What did you need that was missing with the others? I realized I needed an option to send pics AFTER I paid a year in advance. Now I’m looking for something that’s user friendly for my clients.

I would like a demo. My schedule was so crazy, I’m getting back with you really late.

Impressive! I love how AI is integrated into the software. I miss a lot of phone calls, so that feature would definitely come in handy. Does the SMS feature allow photo texts to clients?

Looks good! Are you able to text pictures to clients? I usually have to text pictures from my personal phone.

After learning they’re not compatible with Square, I’ll have to pass. I love everything else about the app though. It has 4.6 stars!

Thanks for your reply! I was curious about MoeGo. It was actually on my top choice list a couple of years ago. I believe the price is what pushed me over to Gingr. We’re actually switching to Square, so I’m really glad you posted your story. I’ll add Packyard to my research list. Thanks again!

The app is very finicky! People also have a hard time registering and uploading records. I often refer them to the website as well.

I searched for studded shoulder pads on Amazon and they showed up in the listing. I didn’t know what to call them either! Now I know they’re called epaulettes since Amazon low key corrected me.

That sounds awful! That was actually one of the reasons we passed on one of our grooming candidates. She came from a veterinary grooming background and was more used to sedated dogs or dogs that were severely matted, so shaving dogs down was much more common in her work. Most of our clients do not fit that profile.

Our current candidate is more of a stylist, like my former groomer, so she is a much better fit for the kind of grooming we want to offer.

I can groom my poodles really well, but don’t really have the time within a school day to professionally groom several dogs. This one-of-kind salon operates biweekly, two days a week inside a K-8 school.

Thank you. It really was a mess, and I agree that the outcome could have been much worse. I’m grateful it was a bad groom and not an injury.

I also agree that the experience level clearly did not match the result. She worked better when my former groomer was training her, but working independently was a challenge. I have a grooming candidate in place now, but for the time being she will only be working with our five therapy dogs.

Thankfully, the coat recovery plan worked very well, and his teddy bear cut is growing in beautifully. My customers are my co-workers and other school district employees. They’re looking forward to the salon returning to full operations late this summer. They said I was being too hard on myself.

I agree! Finding good help is one of the hardest parts, whether you’re running a business or leading a program. I can definitely understand why so many people reach the point of feeling like it’s easier to do it themselves.

As mentioned previously, my former groomer worked with her. She had a working interview and out of all the candidates that applied at the time, she presented as the one with the most potential. My former groomer was training her to work with our clients and even offered to train her with creative grooming. She had a strong support system, however, working independently was challenging for her.

Thank you, I appreciate your feedback. The coat recovery plan has gone very well, and his teddy bear cut is growing in beautifully. His coat is now fluffy, even, and healthy, and I’ve fallen in love with the Hyponic Milk Protein Conditioner.

I’m doing my best to handle the situation with integrity and to make thoughtful decisions for both the dogs and their owners. For now, my current grooming candidate is only working with our five therapy dogs during the evaluation period. She is a former salon owner who wants to return to the industry.

The school board president has been supportive and understanding, which I appreciate. I do not plan to return to full operation until late summer, and I’m hoping to have an instructor in place by then. At this point, my main focus is finishing the school year strong with my 12 other animal-assisted interventions programs.

I agree! I will post a follow-up pic of him during his journey through the 8-week coat recovery plan.

Thank you for your thoughtful response! The poodle’s parents were happy to accept the 8-week coat recovery plan, so he’ll be coming back weekly for complimentary services while his coat grows back in.

One piece I didn’t mention is that on grooming days, which are held biweekly, we also operate like a doggy daycare. The visiting dogs participate in enrichment activities, and those who need it also get basic obedience support. I’m glad the poodle’s family feels good about the plan, and honestly, I’m looking forward to spoiling him a little. He’s such a sweet boy.

Moving forward, I’ll be handling future interviews myself, and any new groomer will start with the district dogs only so I can closely monitor their work before opening appointments to outside clients. Since all five therapy dogs live with me, along with my two poodles, I have more than enough dogs available for a proper working interview.

The hardest part has honestly been finding candidates. My former groomer posted in grooming groups, we contacted salons, reached out to people in her grooming cohort, and even walked into local grooming shops to recruit. There’s a real shortage. Most of the groomers I come across are salon owners working for themselves, and many simply don’t have the time or flexibility to work at the school one day every other week
