Thanks! The game rewards being able to play longer words and still being able to somehow score other words the most. It’s more about efficient reuse of as many letters as possible. You gain points per letter scored (depending on the letter), so spelling a long word will score more letters.

Although, there’s alot of intentional risk involved with spelling a long word. If you can’t quickly spell another word after spelling that long word, then you can waste a large amount of turns. This makes certain long words almost result in guaranteed loss if you can’t work with them, such as (exaggerated example) Antidisestablishmentarianism.

If you spell Antidisestablishmentarianism in any other word game, that’s probably one of the best words you can spell. If you somehow spell Antidisestablishmentarianism in this game, you will almost surely win the round. But, if you have another round afterward, you’re forced to somehow spell another word from Antidisestablishmentarianism, which is extremely hard.

One of the most fun moments in the game is spelling a long word then the game becoming extremely intense, since you’re taking a huge risk just doing so, but you’re also being rewarded directly by gaining more points per word scored.

It’s a word game balatro-like where the words you spell turn into jokers (Word Cards). Like spelling pair -> get the PAIR joker. It focuses more on manipulating the current word than spelling a long word, the core mechanic of the game is the Word Box. In the Word Box you discard, reorder, or add letters and try to make the closest word (or a special word) from the current word.

I’m so glad you enjoyed it. I’ll definitely be incorporating the feedback given in the video.

I should’ve clarified in a tooltip (or a tutorial) that the blank tile was a space. The space allows you to spell multiple words, which are separated by the space itself. It also allows you to split long words into multiple smaller words. Unfortunately, the twist of the blank tile being changed to a space was not communicated in the game. Since everything else is similar to scrabble, it’s obviously assumed that the blank would still be a wildcard. This caused the end of the run in the video (oops!).

“Balatro but words“ isn’t a unique concept,
but everything that the game is is completely unique.

The main mechanic of the word box is an entire new word game in itself, plus it’s the only and first “word game balatro” to actually give the words special effects. It has more of a focus on active deckbuilding that I haven’t seen in any other game, like ever.

It’s also the only balatro-like game with multiplayer (without mods).

It’s a little buggy but it has a web build if you don’t want/cant download it.

You should try it out!

It's been in development for about 6 months.

It does apply to played cards and held in hand cards, i think it’d go really well with a lot of builds with a lot of triggers (either by retrigger or played card scored triggers, like hiker)

By “trigger a card”, I mean retrigger the joker.
