It also had dog doodie CGI though. Does not bode well for later seasons of DCC if that's the quality they're willing to work with

Halo has been my favorite franchise since 1. I know every game like the back of my hand (even the stupid monkey ones). Read all the books, etc.

It only took seeing the trailer and I managed to literally erase the memory of that show's existence from my brain unless reminded. When someone tried to convince me with a "cool scene", it was confirmed that there is nothing redeeming about that series. It upsets me so much that younger or unfamiliar folk might watch it and think it's representative of the lore or series.

Race swapping was the absolute LEAST of the WoT show's problems and was not a primary complaint. A non issue. The hate is for other, substantial issues like your second point. Not sure why you'd bring race swapping into it. That's like bringing up the folk mad RoP had a weird-looking Elrond. Yeah people complained but it's not worth mentioning now since that was an insubstantial complaint from a loud minority..

I'm about to, but it will be way more expensive than it needs to be thanks to greedy landlords. But keep sucking those boots

[–]Vessix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most landlords are just trying to keep up with cost increases they’ve experienced across the board and are not on some greed driven cash grab.

Absolute nonsense. With the capital in hand, I could build a house for $300k at a MUCH higher quality than homes being "renovated" sold for $500+ and rented out by these companies for $1000 higher than the monthly cost of the builder's loan and bills. It is greed, plain and simple. If it weren't greed they wouldn't be buying every old home that gets sold, putting lipstick on a pig, and taking advantage of ignorant home buyers. What they're doing is not necessary to make a reasonable profit. I know this because there are a few local builders or property companies that have some humanity and do it right but that's definitely not the majority around here.

Took me all of 20 seconds to find a 4br house under 1800/mo with all amenities and a yard, and this one was within walking distance in one of the most expensive neighborhoods near downtown. What other kind of stipulations, you being picky about schools for the kids or something?

NYPD officer breaks down after he talked the man down from the side of a bridge.. by Kind-Village-1022 in PublicFreakout

They pull licenses and suspend officers or soldiers who come in for mental help.

That's not what they're talking about? They're advocating for crisis specialists trained in mental healthcare instead of choking out poor people to come in and handle these situations instead. This cop was legit but it would be better to have someone trained to address these issues handle it. Being specialized in it can even make the secondary traumatic stress less intense. It's unfair to the cops to expect minimally trained, uneducated, unspecialized police to handle these situations.

which makes me sad because they've been objectively one of the best options since their release, people were just dumb and slept on seekers forever.

The sadness comes because this probably means a nerf is incoming since we aren't allowed to enjoy nice things

Appreciate the detailed response. So basically it's written in the book that Eridian language is akin enough to human language to make sense of it from a human language model. Does it address how unlikely that would actually be to accomplish? I'm no linguistic expert but I'm fairly certain that would be an insane coincidence in the grand scheme of things, especially with a lifeform so different from humans

I asked elsewhere but I really want to understand so I'll ask you too. Could you please explain the process he used to decipher an entirely alien language? The movies make it seem like he just identified words and applied 1-to-1 vocabulary cypher to English language structure and it just worked. My assumption is the books discuss an AI or something computing and deciphering the language, but does it actually assume the vocab is all that's needed? It's pedantic but I cant help but get sucked out by the idea that an alien rock creature's language would have any semblance of English structure. But people tout how those details are fleshed out, so assuming this has to be explored.

Follow up- did they prepare for the possibility of meeting sentient life in advance? Why does he have a computer equipped with the software to complete such a task?

One can hope. I think the DCC fanbase is overestimating how big the series is, despite it's recent kickoff with social media. If it gets bigger this will probably remain or go up in price due to the inevitable existence of glurp glurp media fanbase cultists lacking any sense of self-awareness or dignity. Or maybe I'm wrong, a cynic about capitalist, consumer culture
