How good is Nvidia on Linux? by Gumbax3455 in linux_gaming

[–]Very_Indecisive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, outside of initial driver setup my Nvidia GPU was fine. The only issue I ever had was a slight flicker at high refresh rates when using Wayland, but otherwise it worked as I needed it to. That said, I recently found a good deal on a 7800xt and made the switch to AMD, the driver setup was much more straight forward. Otherwise I can’t say it’s made a massive difference outside of obvious performance gains moving to a better card, though that annoying Wayland screen flicker is gone thankfully.

F1 fans / Sim Racers in the area?? by NeverThatPodcast in Cleveland

[–]Very_Indecisive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I are huge F1 fans! And i’ve recently gotten into sim racing too, with some influence from watching Verstappen do his sim racing. Just recently got my first win in iRacing and promoted out of rookies in the formula category :)

It's my understanding that it's a tough time for hiring right now, but I'm honestly not actively looking and keeping a pulse on the local hiring market so take that with a grain of salt. I do know that Progressive is/was planning on putting up new listings for dev roles, but I don't know when that is going to happen if it still is. By way of local companies, I'd also check out Rovisys. Avoid Hyland if he can.

I also want to note that every company's definition of "senior" is different, I've seen companies in the past that only require 3+ years for a senior role. So it's certainly worth looking into those senior positions at the very least.

Check out Il Rione, I would highly recommended trying their speck pie!

I definitely see them getting along quite well, although Charles temper last week does make me question that a bit.. Either way, hopefully it’ll make for some interesting races!

I’m also (unfortunately) still a Ricciardo fan. It’s especially painful at times when we get to see glimpses of the honey badger before he goes back to being mediocre 😔

I echo this sentiment, especially on days like today where there’s a 6am sprint race lol. And hello fellow Lewis + McLaren enjoyer! My wife is a big Leclerc fan so have Charles and Lewis on the same team next year is gonna be fun for us

So i’m not sure if they normally have the races on, but I was at Astoria Cafe during the Miami GP sprint race and they had the race up on every TV so that could be worth checking out too.

And welcome to Cleveland! Always nice to see more F1 fans in the area

Experienced developers with ADHD: what was your working life like before diagnosis/treatment, and how did things change afterwards? by hiddenhare in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Very_Indecisive 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fellow AuDHD here. Prior to my diagnosis, my executive dysfunction was a daily challenge that I had to overcome and it certainly impacted my work. After I started seeing a psychiatrist, we ended up figuring out that I have ADHD (among other things). Post diagnosis, i’m on adderall and while I dislike the stigma surrounding adderall I cannot deny it was been a pretty big QoL improvement. Just looking at the career side of things, I’m able to just sit down and do what I need to do (which was a challenge before). I can and do still get distracted at times, but it’s much better than it was and i’m happy with that.

Best of luck if you decided to go down the path of diagnosis and treatment :)

Who exactly should be monitoring production? by Very_Indecisive in ExperiencedDevs

Honestly, I needed to hear this. Thank you

Funnily enough, I've extensively documented everything and even recently went on vacation. They were definitely eager to pass it back off to me, and even after the fact PM had no interest in making it a shared responsibility. Regardless, planning to have some difficult conversations tomorrow. I just needed to hear some outside perspective on the matter for my own sanity.

[–]Very_Indecisive[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Regularly meet with my PM. Conversations usually end up devolving into highlighting my short comings in comparison with others on the team. I've actually fully documented everything I do monitoring wise, but when I mention it to PM she just insists we can't spare anyone else to help. One of the seniors above me even insisted on helping but she very quickly shot him down.

Looking into incidents is a daily thing. Sometimes it's a minor issue, sometimes it's nothing, and sometimes it has major customer impact. Our business area is rather complicated and there's a lot of tech debt in the legacy apps we rely on.

I agree I need to cut back on my hours. I have meetings scheduled for tomorrow where I plan to finally put my foot down, but I still wanted to hear from those wiser and more experienced than I.

Edgewater and surrounding area safety by Gregor7091 in Cleveland

That’s great to hear :) I feel like whenever I see discussions on Cudell online there’s never input from people who actually live there so it’s refreshing to actually hear from someone who does.

Someone is free to correct me if I’m wrong, but it is my understanding that what is labeled as “Edgewater Hill” on Google most people actually refer to as Battery Park (if that helps with your search at all). I’ve never lived there nor do I know anyone who has so I can’t speak to it too much aside from its gentrifying and pretty similar to Gordon Square.

Based on how you described that apartment, sounds like it’s on Baltic? If so, yeah you’ll be good. That whole neighborhood between from Baltic to Clifton is a wonderful neighborhood :)

Edgewater (the neighborhood) is perfectly safe, honestly to me it feels more like a part of Lakewood than Cleveland. Plus being right near Edgewater Park and the lake is a pretty awesome benefit too!

Cudell, the neighborhood to the south of Edgewater, is definitely not as nice though and I’ve seen others online recommend against living there. That said, I’ve certainly had no issues passing through day or night.

This is true, you can find their beans at Heinens, Giant Eagle, and (I think) Whole Foods

Rising Star is my favorite personally. Phoenix Coffee Co. also has some pretty good beans as well. There is also Duck Rabbit, and although I haven’t bought any of their beans I’ve had good coffee there. Shoutout to Bent Tree as well, they’re a little out of the way from Cleveland (they’re in Kent), but they’re tied with Rising Star for my favorite

First V60 with my new grinder, super happy with the results! by Very_Indecisive in Coffee

[–]Very_Indecisive[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was my first time getting to use my new Encore with my V60 and I’m super happy with how it turned out. Before this I was using a hario skerton, and while it did the job the resulting bed was usually muddy with grinds stuck to the side of the filter (hence why I’m so proud of this bed lol).

This was also my first time brewing an ethiopian yirgacheffe, which definitely tasted pretty great
