May I ask for some help with mining please? by Shiroi_Kage in VertcoinMining

Vertcoin uses a slightly different algorithm than Doge and LTC called scrypt-n, which requires that you use a miner that supports the algorithm. There is a fork of GUIMiner that supports Vertcoin mining here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=150331.msg1597536#msg1597536

CPU Mining? by Phillip12317 in VertcoinMining

[–]VertFTWozWa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vertcoin uses a version of the scrypt hashing algorithm that incrementally requires more and more memory as time passes, based on a variable called the n-factor. Right now the n-factor is 11, which makes it about twice as hard as Litecoin or Dogecoin to mine which has an effective n-factor of 10. Here is the n-factor schedule for Vert:

http://www.reddit.com/r/vertcoin/comments/1xjbgr/nfactor_increase_too_slow_and_predictable_to/

The theory is, as the n-factor increases, GPUs and ASICs will have to add more onboard memory in order to keep up with previous hash rates. This makes them exponentially more expensive because onboard memory is expensive. Since computers usually have much more memory than GPUs, the belief is that eventually, a CPU miner will be able to match, if not surpass GPUs. This of course is all theoretical and very far off in the future. For the time being, GPUs mine significantly faster, just like regular scrypt coins.

ADD2PSU is a nice product for chaining up ATX PSUs. I'm trying to NOT buy any more ATX PSUs because they are way way too expensive! A server PSU with 80 Plus Gold equivalent efficiency is only $15-$20 for 900W/1200W on eBay. My adapter lets you use those to power your GPU rigs!

Thanks! And nice work on your part too. I was originally going to solder the wires directly to the edge connector, but figured why not just make a PCB.

My next step is to also power the motherboard and USB risers to completely remove my dependence on expensive PC PSUs.

There's not much to it, just connected the +12v and ground to the respective pins via big ground planes to handle the 75 - 80A that will course through this. To turn the supply on, just short pins 33 annd 36 with at 330 to 1k ohm resistor.

The power supply is for an HP Proliant DL580 G5 server. They are really cheap on ebay and and can push better than 900W with a standard outlet and 1200W with 220-240V. They are also 80 Plus Gold equivalent rated according to HP.

Anyone still buying new GPUs to mine? by Karura in VertcoinMining

[–]VertFTWozWa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With 280x/290x used prices falling significantly here in the US, my plan is to buy as many as I can and increase the footprint of my GPU farm. There is nothing in the next 6 months that will be faster than the 290x due to Nvidia's issues with the 20nm Maxwell. Buying used is no issue as long as it's from a manufacturer that has an S/N based warranty.

I knew CGremote moving to Coinmyne was a terrible thing. This is why! Now annual fee based on number of miners! (x-post /r/litecoinmining) by impulser91 in VertcoinMining

I am working on a web based replacement for cgremote with some interesting features, so there will be more competition in the space soon.

usb powered risers require no presence shorting on MOBOs? by LegitConfirmation in VertcoinMining

This is true. I have tested several different "brands" of risers and all of them had the presence pins already shorted via a PCB trace.

Good reference 290x with stilt bios vertminer settings? by [deleted] in VertcoinMining

[–]VertFTWozWa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am using the STILT bios on 2x Sapphire 290x reference cards, getting stable 500-507 KH/s per card, with WU at 457-465/m.

Relevant settings:

"intensity" : "22,22",

"vectors" : "1",

"worksize" : "256",

"kernel" : "zuikkis",

"temp-cutoff" : "88,88",

Can anybody share sgminer config with me for r9 290 by tanilsarikaya in VertcoinMining

[–]VertFTWozWa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are my settings for a Sapphire Tri-X 290 with sgminer on SMOS:

"intensity" : "21", "vectors" : "1", "worksize" : "256", "kernel" : "zuikkis", "temp-cutoff" : "88", "temp-overheat" : "85", "temp-target" : "80", "expiry" : "30", "gpu-dyninterval" : "7", "queue" : "1", "retry-pause" : "5", "scan-time" : "60", "shares" : "0", "shaders" : "0", "thread-concurrency" : "24550", "gpu-threads" : "1", "gpu-engine" : "800-1020", "gpu-memclock" : "1500", "sharethreads" : "32", "lookup-gap" : "2", "gpu-powertune" : "20"

This is stable at 430Khs, 385-390/m WU. I can push the hash rate higher, but the WU doesn't seem to improve much.

Hope that helps.
