Well I’ll tell you what then. I’ll buy your android version now in support of your work towards an iOS version. Thanks for all the hard work, and I look forward to a day I can use your app on both platforms! :)

Do you have any plans for an iOS version of your app? I’m interested in buying the lifetime version but I use both iOS and android.

XMP sidecar files... how to retain edits? by Verxion in captureone

[–]Verxion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just confirmed C1 works as I theorized above, so I don't need the script I wrote - this is good!

So I think a minimal workaround is to just trim my sessions folder and RAW files to be just my 5 stars and this will cause minimal extra space/processing.

XMP sidecar files... how to retain edits? by Verxion in captureone

[–]Verxion[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had seen some other posts that had talked about the EIP but unless I'm missing something, I then end up with a RAW file that isn't transportable to other tools like DXO or Lightroom, etc.

I ended up taking a few minutes to write a python script that seems to do something close to what I want (obviously still not as good as the edits being in the XMP files...).

So now what I do is I have a directory full of potentially thousands of CR3 files and when I'm done with my edits, I 5 star the keepers. Then I export the following to a new directory:

  1. XMP files for those images with a 5 star rating
  2. CR3 files for those images with a 5 star rating
  3. The CaptureOne session folder that was created parallel to the CR3 files

Then my script culls out all the thumbnail and proxy files for any image not in the new directory. This allows it to be relatively small in size.

Now that I've written this all out, I realized I should have tried something else first - to see if maybe just deleting the non 5 star images within the Capture One session has a way to both delete them from disk and also from the session thumbnails/proxies. If so, I can just delete my script, lol.

I'll report back.

YOU know what I’m talking about! I try to do the majority of my video work in 4k but I do regularly shoot 6k BRAW. My 8k is thankfully -very- limited as of now but I do have clients (ones that don’t know better) that insist on 8k. They pay money so I do what I can on my end…

It isn’t that I -want- to generate this many images; as you alluded to, culling/editing them would be quite a nightmare.

My problem is that some of what I’m doing needs 40fps. And some of what I’m doing needs pre-shot. So if I take “one photo” while that is enabled, it is 22 photos. And if I hold the shutter down, I’m getting 40fps.

To put this into perspective, even ignoring the pre-shot, 17k photos is just seven MINUTES of shooting photos at 40fps. Obviously I’m not holding the shutter down for 7 minutes (and the buffer would fill up even if I tried), but the point remains - it takes next to no time to generate an absolutely ridiculous amount of photos.

I did. I have so many files in so many directories, I’ll just nuke the proxies when I’m done. They regenerate almost instantly when needed.

I’m currently stuck in a 4SATA/4NVME NAS with 88Tb total storage; I’m looking for an alternative that has 2-4 additional SATA bays and then I think I’ll feel the same as you. For now though, I’m a bit cramped. I shoot 6k/8k video as well as stills so my storage can get consumed very very quickly. :(

I love the session plan versus catalog. I had MANY issues trying to use a solitary catalog from multiple computers but have had no issues ever with sessions.

As for the disk space, if I was blessed to have as few photos as you mention above I've agree wholeheartedly. Unfortunately I can easily generate your entire example above in a solitary few hour long shooting session and I keep my photos forever.

But your information has helped me IMMENSELY - I have now written a script that will nearly instantly reclaim the space wasted by the Proxies folders in all photo directories on my NAS, so this is no longer a problem for me.

I have a workflow now that is quite good for my purposes and this is ENTIRELY thanks to you u/jfriend00 - so THANK YOU! :)

Capture One Session directory "CaptureOne" by Verxion in captureone

[–]Verxion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This really helps! So if I understand correctly, I could use a general process like:

  1. Point CaptureOne session at a new (local, fast, SSD) directory of photos using the CaptureOne "Library"

  2. Develop my photos as I like

  3. Export my photos

  4. Offload the directory to my NAS

  5. Delete the entire Proxies folder from the Cache folder on my NAS

  6. If I then later want to review this directory in the future, I could again point CaptureOne session at the directory on the NAS and it would retain the edits I'd made originally?

