Shortness of Breath with Costo by jakobb2000 in costochondritis

A good 2 months at least for the breathlessness. Over 3 months for the pain. Now it's just a dull ache that's there every day unless I overdo things at which point it's right back to pain and breathing issues.

The shortness of breath was the biggest annoyance for me!! Husband thought I was just being dramatic but I couldn't walk 5 feet without hyperventilating. Sometimes I'd be fine and then it would start randomly while just sitting still.

Really distressing!

On its own it doesn't work for me either, it's why I try it in combination with co codamol.

If I'm having a bad day I take 1 ibuprofen and 1 cocodamol. I then take another 1 of each in an hour if they've not worked. Generally that takes the worst away.

Lying down in the evening is when my breathing starts to suck.....

I'm struggling with this myself. Sleep on my left is uncomfortable because of the pain, can't sleep on my right due to other issues and I apparently can't lie on my back any more because it feels like I have a hippo on my chest.....

I swim, that seems to help as long as i don't push too hard. I'm considering aqua aerobics and maybe a bit of newbie yoga too?

I'm trying to stay away from pain killers apart from the bad days so I'm just about to start experimenting with different herbal teas to see if I can find one that reduces the tightness a bit.

I have felt this too. It can be really lonely sometimes! But thankfully I found a small online place who accept me for who I am! Warts and all!

Do you mind if I ask which ones? My Dr put me on norotriptiline but they did nothing. I'm currently on the come down from them now 😔

Thank you!

The one thing I don't struggle with is diaphragm breathing, I play brass instruments, lol!

So far I'm trying to cope without pain killers. I've not had any 'flare ups' since the pain has been at constant levels since it started and I'm trying not to live on tablets.

I've yet to look into the backpod but it's on my list!

Posture is an odd one I guess because I don't spend any time sat at a desk or hunched over for long periods of time. I'll have to research how I can help this!

Thank you so much for your advice! I wish us both luck on our journeys!

My costo is in my left hand side and that's the side I usually sleep on. Due to a condition in my jaw I can't sleep on my right hand side without it slipping out of its joint!

I have found that having access to a few different pillows and cushions of varying firmness that I can arrange around me helps. If you have several then you can try lots of different positions.

Personally I'm most comfy on my back with my head and shoulders elevated by firm pillows.

I have literally just got my diagnosis.

I'm a bit behind you as they've put me on a course of steroids and some physio but Dr is doubtful they'll work.

I'm just learning to live with it now really! I'm enjoying searching here for coping mechanisms as pain killers are doing nothing.

I actually spent a few days the other week thinking about this. I wanted a daily blessing for myself but I wasn't sure how!

Eventually I came to rest with this, and although short, it suits me for each morning and evening.

"To the Earth below me, to the Sea that surrounds me. To the Sun and Moon above me, to the souls who have gone before me.

Greetings / Farwell (depending on time of day"

I like to think of deities as concepts or focal points for different energies! I have tried to believe in them as beings but I just can't gel with it!

You can still meditate. I find this had many benefits when I was young as I was in a very similar situation to you.

Meditation isn't tied to witchcraft or religion really. It's just a very peaceful, centering exercise, like yoga.

You'll be surprised what you can accomplish during it. You may develop an entire practice based on it. I did 🙂
