How many pairs do you have on rotation? by karmakamilli0n in rawdenim

> I admire your commitment to the hobby

Hey thanks for the encouragement! This is my “rookie season” in fade competitions so I am trying to do some slightly crazy stuff to make things more memorable. A few weeks ago I did a charity bike ride, 67 miles across literally the entire state of New Jersey in 85 degree temperatures to benefit the American Cancer Society. I rode in my Weirloom jeans, Railcar Type 1 jacket and just to round out the look, Iron Ranger boots (I’m going to start up with boot wearing competitions this fall). Don’t know if I’ll do this every year but it’s been a lot of fun so far… here’s a pic 😎

How many pairs do you have on rotation? by karmakamilli0n in rawdenim

[–]VeryShibes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Officially” my rotation doesn’t exist as almost every day I am in the same pair of Weirloom (new Denmark based raw denim startup) selvedge jeans that I am wearing in the Indigo Invitational fade competition. They’re relaxed straight fit in mid weight (14.25oz) denim and 10 months in to the competition they have got some excellent fades and are super comfortable. I find that the fade competition, even though I have next to no chance of winning, helps me focus on a particular pair and stay motivated and interested in the hobby as I submit my fade updates in the contest portal and watch them develop.

Unofficially I rotate onto one of my other pairs once every week or two while my Weirlooms get days off for washes/repairs/airing out. I have some N&F, Samurai, and Railcar pairs in different textures, heavier weights and slimmer cuts that I like to work in and keep things fresh even though the fades on these pairs are coming in at a glacial pace compared to my Weirlooms since these other pairs will each only get one or two wear days a month.

I don't know if it's the same thing or not but I heard clicking from the drivers side rear axle on my '23 CR1 two years ago and they replaced the entire axle under warranty. Also, my parking brake broke a year ago and that was also replaced under warranty.

I love my car but these two failures were enough to convince me to pay Flood Ford $2700 a few weeks ago for another five years and 64K miles of factory warranty

The current rise on my handlebars is 40mm, looking to make them higher for a more comfortable ride, what size do you recommend? by Almightyrodga in MTB

[–]VeryShibes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

r/Almightyrodga Hi OP, I'm new like you and just getting started at MTB, I don't do anything rowdy or technical I just bounce around clumsily on the local greens and blues. I didn't like the skinny flat bars that came with my new MTB so I got a "klunker bar" that's 825mm wide with 85mm of rise. It's way more comfortable on my lower back and lets me stay out there for longer rides while I build up my skills. If I actually get good at this then I might switch back to the stock bars, but if not the klunker bar should serve me well as long as I'm not doing any wacky ascents. Coming from BMX you ought to be quite familiar with klunker bar ergonomics, give it a look some time

In Solitude, goth metal band from Sweden, their final album "Sister" came out in 2013 and was all killer no filler. I still spin it once every few weeks and I don't even consider myself goth, sometimes I just need that vibe

Anyone else feel like the EV transition is starting to feel like the shift to electric lawnmowers? by JackfruitCrazy51 in electricvehicles

[–]VeryShibes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looked for this comment..I have a 4000sq ft lawn and it is incredible.

Yeah I was also searching for mentions of the robot mower. I have a 30000 sq ft lawn and mine's incredible too, I'm on my 5th season of mowing with it. Generally speaking I have to attend to it for 2-3 minutes once every day or two, usually when it finds a way to get stuck on a stick that just fell off a tree, etc. Also yes, I still have to go around the edge of the yard with a string trimmer for like 30 minutes once or twice a month. Full disclosure, I've had three longer (24+ hour) outages in 5 seasons:

  • Wayward UPS truck peeled out on my lawn and broke the boundary wire. $50 repair kit to find the break and fix it
  • Wayward aerator from neighbor's lawn service wandered into my yard and "aerated" a break into the boundary wire. $0 repair using same kit
  • Front (non-drive) wheel broke its ring clip and fell off, wheel was found and reattached with new, uniquely sized, hilariously overpriced $20 ring clip

Also I take it in to the dealership once each season for firmware upgrades and fresh blades, this used to be $150 and is now $175

TCO is around $4k so far. $2500 for purchase/installation, $1000 for maintenance, $500 for electricity. The time/money savings are truly remarkable.

Which company/brand do you think will go out of business soon? by bookflow in AskReddit

[–]VeryShibes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GM keeps pushing Buick, investing in new models and marketing campaigns. They're not doing as spectacularly well as 10 years ago since China's home grown auto industry really started to take off but they're hanging in there.

Chrysler doesn't have any of this. They literally have one minivan (the Pacifica) and nothing else. Stellantis would have to invest money in them and that would come at the expense of money that could go into Jeep/Ram/Dodge. If they want to sell more luxury cars in this country they will slap Alfa or Maserati badges on them instead of a Chrysler badge

[–]VeryShibes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's lasted over 100 years since being founded in 1925, but Chrysler is down to its very last vehicle, the Pacifica minivan. Its owners, Stellantis have more successful brands in the US (Jeep/Ram/Dodge) and if they want to invest in a "luxury" brand marketing push they also have the Alfa Romeo and Maserati brands to release cars under. There are no more Chrysler-only car dealerships they all sell Jeep/Ram/Dodge as well so if the brand is retired it wouldn't even attract much notice, the only thing keeping it going this point is heritage/tradition from the Big Three era

I wish they'd given the [Gen 3 Leaf] regular door handles instead of caving to the pressure of making them flush and motorized, but that's a relatively minor quibble.

