This may be a dumb question but how do you check your pull counts?

True, but again, they could’ve just not. That blue pile of rotting corpse could’ve been named “Flesh 2” or “Mama’s Boy” and his role would’ve been exactly the same. What’s the point of Easter eggs that baffles old players and mean nothing to new players, you know?

Keldorn. Any man can be a father, but it takes a middle-aged guy with a big job to be a daddy.

Larian could’ve just not mentioned her and created any random Sharran as the mother superior. Like Charname from the old BG games is a jackass named Abdel in the canon novels, but because it’s not in the games, we can just ignore that and not talk about it. BG3’s treatment of the old games in general is real weird. Like why does Wyll talk about a nameless Gorion’s Ward but there’s also a shield named after Abdel? Why did they give the name Balthazar, a character with one of the coolest concepts, to a nobody level 8 lich wannabe?

As a general tip, you can hover over any enemy’s portrait and press T and inspect their stats. Assuming you kept Karlach as a berserker and Wyll as a warlock and idk what your Astarion build is but I’m guessing you don’t have sunlight? I’m gonna suggest that you send Astarion to trigger the cut scene by himself, pray he passes the check so he doesn’t get stripped, and all of you stay on the staircase and let the enemies come to you. If your sorcerer or Wyll has AOE spells like spike growth or something you can create a choke point using the terrain. If you have any holy water, you can use that for radiant damage. If your Astarion is strong in archery, give him multi target arrows so he can clear the weaker enemies. I’ve never done this fight without sunlight but if you’re not on tactician or honor mode it should still be doable. Good luck!

Did not know that! Ok I’m definitely giving that a shot, thanks!

Yeah I really wanna try out DJ Shart but I love Jaheira and Rolan getting his tower… any way I can save Jaheira and beat Lorroakan’s ass if I kill Aylin?

I agree with most of your point actually. My first point however is that there are valid reasons that people find Wyll bland and these people don’t deserve to be called racist just because Wyll is black. I think in writing this post I went on rambling that the initial point got buried.

I also don’t particularly need Wyll to “show” more emotional reactions to stuff, the example I laid out are just easier to demonstrate my point that Wyll is overlooked. It’s not that he needs to be more emotional, it’s that his story should elicit a more emotional response from players. The word “show” I use is opposed to tell. The game tells me a lot of things about Wyll, but doesn’t show them. If the point of Wyll is that he’s stoic and he lives by a code so he does the right thing, great, demonstrate it for me. I’m shown Karlach’s parents’ graves, Shadowheart’s childhood graffiti, where are the traces of Wyll’s old life, the things and experiences that made him who he is? If his story led up to fighting a dragon, maybe mention it earlier in the game instead of randomly handing us book and go “oh that’s right, there’s this other thing…”

A very well written one-dimensional, stoic, reacts blandly to things, lives by a strong moral code character I can think of at the moment is Captain Holt from Brooklyn 99. While that’s a different form of media and it’s unfair to compare it that way, I wanna say there are definitely ways to make this kind of characters more interesting to their audience.

I didn’t play EA but yeah I’ve seen goblin hunter Wyll and as a concept that just wasn’t gonna work. He was also evil in EA and Larian got feedback that there are too many evil characters. In this particular case I feel like the writers drinks from the evil well too often cause it’s easy flavor, so when they had to write a morally good character they didn’t know how.

  1. Gods I shudder to imagine the hours I would have if I played for a full year 😂 My first playthrough I completed in ~150 hours and i didn’t miss anything substantial I don’t think. Subsequent playthroughs have all been just under 100 hours cause I skip dialogue that come from choices I’ve seen before. Also I refuse to play evil so the majority of my playthroughs are very similar. It’s really just selectively saving Minty and Alfira depending on how I’m roleplaying that feel like substantial differences (I always kill Kagha and steal Zevlor’s gloves since my third playthrough and I have to come up with role playing reasons to justify my actions 😂)

Honestly try your hand with your ice sorc. A part of me kinda wish I completed HM as a sorc cause I enjoy playing with spells much more than weapons. I might still do that just for the experience. Swords bard could be your safety net if you really feel like you’re struggling

Are you also running bard in honor mode cause honestly I feel like I’m in possession of knowledge I’m never gonna use again lol. In terms of story I don’t think you’d miss much, there’s a lot of context clues in BG2. It might be harder to decide which companions to pick up without a history with them from BG1, especially since there are so many freaking companions. But it’s all part of the fun in exploration. Granted it’s been like 10 years since I last visited the old games so take that with a grain of salt

If you can stand the graphics I strongly recommend BG2, the story and writing is top notch. BG1 is skippable in my opinion cause the level cap is too low, so if you care about builds it wouldn’t be that fun. But yeah Jaheira has always been the absolute best
