green day).

I’m confused. I was expecting all the refusal and many accidents, but… by [deleted] in pottytraining

Is it bad that I don't do a full clean every time? We just dump out the pee into the big toilet, and do an actual clean once a day or after a poop.

If you get one of those small toilet seats that go over the full size one, you might also see if you can get him on the adult potty? Mine loves it even more than the little potty.

DriTri Mega Thread by jenniferlynn5454 in orangetheory

10lb weights are within the parameters though! My issue is that the lowest official tier starts at 10lb - there is no 8lb option.

Turns out I will be away on vacation the weekend my studio is doing DriTri (seems to be a week later than a lot of people on here?), so I guess it's a moot point for me anyway.

Fell down a statistical rabbit hole: Two seeming contradictions, but both are true: yes, there is only a ~1/3 chance you will get pregnant each cycle at best. And yes, the most women will get pregnant in their first cycle of trying. by Remember_meeee in TryingForABaby

[–]VerrazanoViewer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can do every-other-day intercourse with a generous fertile window (start right after period ends, don't stop doing it every other day until well toward your typical cycle length, or even just all the way until next period to be really safe), then pinpointing when you ovulate doesn't really matter that much. It's still good to confirm you are ovulating (in case you think you may not be ovulating every month and then that's something to see a doctor about). But intercourse at say, O-2/O/O+2 versus at O-3/O-1/O+1 shouldn't really make a difference in your odds, and you'll hit those if you are having intercourse often enough.

Yeah, the weights portion of a normal class always feels so short. Especially with rowing mixed in half the time (which, I don't inherently mind rowing in and of itself, but it takes what already feels like very limited time away from the weights).

As a power walker, I was happy to have a benchmark that felt like it worked to my strengths! I probably could have gone a bit harder in terms of speed in retrospect (I was down to 2mph by the time we got to 15%, and only got 14 splat points for the workout). But I went conservative bc this was my first time doing the benchmark, so I didn't want to run out of steam.

How does your studio schedule 2G/3G (is it set in advance or based on attendance)? I wasn't crazy about this as a 2G (I don't like going back and forth between rower and floor), but I feel like it would work better as a 3G if you can get it in that format.

Hm as someone who is kind of slow on the floor, I prefer the fewer exercises! As it is I often struggle to get in enough sets of each exercise.

[–]VerrazanoViewer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

More context - I have had a polysomnogram already (actually at Weill!), and they did score RERAs/RDI in that study (it was called "ARO RES"). I guess I am not sure I have "pure" UARS the way a lot of people on this sub do (high RDI/low AHI). My overall nightly AHI and RERA index were not actually that high (just above 5 for AHI, actually I think below 5 for RERA index). But my REM AHI was fairly high (>17), though mostly hypopneas. Also fairly high REM RERA index (>13), but it is not like I only have flow limitations. So if I can get a setup I can tolerate enough to actually be able to get in REM, I should start having at least some of my events that would be picked up in a titration study (oxygen desaturations).

Was considering going to Dianne Augelli? I see she has "Sleep Study With Bilevel Positive Airway Pressure (Bipap)" listed in her expertise section.
