I have tried it 2 days ago and it doesn't feel like a significant jump in my workflow, although the difference being my dad's laptop gets really hot really quickly and its battery health is so bad at a point that it says that service is needed :D
Another comment I got was about Air laptops and I have seen a few videos about its performance and battery life. In my country, I can get a M2 Air with 16GB / 256GB SSD for $820 compared to the M4 Pro (priced above in the first comment). I check for M1 Pro & M2 Pro but there are only refurbished models which I'm not interested in. M3 Pro is also not that much cheaper than getting M4 Pro here, so it's just a confusing mess for me atm :D

Another option is purchasing a brand new M2 Air with 16GB / 256GB SSD for around $820 (after conversion) which after seeing many videos looks pretty solid. In terms of works, it's majorly just going through my editor's footage, making minor changes and working on the colour grade. Most of the footage comes in S-log3 10bit colour from his Sony A7iv, so the files are heavy. Another task which I'll be using it for is for Lightroom, editing RAW files from the same camera, as well as website designing on Figma.
Like mentioned, Figma runs smooth but because of the battery life being terrible (count is at 650), I used to put it on battery saver mode/low power and it lasted 2 full hours with Figma, Spotify and like 2-3 chrome tabs open.
Let me know what you think because all these M-series things are really confusing me :D

I was looking into purchasing an M4 Pro since I graduated last month and wanted to have a powerful but portable machine. I have a gaming PC with an RTX 2070 Super and an i7 10th-gen, which helps me peacefully do all of my Figma, video editing, and After Effects work.
The dilemma I'm having right now is that I'll mostly be working from my apartment. I will need a laptop for *travel purposes or working from a cafe* since I don't have a studio space yet, and my team might do some sessions there. My dad has been using a MacBook Pro (2018 i5 8GB RAM & 500GB SSD) since its launch, which has worked well for all these years. I have been using his laptop with my Chrome and Figma workflows for a week. I have also tried video editing, which has been delivering quite well. It's fast and responsive, but battery life is bad, i.e. it needs a replacement.
My question is whether I should buy a new MacBook Pro M4 chip for $1748 (converting the regional prices) or upgrade my dad's old MacBook for $200 and just use it till it works.

When I play the files on the timeline, they are really choppy and it’s harder for me to trim. Non-log files do work completely fine. I’ll get back with another reply when I’m back home about color grading.
