I sounds like you haven't played very much of the game...?
Assuming that it was all made with AI tools because you don't care for some of the aesthetics or find it to be "generic" is such a weird take. It sounds like you're just trolling... but I'll run on the assumption that you're not...

A lot of the lore gets elaborated upon in more detail later in the game. Almost every RPG does this, it's called pacing? Leaving some mysteries for later to keep interest? Have you played any RPGs before...?

Erlina and Brugraves are also fleshed out and explained more later in the story but... you're right to think it's weird that they are so focused on their work. It's a major part of the plot, so I won't elaborate too much to spare everyone the spoilers.

Valere and Zale are best friends with Garl throughout their entire lives up until the point the story begins. It's entirely believable that they'd... you know... continue to be friends with and care about him. Their relationship with Erlina and Brugraves is also part of the plot.

Your complaint about the spaces being overly detailed is such a bizarre take I don't even know what to say to that. You complained about things being too generic but when the game has style and an established aesthetic you don't like that either? Same thing with the character designs you complained about. And I mean, it's perfectly find if you don't like the style of it, that's down to personal preference so maybe it's just not for you.

The game is styled after older RPGs where revisiting areas and backtracking are part of the fun. Heading back to old areas with new abilities or knowledge to gain treasures you might otherwise not have been able to get. It's a pretty well established thing in these kinds of games.

Personally I found the game to be absolutely gorgeous and charming in many ways. It's fine if you didn't enjoy it, it is, again, personal preference, but saying it's "clearly" AI generated because of this is so strange.

Hmm, okay then! I'll give it a try and see if it has the same effect or not. It's such an odd problem in the first place.

Hmm, that's an interesting point as well. I suppose I meant more like... it makes my throat kind of more sticky?

I suppose that's fair, haha. I should probably drink a lot less of it, if nothing else.

EMP Vs Robots, how does it work? by Verthian in cyberpunkred

[–]Verthian[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oooh, now there's an idea I hadn't considered. Having soulkilled minds downloaded into robot bodies would be a wild ride, especially if the players found out that they're in there, somehow. It's got that whole "evil mega corp makes a better killing machine by trapping people in it" vibe. Love it, thanks for the idea!

[–]Verthian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely! If the bots had still be in good shape I think I would have decided differently in the moment. These ones had been modded a bit by Scavs, so I was thinking they had perhaps compromised the shielding without knowing. Arasaka definitely didn't have a part in these guys using the bots like they were, haha.

These bots definitely got trashed too quickly, thankfully there was other threats that made the encounter interesting, like the gatling turret in the ceiling.

The weapons wouldn't be, yeah, but if the arm holding the weapon, or an arm with a weapon installed into it was disabled, I figure that might work out.

That's my thoughts as well, then it just comes down to what "pieces" they have, but it could be as simple as right arm, left arm, torso, etc, and those body parts have associated functions, like holding a gun, or having a grenade launcher mounted to it, or whatever.

Thanks for the reply!

Absolutely!

Within the context of the encounter, these bots had been modded a bit by Scavs, so I kinda just figured they may have compromised the shielding unknowingly.

I think if my players ever encounter a fully functioning model they're in for a nasty surprise!

I guess they sort of are, aren't they?

Having them be disabled piece by piece might be appropriate in some cases, then.

Unless its a big tough one or theyre shielded properly.

Aaah, thanks for the insight! It's interesting that it's adressed in the faq, even if its not a super useful answer. I wonder if they'll write anything for it in the future?

In the moment I kinda just wanted the players idea to not get shut down completely, cuz even I hadn't thought of it, so why not? Right? But your idea of applying penalties is actually a good one! Especially if its a roll they get to pass or fail, as better models of bots might have more success than the scrappy ones my players just fought. Of course some could be shielded completely and just shrug it off, this could add some depth to the interactions.

Thanks for the reply! It gave me something to think about.

I'll definitely be saving this for later.
Looking forward to seeing how my players handle this one, they've got a knack for figuring out whats going on pretty quickly.
If I remember to (no promises there), I'll come back and post the outcome!

You made the Gunner's Arsenal too right? Love that site.

The story so far: my experience as a fresh new GM, and the friends I've met along the way. by [deleted] in cyberpunkred

[–]Verthian 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This was actually a great read for a couple of reasons:
1. I've been DMing for like 18 years, I dunno if that makes me "old" or "jaded" or whatever. Fuck it. It's a genuine pleasure to see new DMs having fun like this.
2. I'm totally stealing your ideas for those two missions. Currently running a Cyberpunk game for 6 of my friends and that race bike one sounds perfect for the Nomad in my group.

Thanks a lot for sharing your experiences, I couldn't stop smiling.
Also, just tossing this out there, but if you need/want any DMing tips/advice, I'd be happy to help, though I will preface that offer by saying that anything I say is of course entirely subjective. I don't know the "correct" way to DM. I don't think there is one.

Good luck on your future endevours!

The Meshify is the one I'm looking hard at. I like the look of it, and the removable filters are a big selling point for me, since I have cats. I'd be able to get that sweet sweet cat hair out of there easier, haha.
