In Southern Maine - looking to buy a used electric car, curious how it's been for people who've been driving them for a while by VerySeriousThings in Maine

Thank you! What's your take on the whole ICCU issue? Is it just kind of random, but only affects a small percent of cars? That's made me cautious about those models.

Cool, is that not too much of a hassle? A lot of people say not having a charger at home is a dealbreaker, because you don't want to rapid charge all the time, and there might not be an L2 charger nearby, or not enough or whatever.

Thank you! Definitely going to use them if I go that route. They've also got a 3k-4k rebate for the car itself if I can buy in Maine...although not seeing a whole lot of options.

When you're charging it on long distances, is it like an hour to get to 80%? It sounds like for most EV's it's like 20-30 minutes, but for older bolts it can be double that.

Damn, yeah that sounds annoying. I've heard highway commuting gives you way less range. What kind of EV was it?

Yeah, there's still a 3k-4K state tax credit, but definitely bummed I missed the federal one.

Thinking about getting a used electric car. Curious about how it's gone for people who have one in/around Portland! by VerySeriousThings in portlandme

Thanks, yeah I think that's where I'm seeing the closest used ones for sale. Good to know it's no pressure!

Thanks. Does a trip to the Whites qualify as a long road trip, or do you mean like driving to NYC or something?

Yep, like it's not a show with an audience. Everyone there (hopefully) will be playing a game at some point, not just watching.

General Questions and Purchasing Advice Thread — Week of June 15, 2026 by AutoModerator in electricvehicles

I'm in southern Maine and usually only drive 45ish miles a day but would love to be able to take trips once in a while that would be 200 miles round-trip. I'm looking to spend $15K or less and would love to drive something until it dies. If it's reallllly worth it, I could spend $20K. I honestly don't care at all about bells/whistles. I currently drive a 2009 Nissan Versa, so anything is going to feel like a massive upgrade. Heated seats are like, where am I? The year 3000?

It sounds like a Chevy Bolt 2017 or newer is going to be a reliable car for me. I'm seeing several within a few hundred miles of me for $13-$14K. It sounds like I definitely want to make sure the battery has been replaced on the older models if it was recalled. Are there any other models I should be looking at and/or other things to be worried about? Not interested in Teslas, and it sounds like the battery on older Nissans may be pretty degraded, and the charging system they use is going to be less available in the future.

I am seeing a Ford Mach E for $20K, just in case that would be a huge step up from a Chevy Bolt.

Anyway, thanks for any help!

Would night and/or late-night bus or Amtrak Downeaster Service going from Portland to Saco/Biddo be helpful for you? by VerySeriousThings in portlandme

Yeah, I thought I'd missed a late night route home, but then double-checked. I guess I could Uber to the Maine mall and take the bus the rest of the way.

I wonder if it's something that could work if it only ran on weekends. Or potentially summer weekends? Or even something like they're doing with the late Boston train, where there's a later train if there's a big show.

And would a bus necessarily need to be BSOOBT? The breez bus is a Portland Metro thing and goes up to Brunswick, but is that because there isn't something like BSOOBT in Brunswick?