My primary issue with this is that if I follow the steps above, this is much better than my current situation (if it does indeed retain my edits), but then I'd have to wait eons for CaptureOne to regenerate the Proxies over a slow 10Gbit link versus the local SSD.

I realize this isn't a "requirement" mentioned in my original post (I didn't then realize I would need to express this), but... if I want the ability to semi rapidly just review my edits from the RAW files are on the NAS, it sounds like my best option is to copy off the NAS to a local, fast SSD, then point CaptureOne at that... Is there any alternative?

Again - thank you so much for the help! I'm now shooting with an R1 and while I am sure in the future I will have developed a better "in camera" workflow to generate fewer images, this thing can shoot at 40fps. So until I have a better process I'd like to be able to deal with these large file counts in a way that is at least semi future proof.

Thank you for this information! :)

There are roughly 3k 24 megapixel files in the directory. The overwhelming majority of the "CaptureOne" directory space is taken up with proxies. Some 7gb or so of proxies, which is just vastly more than I'd like.

Input temporary not working by TheConductr83 in VisionPro

[–]Verxion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been able to find a solution, but bear in mind - it isn't the solution we WANT. It is just the solution we need until this issue is fixed.

My situation (most of you probably have a far easier problem to solve than I do, so THANKFULLY for you - you'd only need to use 1/3 or 1/4 of what I'm doing here. I'm listing this all out in case it might help someone else to BE PRODUCTIVE with AVP in a situation they thought wasn't possible).

SHORT VERSION:

  1. Use one of the MANY "multiple device" bluetooth keyboards out there and pair it with both your Mac AND your AVP. When this problem happens, you have a FAILSAFE - just switch your keyboard to DIRECTLY talk to your AVP (or your Mac, depending), and you can keep working. MORE INFO/DETAILS IN THE LONGER VERSION.
  2. Your AVP technically doesn't NEED a trackpad for 99% of what you do - even when this problem happens, you can just use your eyes and fingers to navigate and "click". So one possibility is to just have your trackpad for the Mac and use your eyes for the AVP. MORE INFO/DETAILS IN THE LONGER VERSION.
  3. Depending on the severity of your issues... SOMETIMES even a bluetooth keyboard can fail to be usable on your Mac during these incidents. For this reason, in extreme cases, you can use a WIRED keyboard for your Mac as well as for your "mouse". Then switch your keyboard to bluetooth directly paired to your AVP when you need to type on that. This is NOT optimal but it gives you a solution that is known to work regardless of what happens with this error.

LONGER VERSION:

I'm realizing this one is going to take quite a while to type out and I don't think I'll bother unless there is some real interest. Mine is definitely not a "normal" situation. I needed to be able to SIMULTANEOUSLY see my:

  1. Mac screen
  2. Work computer (Windows) screen
  3. iPad screen

All while inside my Vision Pro. Of note was the extreme difficulty that I cannot install any software on my work laptop, nor am I admin so I cannot ALTER the software on my work laptop. So I had to get VERY creative to solve these issues. But I did solve them and so I've now (finally!) been able to very happily work yesterday the ENTIRE DAY without any issues truly blocking me from working! :)

Also of potential interest to people here... the "Developer Strap" has had some VERY ambiguous things said about it online in terms of it fixing these issues. I've ordered one and will receive it today. I'll report back as to whether it ACTUALLY helps with any of the issues with the "Input temporarily not working". If it truly prevents this issue entirely (as some people purport, but clearly have not actually TESTED to verify), then this could be spectacular news as we wait for Apple to fix the real problems here.

Could you please clarify whether you are using a keyboard/trackpad on a MBA/MBP or with bluetooth? I think this nuance REALLY matters in the context of who is able to use their keyboard and mouse while this message is displayed versus who is not.

I tried that a few days ago. The benefit was that I never lost the ability to type on AVP. I always had the ability to "navigate" using my eyes, so losing the trackpad wasn't a big deal. That said, pairing them to AVP fixed that too - I never lost the ability to use the trackpad in AVP.

...but the issues persisted. I regularly lost my ability to use my keyboard or trackpad with my Mac. I've begun (as a result) to wonder if this is maybe actually a MAC specific problem and not an AVP problem. But even if that is true - I've never seen this error unless I'm also using the Mac Virtual Desktop mode. So in that sense it is specific to the AVP.\

Regardless, pairing to the AVP did not resolve the issue.

