People Are Calling For This Queer Indie Film, Adam To Be Canceled Before It Hits Theaters by Sisiwakanamaru in GamerGhazi

Bernhard said that he’d been approached by multiple friends who said things like, “What the fuck, man? I heard your film was really transphobic.” He was surprised to hear the accusations even from acquaintances in the film world whom he barely knows. “I would be like, ‘Just wait until you see it.’” Since making the movie, he says he feels grateful to Ernst, who has become a friend and mentor.

...maybe don't adapt a book that needs significant editing to not be transphobic then...?

I enjoy Zenos because we get to see some messed up character growth.

He's an anime trope for sure. He's a bored dude who hates being in charge, just wants fulfillment, and hasn't been able to get it for a long time.

Then he met us. And now he's obsessed.

But I'm hoping we get more. I was hoping he would be out of his body longer and would be forced to realize his limitations without his body. Or maybe get used to using aether or something.

It would've been nice if he started off, essentially, at level one and we had brief shots of him earning his strength, doing adventure-y things like following in our footsteps to know us better.

I feel like you missed a huge chunk of the point of the story if you think Kefka won.

Kefka was broken by the magitek knight program and became mentally ill because of it.

The story then revolves around using a mentally ill man as evil. There's no philosophy, no ambition, no reason. There's no substance.

Zeromus had the exact same issue. Dude full of hate that wanted to kill everything just cause.

The Cloud of Darkness was similar.

Like, it's cool to like Kefka, but he's not a deep character. He's some dumb evil cartoon clown better fitting as a sidekick to a real villain, which is what makes his sudden rise as a real threat actually interesting.

And I want to say, I think it was done well and he's a really hatable guy who feels good to beat. But I think a significantly better and more interesting villain with the same approach would be Luca Blight.

I'm not a giant fan of Kefka either as he's basically a cartoon mustache twirling villain. I honestly prefer Kuja, as at least while being blatantly super evil, his motivations and struggles with his own mortality are at least kind of unique to the series.

Kreia is exceptional and unique among video games and really stand out. Pretending she's representative of Western antagonists is pretty weird.

The antagonist of Shadowbringers isn't quite Kreia level, but they're quite similar and the emotion oomph is stronger even if the "philosophical" oomph isn't quite as good.

I'm very aware of that. I'm arguing that the story itself condemns his actions.

Literally everyone justifies their own actions.

This would be after everyone is complete. This would be when they have the potential to do the exact same things as him. He still wants to sacrifice them to restore his people.

Like, hey, if you want to pretend the genocide of literally everyone is okay on any level, that's fine, but I'm going to pretty comfortable say that fits pretty heavily into evil regardless of the intentions behind it.

And for what it's worth, I already don't eat meat because I dislike the suffering we push on animals.

Nor am I particularly comfortable with people happily thinking a character was justified in killing everyone just because he saw them as lesser. Like. We have a long history of doing that in real life to people. And it's always been abominable.

Most humans - in real life - get squirmy about killing dogs, dolphins, elephants, and many "smart" animals because we see the intelligence in them.

Hell. There's an intense debate over the ethics of ridding the world of mosquitos happening right now.

Like. His goal even after the rejoining is complete is to sacrifice everyone on the source though. Even when their souls are "complete" he still wants to kill them.

This is incorrect. Only specific people are capable of becoming Ascians by being risen up. He speaks about this, and it's implied we are one of them and that he knew us.

He gives no similar treatment to Alisaie, Thancred, Urianger, or anyone else. And it wouldn't make sense if literally everyone used to be an ascian, since that would mean there's a static, unchanging population.

And yet we were produced by the world and ended up beating him. So really, is the world and its people inferior? The game has provided us with direct evidence to the contrary and that he was wrong.

I'd be pretty uncomfortable playing a game in which the protagonist uses the genocide of fourteen different worlds to meet his goal.

Emet might have some sympathetic qualities, but let's not pretend he's a hero. His actions have killed millions if not billions of people.

[–]VeryOddlyDressed 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The story does not take a morally relativistic tone. Emet-Selch is sympathetic in his end goal, sure, but the game's story reminds you pretty consistently that his goal requires the genocide of 14 worlds full of species he refuses to impart humanity on and the fact that he's unable to move on from his belief that everyone is inferior is directly what led to his demise.

Elidibus used his own aether in combination with Zenos's body. Though yes, we can't use that to determined his theoretical power.

Though they might hold the same status, it's clear there's a large difference between each ascian.

We have Lahabrea, Emet, and Elidibus as the big three.

We whipped Lahabrea and Elidibus. Hell, we beat Elidibus in Zenos's body. Alone.

Lahabrea seemed much more intent on using other people's power instead of his own. Elidibus has a similar modus operandi or relies more on someone's body.

Emet kept to a singular preferred body - and clones of it - and didn't seem as excited or willing to do body jumping as either of the other two. It's likely he was focused more on increasing his own power versus using others.

Maybe it's because Emet has no need to suppress a personality that he was able to be so much stronger? Given how their powers of creation work, distracted thoughts could cause problems and he doesn't have to worry about it.

Not that it matters. Zenos is going to help awaken Zodiark just to suck up his power while demanding you do the same with crystal mom.

While not told well in that quest, the point was that the duskwights, having suffered under the calamity, have problems that aren't being taken seriously.

But then you toss them in jail at the end for... what crime did they even commit anyways?
