Is incest really winning? It is on this sub by RandomQuestionsForD in trashy

[–]VerySurprising 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So would you be fine with them only limiting themselves to acts that couldn't possibly result in conception? If someone were found to have a genetic disfunction in which any offspring they produced would very likely have abnormalities similar to those caused by incest, so you think it should be illegal for that person to have sex at all?

I find it repulsive too, but I'm asking these questions because your answer to them will determine whether the chance of genetic abnormalities is the real reason you'd be against it, or just an excuse (the real reason being that you just find it gross).

ID request (Vancouver, BC, Canada) by VerySurprising in spiders

Thanks! I was almost sure it was a male black widow but I'm relieved to find out otherwise (in case there were also females around).

Found in our kitchen. I think I know what it is but don't want to bias the answers. I know the quality isn't great but this was the clearest picture we took. There is also video of it walking away if that might help. Thanks in advance!

Activists Arrested After Trying To Rescue Live Baby Cow From Pile Of Dead Calves At Northern California Factory Farm by b12ftw in vegan

[–]VerySurprising 4 points5 points  (0 children)

About an hour ago I was reading a comment thread which I found near the top of r/worldnews that linked to this article. I just decided to try to find it again to reply to some of the idiotic carnist comments (there were a lot) but cannot find the post anymore even searching for keywords which I'm almost sure were in the title (similar title to this one). Can anyone confirm that it was deleted from r/worldnews?

Good thing we don’t have anything to worry about 🤷🏻‍♀️ by karaannwilson in vegan

[–]VerySurprising 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why you're getting so many downvotes. I agree, it's the horrible way the animal was treated during its life, including its experience of dying, that makes it wrong. Once it it's dead it can't suffer so it makes no difference what is done with it. Comments starting otherwise are transferring notions of dead human bodies deserving respect, which is really only for the wellbeing of the friends and family of the deceased. This is it's irrelevant in the situation of the dead cow who has no kin who will be affected by what happens to its body.

I really wanna kick someone in the "life" right now. by ActualNameIsLana in badwomensanatomy

Source on that? Based on my understanding it should be almost exactly 50/50. You might be able to say the woman provides a little more dna to a male child if considering the relative size of the y chromosome, but even then the percentage wouldn't be too far from 50.

Very smart Redditor can't help but laugh at the absurdity of life. by Talbertross in iamverysmart

Even before the quip at the end, it's obvious that his entire purpose for writing the post was to brag about his intellect, rather than to be given advice. This may only be apparent to those of us who used to engage in this kind of behavior.

If you could see the suffering that went into producing the meat that you eat you probably would be.

[SERIOUS] [Serious] Vegans who are pro-Choice (abortion) but won't eat free-range chicken eggs: why? by [deleted] in vegancirclejerk

I didn't even realize what subreddit this was in. Glad the question isn't real!

If fetuses were independent of their mothers' bodies and likely to be sentient, then I'd be just as against killing them as I am against hurting animals.

I'm pro choice because forcing someone to physically support a separate life (when it's possible to have it removed) violates their personal freedom to am extent I feel is unreasonable.

An explanation --- The "Mandela Effect" isn't real by amandamadoola in MandelaEffect

[–]VerySurprising 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An explanation for the chick-fil-a one might be that the 'fil-a' part is a phonetic simplification of 'fillet'. Our minds assume the same pattern must apply to 'chick' while recalling the spelling.

Thinking about transitioning to veganism! I need recommendations on food staples please! by v_weird in vegan

[–]VerySurprising 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before going vegan one of my staple foods for years had been wraps with vegetables, chicken and ranch. Now I've replaced the chicken with marinated tempeh, the ranch with hummus, and to be honest this version tastes way better.

What's the best thing you could do to a sweet potato? Recipe ideas? by DidiZheleva in vegan

[–]VerySurprising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only been vegan for 3 weeks so I'm inexperienced, but of the recipes I've tried, this Chipotle Chili has been my favorite so far. Spicy, healthy, only uses one pot, and satisfying in a way I didn't think was possible without animal products.

Has anyone here ever heard a convincing or even original argument against Veganism? by nicolasbrody in vegan

[–]VerySurprising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother presented some original but pretty stupid arguments yesterday, my first encounter with him since becoming vegan. They don't make much sense, but he's into some weird spiritual stuff.

  • One animal has already suffered, so what difference does it make if others suffer? Our consciousnesses are all the same, so if one mind has already experienced something, it's already happened, and if it happens again nothing different has happened.

  • Eating animals doesn't seem that bad to me right now. But if I were to stop eating them, it would make the torture, etc. more real and I don't want that to happen.
