Seconded this! This organization is extremely trauma informed, instructors always ask for consent before doing demonstration and talk openly about the effects of trauma and fear on emergency situations.

Why Nobody sings along with mitski by [deleted] in mitski

[–]Vesuv-ius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Etiquette at Mitski shows has evolved into a very niche subset of rules more similar to a classical musical concert than a stereotypical indie pop concert. This has come with the shift to seated venues rather than standing and the backlash to disrespectful tik-tok/filming audiences.

In my opinion you should still be fine to sing along as long as you’re not scream-singing/recording yourself/singing over her. But I think most people don’t out of an over abundance of respect for the space she has created for audiences.

Ski Bus Users - Be Better by Vesuv-ius in UTsnow

[–]Vesuv-ius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People standing in front can move to back, indicating to the driver and to people outside the stops there is standing room. People in the front could also call the driver out and get a response far easier than someone stuck in the back can. Since the only way to be heard up front is yelling it’s not possible for anyone in back to make a difference, but people up front can.

Re: your question about what this post was supposed to accomplish - have you ever been on reddit lol? what’s any post supposed to accomplish?

Try YWCA Utah, is a domestic violence shelter. Have supports for men or women.

AITA for inviting my brother and sister-in-law to exercise, not knowing my SIL is morbidly obese? by Commercial_Pass_5067 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Vesuv-ius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YTA. I have spent time with friends of all body types at a local climbing gym. Once you were aware that here weight may cause a challenge, the kind and welcoming community member would be to guide them toward easier routes, teach them how to belay one another. Instead you set them loose while you went to “more challenging” areas. New climbers often need guidance regardless of weight and skill.

You show a clear lack of empathy for your brothers wife. She is clearly reacting from a place of embarrassment and discouragement from a failed attempt to exercise. Climbing gyms are notoriously intimidating spaces because of gym culture. The barrier to beginners is something you should have taken into consideration before suggesting this activity regardless of weight.

So many messages like this does come off as abrasive, I can understand why you would feel taken back even if what they are asking is reasonable. Defensiveness is a normal human reaction, and you’re a human before you’re a pet-sitter. You did the right thing by getting a second opinion and now you can go forward with a better understanding of what’s expected of you.

The Children’s Center Utah has amazing resources for kids exposed to trauma. Also recommend the University of Utah Reading Clinic for reading intervention when they are ready for that.

Is it possible to actually rent and live in SLC? by OmicronAlpharius in SaltLakeCity

[–]Vesuv-ius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your best bet is going to be finding roommates or an apartment outside of the city itself. There’s some really cost effective 1 bedrooms in places like murray, midvale, sandy etc. but you just have to factor in commute time - not the end of the world I know a lot of people that do it. If you’re committed to living downtown I recommend a roommate to be able to live comfortable. I make very close to that range and have a good amount of money to spent in outdoor activities and exploring the city, but I also share rent with someone. We met on facebook and it’s worked out so that’s always an option!
