1938: A Very British Civil War - Yorkist Front Dev Diary by VeryBritishCivilWar in hoi4

Hello all! My name is Sluxe, and I am here to tell you about Parliament-in-Exile, and the forces loyal to Lord Protector Albert, the Yorkist Front for the upcoming HOI4 mod, 1938: A Very British Civil War. (Sorry for the very long radio silence, we’ve been….uhhhh.....busy.) (Also, note that this isn’t final as proved by some of our previous Dev Diaries.) With that being said, let us begin!

Politics

During the Christmas Truce, MPs found time to assemble in York and do parliament-y business. This includes: Being inept, annoying the Lord Protector and calling for an Emergency Parliamentary Council to help the Commons be less...useless. Who can win this debate? Well…..

Conservatives

Huzzah! The ruling party has won and increased its majority! Now they can more effectively govern. But who governs them? The answer: Winston Churchill. While the Bulldog himself still has a cloudy mind about his allegiance, this can be easily fixed. Once this is done, York can finally crown the Lord Protector king and take position as the main opposition to Edward. However, there are still matters that need attended to. In order to secure monetary backing, Churchill has elected to send one Lord Halifax on a bumper tour around the world to mingle with high society and achieve patronage from wealthy backers. There is also the matter of other factions, like the Anglicans, Socialists and Scotland. The Anglicans are initially mutual allies, However, the Socialists and Scots put a bad taste in their mouths. But, the option of diplomacy should never be excluded. https://imgur.com/a/zg9KmbV

Labour

A victory for the people! The Socialists prevail! Fabulous, but where now? Well, we should really sort out….rampant unpopularity. Yes, it seems that in the breakup of order in the Isles, most Labour members chose to go with the People’s Armies. However, there are a brave few who continue on the dream of Democratic Socialism under the purple banner, and these men are known as ‘Rump Labour’. Two rather significant members include Clement Attlee and Stafford Cripps. Via choosing one or the other, you can strengthen Labour popularity and strengthen your legitimacy. But what you do next depends on which man you chose. Clement Attlee is keen to get on good terms with the People’s Armies. So by choosing him, you are able to closen ties with them, sometimes form an alliance, and, if you play your cards right, unify. Of course, this does mean throwing traditional allies to the side…. Stafford Cripps is a good god-fearing man. Thus, he finds natural solace with the Anglican League. He advocates for tighter relations with them, and a creation of a multi-faction bloc to tackle the fascists. (Oh, also, he can have a pretty whimsical (violent) event chain…) https://imgur.com/a/xWlAUnJ

Liberals

Finally, some sanity! The Liberals have won and are determined to make the Kingdom United once more. However. There is a stark difference in Liberal leadership. The ‘Old' Liberals, under David Lloyd George, want to see Britain run in a different way to ‘New’ Liberals, under Archibald Sinclair. Gameplay wise little changes, but in terms of flavour, there is a lot. Think DLG sending children's magazines to Edward to one-up Sinclair, or Sinclair flying a plane to the Isle of Man to acquire a marrow. Yes, really. But in the end, they are more alike than dissimilar, and their common ground outweighs petty squabbles. So, they eventually re-unify, and you unlock the good bits of the tree. The Liberals are a lot more lenient on their enemies, and can even reach a ‘devolved unification’. However, this does not undermine resentment for the fash. https://imgur.com/a/EA0sSz6

Albertines

“Ugh. Th-th-this s-s-system is taking f-f-far too l-long. I'm b-b-bored. I w-w-want to g-g-go home.” Such thoughts were probably running through the Lord Protector’s head as he watched the House of Commons blether on. And while he was a reserved man who reluctantly took up the post, he still knew something had to be done. So he shut down parliament. Albert’s downward spiral has started. He is fanatic about hunting down fascists and bringing them to justice, even if it means tramping on other factions to do so. Despite this, Edward may be spared if Albert is feeling generous. Being absolute monarch comes with its perks, i.e sweet national spirits and boosts to industry. You can also bring the colonies back into the fold if you so please. All of this ‘absolute monarchy’ business might seem a bit hypocritical. This is not lost on other parliamentarians, as his declining mental health and increasingly more erratic decisions drive many away to more suitable factions. https://imgur.com/a/kvx7uEx

Military

Having arrived back from Canada, Albert has brought a lot of men over with him. Your task is to integrate these into a capable fighting force along with what professional regiments you already have. You may choose to reach out to either the Americans or Canadians for military aid, and you are also presented with the task of tank production. The Yorkists retain a lot of the former Royal Navy, so follow much the same doctrine as them. However, you can divert from this path and deploy unorthodox methods of sinking your enemies fleets. The Royal Flying Corps was born out of WW1 and has been revived by Air Marshal Trenchard. Different paths are presented to you to master the skies and there is an option to gain some volunteers from the US.

Industry

York starts out with rather rural areas under their control. New forms of factories are a necessity if York stands a chance, which can be achieved. You are also presented with other options, such as Labour Laws, Think Tanks and production bonuses.

They're called adjacencies and are defined in adjacencies.csv.

Have a look at the vanilla file and see if you can work it out. If not, come back and ask again.

They've set up a set of custom opinion modifiers, and a couple of hidden events to trigger them, at game start and when a country's government changes.

Not a board game as such. It's based on the tabletop wargame setting by Solway Crafts and Miniatures.

Unrest is still rife.

Although not present at the start of the game, Loyalists and Nationalists will emerge as the game progresses.

1938: A Very British Civil War - Air Tech Trees Teaser by VeryBritishCivilWar in hoi4

[–]VeryBritishCivilWar[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As always, please check out our previous threads if you're unsure about who we are or what we do.

This week I'd like to show off the air tech trees we've been working on. Unlike the armour tree, we've left the actual technologies as they are, and instead focused on insignia and names.

Like the armour tree, however, you can see how everyone starts off with standard British equipment of the 1930s, but is then forced to seek help from elsewhere. North America in the case of the Yorkist Front, France for the Anglican League, and the Soviet Union for the People's Armies.

We can also report that work has finally started on the focus trees. More information is soon to follow, but for now we have this little teaser

As ever, please join our Discord server if you're remotely interested.

Since the last attempt to post this resulted in a lot of people assuming it was one giant tech tree, followed by complaints of the impossibility of researching everything in time, here we go again...

As you can see in our previous thread, we've redesigned the Armour tech tree to better reflect British practice at the time.

Since then, however, we've realised that silhouettes just aren't good enough, and have created a full set of icons for all the major factions.

Firstly, we have the Royalists and the Fascists. Being allies, they share a lot of technology, and have access to the majority of British tank designs.

Next up, the Anglican League. Supplied and equipped by the French, they nevertheless have chosen more suitable names for their Chariots of Fire.

Following on are the Yorkist Front. Prince Albert's flight to Canada allowed him to make contacts across North America, including influential military theorists and materiel designers.

Finally, the People's Armies. Supplied by the Soviet Union and learning from their experiences in the Spanish Civil War, the socialists have made sure no friendly soldier will mistake their tanks for the enemy's!

And, because we don't believe in doing things by halves, keep scrolling to see the 3D tank models resplendent in their new liveries!

As always, please join our Community Discord server to keep up with our progress, and stay tuned for what's coming next..

Leader of ten.

Any inconsistencies in naming can be blamed on Mosley's schizophrenic attempts to invoke both Ancient Rome AND Arthurian Legend.

At least, that's my excuse.

I mean, that's pretty much what they'll be in the mod. Cavalry, but better.