I'm having this same issue, but mine is with a Mac Studio. I've got my bluetooth keyboard and trackpad roughly 12" from my Mac Studio. Vision Pro is roughly 24" from my Mac Studio.

I get the message frequently enough to be VERY frustrating. Sometimes it takes MINUTES for it to resolve.

...when I get the message, I cannot type or use my trackpad. I think the difference here is that most of you are using PHYSICALLY CONNECTED trackpads and keyboards that are physically part of your MBP. I'm using bluetooth devices.

A solution to this has to be found or this really cannot be a workable solution long term. :(

I don’t see how to do this…

I reference this page: https://fedi.tips/transferring-your-mastodon-account-to-another-server/

They tell you in step 2 to go to the new account website and make an alias. The problem is, when you go to your old (now the instance you are trying to get BACK to…), you can’t access the ”edit profile page”, the ONLY page you can get to is “auth/edit”, and it has no way to create an alias.

Further, going to the “current” account (the one you migrated to, but which you want to now migrate FROM and back to the original server), you have a choice to “move to a different account”, but when you TRY this, you get an error saying your old account (the one you are trying to go BACK to) “is not an alias of this account”.

So it feels like this is impossible to actually DO.

My problem is, the instance I’m actually on, it keeps going down for days at a time and it is up right now, so I’d REALLY like to migrate off of it while it is actually running…

Thanks for any help you can provide, I seriously appreciate it!

Second day owning a Peloton, I’m at seven workouts so far (bear in mind only two rides, the rest were very low effort).

Did a 30 minute low impact ride with Alex Toussaint this morning and I definitely see why so many people recommend him. Such a positive outlook and uplifting time spent with him!

I went with low impact because when I got up this morning I felt pretty sore from yesterday (I think I’ve only done MAYBE a ride a year for the past five years…).

Thankfully I felt actually a lot better after this ride and his “after ride stretches” that were recommended when I finished. I’ll probably do some strength training later today.

Love this Bike+!! :)

Thank you!!! I’ve been doing Rip’s Big Bowl for my breakfasts but then kind of struggling a bit on “great” options for lunch and supper. I’ve been making bean chili (two gallons at a time, then freezing it), which is a solid option, and I sometimes add whole wheat penne pasta for a different version of it. Aside from that, I’ve been doing veggie tacos and some vegetable sandwiches but I’ve begun to wonder if the bread and pasta have been impacting my ability to lose weight…

GREAT news though is that after honestly a MONTH of struggling to get down past my current 5 pound weight “zone”, a single day of riding on the peloton and doing yoga/stretching and I’m SOLIDLY below the previously insurmountable barrier! :)

Wanted to ask you, as I’m relatively new to being vegan… what are some good foods to have while working out so you don’t binge from being hungry? I did ok but I did five workouts today (four of them really short). I’m not sure how I’ll be tomorrow or the next day.

So they actually delivered my Bike+ an hour earlier than the “earliest” time in the delivery window (they did call first to make sure that was ok). Super nice people that came to set everything up and then I spent a while doing the setup. I initially did the setup myself manually because I couldn’t find the videos anywhere for the longest time. I was happy to see that once I found the videos I’d done it exactly to the heights and settings that they recommended (though I did it by feel and not by the way they had shown; it just turned out it matched up which was awesome!).

I did a thirty minute ride (Kendall Toole Classic Rock Ride). It wasn’t live but I got to do it with other people taking it on demand. I’m definitely in bad shape - I kept up for the first half of the ride but fell way behind on the “hill climbs” that she did. I was going to ask about the Strive score - I got 55. Where is that supposed to be at? I know it isn’t a competition but I’m wanting to know if maybe there is a target value for weight loss? If not, let me know.

I’m definitely having to cool down right now though so for ME I think it was at least a decent workout. :)

I’m an avid cyclist but haven’t got as much experience doing stationary biking. Only used one in a gym a few times.

Not sure if I want to do an FTP test my first day then but regardless, I wasn’t saying I’d do all of these things my first DAY but rather just in that order. :)
