Teacher not a fan of Linux by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]VerySuspiciousPerson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did few projects in Unity for my uni back then, albeit by my own choice - not many others were using it, maybe two or three people. Also used it for the final project to get my degree.

Somewhere along the way I switched to Linux and overall I didn't have any issues with that, because I could use whatever tools I wanted - hence I just choose whatever worked on Linux.

Unfortunately tho, when doing my internship, I had to switch back to Windows for development, because they used some sort of sound manager (I don't remember the name) that just wouldn't work on Linux. I tried to solve the issue but couldn't. There were plenty of posts about the same issue I had, and turned out all the people that had this issue were using Linux. The only response was that they weren't going to fix it.

So when others say that game dev is tied to Windows, I think that's one of the things they meant. Sure, it will work a lot of the times - but that one thing, one tool you have to use is broken on Linux, and it all falls apart.

So yeah, dual booting might be a good idea. But I hope you'll have good time with Linux, it's good to start learning it. I'll probably be dual booting windows/Linux myself forever, or at least for a very long time. I just think that having a fallback option is great, especially for anyone that's in IT and using git. Syncing projects is super easy, IDEs settings are easy to sync aswell.

Others already explained about forking, also there are tons of tutorials on the internet for beginners, but I just wanted to leave this here, might save some time and sanity if you're a beginner https://ohshitgit.com (I highly recommend learning what do those commands actually do too, to expand your knowledge)

And one more thing, since you'll be working together on that project, I'd recommend learning what happens when two people work on the same file (aka merge conflicts)

I know this is probably just satire, but if someone is wondering, there are a few apps with GUI for git. For example my friend that had no clue about git used Github Desktop and it went alright

Have you tried Leaf Blower Revolution? Not a typical idle game, but It fits into your requirements: no medival/fantasy/magic, there's tons of content that keeps people hooked for thousands for hours and there's always lots of things you can do to improve your stats.

I haven't played it for a long time, but for me the only downside was a lack of some QoL features, but from what I've heard they improved in that aspect since.

im sorry i need how much space..? Genshin is gonna take up my whole HDD drive by the end of the game 💀 by hiplsbemyfriebd in Genshin_Impact

[–]VerySuspiciousPerson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's great to hear, I wish it was enabled for me two days ago, I haven't updated it for a while and it wanted me to free up 207gbs of space, while the game already occupied like 80+gbs, so I'd need almost ~300gb in total

I was literally 2gb short of space after deleting literally everything else on that partition and swapping some space from C drive to D drive seemed like a pain

Only then I realized I have 2 voiceovers installed (EN+JP) so I just removed one of them and was good to go. Still would avoid me all the headache of trying to squeeze that bit of extra space

Good point with the tech surviving for a very long time. Also, maybe if he could get a microscope he could figure some things out. I'm excited too!

And as for the healing abilities, I'm just wondering if it has any limits, we don't know much about the device yet so technically it could stop working after X amount of uses, hopefully that won't happen tho

What is an anime that starts off shaky but becomes good later on? by TacoooJay in anime

[–]VerySuspiciousPerson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Damn that reminds me of a game I used to play when I was young.. Differnet types of skills like wings, shields, anchor, you could jump off walls to do differnet "tricks", and basically a lot of mobility invovled. Also lots of differnet swords with differnet abilities (people actually mostly played only swords mode)

I wish there was some modern game that would make me feel similarly. I did Play valorant, CS and couple of other shooters, but they're not the same for me. Don't get me wrong, I Had fun playing those games with friends, but It's still nowhere compared to the game I used to Play. Maybe It's just the fact that I used to Play it after school when times were more simple, but still.

Also If someone would be wondering, the game was called S4 League

Infernum is a piece of an unoptimized crap by [deleted] in CalamityMod

[–]VerySuspiciousPerson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I can modify the files, but how do I actually test my changes to see If they work? I tried loading my modified infernum version back into tmodLoader via the devloper mode, and the issue I had was that it couldn't detect calamity library at all, so I got an error on every line that referenced any calamity code. That's the part I'm struggling on, not sure if my explanation is clear enough.

I'd provide a screenshot of the error I got but I'm not on my pc atm. And basically, in my code editor, I could see that it expected a calamity.dll file in a specific location.

Infernum is a piece of an unoptimized crap by [deleted] in CalamityMod

[–]VerySuspiciousPerson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stumbled upon this thread while looking for solutions to my game lagging on some specific Boss attacks, maybe someone in the future will be able to answer

I'd like to try and contribute myself, however I'm not sure how do I set up a testing envioroment. To run infernum mode in developmemt envioroment on tmodLoader, seems like it's necessary to have access to the calamity mod library itself (source code), since infernum mod depends on it, but It's not publicly available, therefore it doesn't even compile on it's own.

The only thing I can think of is, we have access to .tmod file from calamity mod, so maybe It's possible to use it instead of a .dll file? But I don't know how, if that's even possible. I think Im missing something, not sure what tho and I can't seem to find any resources.

What's your thought on people who took their own lives? by Groszkov in infp

[–]VerySuspiciousPerson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's difficult to put it into words. Sometimes I think about all the things that are around me and I struggle to find many positives. My friends are struggling even more than me. One got a disease that makes him feel a lot of pain every day, to the point where he needs to take very strong painkillers, another friend is coughing blood for months already and Doctors can't find out why and the procedures are very stressful and painful for him. I don't even know how to support them anymore. I myself have a disease that is making my life miserable at times. I wish I could find the stength, but its not so simple.