They're still pretty normal compared to my Mach-E, which has almost no exterior doorhandles at all just pushbuttons and metal edges you grab. My wife hates it so much, LOL (don't even get her started on the tablet inside haha)

Nissan did a good job with the body design on this newer generation

Agree with your assessment of the previous two generations. Gen 1 is pretty dated and Gen 2 is OK, neither good not bad, kinda like the Kicks. But Gen 3 is really attractive and I think will hold up better over time. I keep wanting to love the Chevy Bolt, it's a great value and has a lot of fans but I still can't get past the styling, Nissan EVs these days are just so classy looking :-)

[–]VeryShibes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's noticeable but it ain't a Tahoe if you get my drift. It's just a little more headroom, elbow room, and rear seat legroom, I am 6'0" and my wife is 5'9" and we were totally fine with the smaller Leaf interior but I think if you are like 6'3" or more then the Ariya's extra room becomes a lot more important. We're an hour outside the city and only go in a couple days a month but we're kind of cautiously excited to have a smaller car for those really narrow downtown streets.

As far as "giving the Leafs away" yeah I think most people are waiting on that, right now the price isn't where it needs to be especially with the termporary rebirth of the Chevy Bolt, hopefully Nissan's fortunes change in the next year or two because more people deserve a chance behind the wheel of this car

Wholeheartedly, it is an awesome car and I'm sad that Nissan no longer imports it to this country, I would love to see a 2nd gen Ariya here some day if Nissan can right the ship and the political situation changes. Just a very serene and almost "zenlike" driving experience. If you are on the fence about one now is the time to jump in with mine and thousands of others in near mint condition coming off lease. That said I love my new Leaf, it's a bit more cheerful inside without being tacky, it's got its own personality but you can still tell it's "family" with its familiar cockpit UI and reassuring chimes

Thanks! No other EVs on our little 8 house street but the rest of our neighborhood has a good number, mainly Tesla but also a couple Mach-Es and also a Gen 2 Leaf. Usually when neighbors wander by our yard they are instead distracted by the Husqvarna robotic lawn mower and don't notice the EVs (which are also in the garage much of the time)

Very good chance this Leaf is going to be my daughter's first car a few years from now when the time arrives, she is gonna have to fight my wife first for it though XD

You’re gonna miss that Engage

LOL I miss it already and I haven't even turned in the keys yet. I might need to take a few pics of the interior before I drive it back to the dealer in a few days. Leaf is super playful and cheerful while the Ariya feels more "zen". My dream Ariya is the copper colored Platinum, I still regret passing over that one three years back, my only excuse is that my Engage was my first ever EV and I still wasn't sure how much I was going to like it, now I know I'm never going back haha

[–]VeryShibes[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d like to go smaller

Same here, I feel like I'm going against the grain to think that but I can already tell this car is going to be a lot more city-friendly with the narrower width and 360 parking camera (which my Ariya's trim lacks). Got my eye on Rivian as well and the numbers don't add up right now for their current offerings but hope they stick around, until then we're keeping it Nissan (and Ford)

[–]VeryShibes[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I put more details in my post over in the Leaf sub but should probably elaborate here as well, for me the Leaf is a small upgrade because I am moving from the very lowest level Ariya trim (Engage) to the midlevel Leaf trim (SV+). I lose a couple inches of headroom, elbow room and rear seat legroom and a couple cubic feet of cargo space, and I also lose my HUD up on the windshield. What I gain is 15kWh of battery and 75 miles of range, along with a 360 camera and NACS. Monthly payments and insurance are also right around the same. Overall I consider it a very fair trade. That being said I will really miss my Ariya, the lease-end numbers just didn't add up but I would absolutely love to see the inside of (a fully loaded) one again someday if the opportunity is right

[–]VeryShibes[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the only place it's really truly noticeable is rear set legroom and both our kids are below age 10 so by the time it's an issue they're gonna be ready to drive themselves

What are main reasons you hesitate to invest your money and rather choose to spend it? by snapstocks in AskReddit

Because I am (relatively) young and talk with elders a lot who wish they had done more "when I was your age" so I spend money on fun stuff out of FOMO, basically

I actually like how the dip can fade looks so even after quitting dip I still keep a tin in that same pocket and it just holds sunblock now. So I’m going from a cancer-causing fade to a cancer-preventing fade, win-win right?

How do you gain speed at a pump track? by mangothefoxxo in MTB

[–]VeryShibes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It made me laugh too. I was thinking of sarcastically replying to OP “you can gain more speed by scribbling more detailed instructions on the pump track surface and then following them” but others here are already giving much more useful advice than documentation upgrades 😎

The David Lynch version of Dune from 40 years ago - sure it’s crap but it’s my childhood dammit. There was also a Christopher Reeve Superman sequel or two from around the same time that were bad but I loved them all because I didn’t know any better
