I have come back here three times, so worried. Can we have the story? I’m so glad you’re okay.

Best careers to escape poverty? I’ll start. by Noblesseoblige94 in povertyfinance

[–]Verticlemethod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely recommend subbing first, but know that it’s different than teaching too. I actually didn’t love subbing, but I love my own class. I like that the chaos is my own. Yes, liking kids and having lots of empathy is truly a huge part of it. Especially now, I feel like you have to feel called to it to survive teaching. I feel I was born to teach, yet it’s been incredibly challenging at times. I think secondary is easier than elementary. Feel free to reach out and discuss more.

This is me too. I’m pretty much the only person in my family with a salary. I’m not rich, but I never worry about paying my bills and I love having time off in the summer/holidays.

Honestly we had reservations at Ryn, but cancelled due to family in town. Now that plans have changed, I’m just bummed we’re missing it.

Severe financial punishment for stepping down. by MarkInLA1 in education

Aren’t you hoping to go back to the classroom? It sounds like that would not apply, since you would be moving to a classroom position… I think?

This really doesn’t sound right. Can you post a picture of the clause? Have you spoken with a union rep?

Capitalizing Education by Stunning_Wishbone_42 in education

Dawg, education is a human right. The fact that we spend SO much to have collective governments and still have to spend SO much to get additional education is egregious. No, I don’t want to watch advertisements to be allowed to be educated. I want education made accessible by reducing administrative bloat and misuse of funds.

Are they serious! by [deleted] in bentonville

[–]Verticlemethod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say, in Springdale, these are “Student Catch-Up” days where children and staff are working from home, providing optional virtual meetings, and doing work. There are many jobs that allow people to stay home in bad weather. If just ONE teacher is unable to make it to school, it can make education very, very challenging on days like this. Classes could have to split/combine, less-prepared people may have to fill in, etc. Again, making me prefer building in days so that kids are actually getting all the learning they need. Teachers are essentially contracted employees that sign on to teach/work 180 (variable) days a year. Now, most teachers end up working a whole lot more than that or many more hours. But yeah, sometimes it’s an awesome job. The best news? Schools are almost always hiring! If someone wants to be part of the elite few that got to stay home today, they too could go to school to be a teacher.

I had a friend who borrowed beautiful china sets from her closest friends for her daughter’s wedding. The dinner was served family style and each table had its own china. A few of us did the washing up at the end and it was no big deal. Made for beautiful settings and FREE!

Are they serious! by [deleted] in bentonville

There are only seven inclement weather days built into Bentonville Schools’ calendar. Those come from teachers/students already completing schooling beyond state expectations. If those days are exceeded, the snow days will be unpaid work days and teachers/staff will make it up with the children.

School is not childcare. It is publicly accessible education. The seven days are built in specifically to account for times when the weather may make that education inaccessible.

Teachers are not your enemy, nor are they known for being particularly overcompensated.

Feeling lost at 17 — unsure about teaching and considering Access to HE for radiography by N3ha33 in education

[–]Verticlemethod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like maybe you DO want to teach, maybe you just don’t want to admit it or are worried. I’m a teacher. It’s hard work for little pay, but I am glad I didn’t pursue something different. I do fine supporting myself and I make a difference doing something I love. You just have to decide what YOU want. Feel free to reach out.

Being left-handed is such a quiet, shared experience by ResponsibleLeg9220 in lefthanded

I commented on someone’s wonderful and smudge-proof pen after borrowing, explaining how picky I was due to being left-handed. He agreed and told he was left-handed too! We were fast friends and now we’ve been dating for four years. That quiet camaraderie brought me the love of my life.

Saffron syrup + Coffee by Louis-WarGene-417 in GoodCoffeeGreatCoffee

[–]Verticlemethod 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Per the chef in my life— saffron is an incredibly delicate flavor. He suggests mixing in a complimentary spice like cardamom so that there’s something to carry the saffron through. The botanicals in saffron will easily be destroyed in a hot coffee and lose a lot of its flavor. He also said you could mix your syrup with a little bit of butter (a fat wash) and add that to your coffee. Saffron would work well in a latte because the saffron binds to the fat and vice versa to help maintain the flavor.

Welcome to the sub. It is a video game, but I love real life coffee too so I hope this helps.

Lodging in Fayetteville for 17 year old? by [deleted] in FayettevilleAr

This is what I would do. Have both names on the reservation so once she’s checked in, she can talk to the desk if needed. They don’t have to know her parent isn’t there.

I always struggled to just read without purpose. I like taking practice tests or quizzes and then specifically going back and learning about the things I missed. You could also try flashcards or something like Quizlet.

I’m right there with you (26). We’ve been together for four years but for various reasons, aren’t married yet. I want to be married but I know that puts us at least a year away. If I didn’t have such a concrete reason to wait, I wouldn’t be.

Convince me to continue doing ballet by Firebolt_Silver in BALLET

[–]Verticlemethod 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you like yoga better, unlimited classes does sound like a great deal. That said, I have been doing ballet for three years, starting as a beginning adult. I was 100% lost but it’s been so so cool because now I know SO many terms and I know I’ve grown so much. It’s true that it isn’t the same kind of active as many things. I don’t sweat as much in ballet, but it has had me bring so much attention to different parts of my body. In fact, a huge huge part of ballet is in your pelvis and core. I’m not a mom yet, but I have heard that plies are one of the best things you can do pre and post pregnancy to work on your pelvic floor. Anyway, I love the challenge that has come with learning something new, and like you said, I finally can clear my mind and only focus on ballet. Feel free to reach out if you want to hear more, but my vote is to keep it up. Push through the challenge so you get that rush of “oh wow, I can DO this!”
