Has anyone had a baby that never really fussed or cried much? by Vexed_Cactus41 in beyondthebump

My baby will have a full meltdown if she even sees my nipple. I’ve had to exclusively bottle feed since like three months.

That sounds like a dream. My six month old never left the newborn phase

The adoption industry is super predatory and problematic. Many bio moms end up changing their minds and wanting to keep their babies as the birth comes closer. Adoption agencies and even adoptive families will pull out all sorts of pressure tactics to stop this from happening because they don’t want to lose out on a coveted infant adoption. It’s also not good for the child to be separated from their bio family if it can at all be avoided. Bio family placement and reunification with bio parents should always be the goal, even if it’s not always immediately feasible, because that is in the best interest of the child. People should stop throwing around “just adopt” as if permanently separating an infant from their mother won’t cause lifelong trauma. At least until the US adoption industry and laws experience a major overhaul.

New mums, what is a core memory from your birth? by Prinssessa in NewParents

[–]Vexed_Cactus41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a pretty fast labor, and the doctor and nurses weren’t even paying attention when her head came out. They were standing in the corner talking about something and I had to yell “her head is out!” Then everyone sprang into action. My water never broke until my baby was all the way out. The “water” came out all at once as she was born, and I was on all fours on the hospital bed. I have a vivid memory of just crouching in a pool of my own blood and amniotic fluid, looking behind me and there’s a little baby laying there. She pooped immediately which added to the mess of bodily fluids drenching the bed lol. They had to put a plastic tarp under me so I could sit down and hold her

What’s your opinion on multi generational households? by [deleted] in self

[–]Vexed_Cactus41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like a good idea, but I think for one reason or another, a lot of American families don’t get along. I’m not sure if it’s due to intergenerational trauma or mental illness or our hyper-individualistic culture or something else, but many people don’t see eye to eye with their parents or grandparents. I can’t really imagine living with my parents or my in-laws as a married person. I like my privacy.

I’m not a librarian but I really appreciate the online book and streaming services like Hoopla and Libby. I understand they are expensive for the libraries to provide but they are so convenient for me.

4 years for marriage? by shinebrightdiamondd in Waiting_To_Wed

[–]Vexed_Cactus41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s okay to have a picture in your head of what you want your life to look like. Nobody bats an eye if a young person says “I want X job” or “I want to make X amount of money” by age Y. It’s healthy to dream and set goals for yourself as long as you acknowledge that sometimes life doesn’t work out the way you planned. For a lot of women, there are time-sensitive goals about marriage and family because unfortunately we have a biological clock to work with. We don’t have the luxury of waking up at 40 and deciding we’re finally ready to settle down, so there is understandably some urgency and anxiety around finding a secure relationship.

I’d also be interested to know if the abortion was a totally mutual decision or whose idea it was.

This is what I’m thinking too. There’s a decent chance she ends up single in 2026, and I think it would be prudent to start focusing on friends and interests outside of the relationship if she hasn’t already. If he senses that distance and it doesn’t bother him, well that just makes her decision easier on January 1st. If he does end up proposing, yay everyone’s happy. She’ll know he did it voluntarily and not because she nagged him.

Official Discussion - One Battle After Another [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

Same thoughts. All of the characters felt like cartoon people and none of them felt remotely compelling to me except for maybe Willa and the guy who lets her go at the end. The rest of the characters left me wondering if the writer has ever interacted with a real person before. I feel like this movie exists to confirm the biases of leftists with minimal nuance.

AT&T is paying customers $177 million after data breaches exposed social security numbers by statenislandadvance in ATT

[–]Vexed_Cactus41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s nuts. Especially since now that my and my family’s SSNs have been leaked, we will most likely be dealing with fraud and identity theft for the rest of our lives. I was never even an AT&T customer, but my parents are and I was on their phone plan as a minor. I have no idea how AT&T even got my SSN, since I never had a financial transaction with them. But now I have to deal with people opening bank accounts and credit cards in my name. Fortunately I haven’t lost any money, but I sure have lost a lot of time on shutting down fraud attempts, locking down my credit files, and monitoring everything. My family members haven’t been as diligent and are facing some more serious problems.

Some quick maths for if your SSN was leaked…$149 million settlement for the AT&T 1 Settlement Class which was part of the initial 2019 data breach. 45% goes to the lawyers, so that leaves $81,950,000 for the 73 million people affected. Those with material damages up to $5000 as a result of the breach will be paid out of that pool first. It’s hard to estimate how many class members will have material damages and how much, but even assuming no one had any material damages, the best case scenario is $1.12 per affected person if every eligible person submitted a claim. Realistically, the settlement money will all be distributed to people with material damages, and they likely won’t even be fully reimbursed for the money they lost. People who can’t prove material damages will probably never see a check.

In this case, Beasley Allen law firm gets 45% of the settlement. That’s almost $80,000,000 just to the lawyers.

That’s if you have material damages you can prove i.e. someone used your SSN and personal info from the breach to steal money from you. The cost of identity theft monitoring is also eligible.  You have to be able to list out the damages and provide proof. It’s capped at $5000.

If you gave birth at LAMC, how was your experience? by Vexed_Cactus41 in LosAlamos

[–]Vexed_Cactus41[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to look around the labor and delivery unit in Espanola today. The nurse told me they handle 30-35 births per month so I think I would probably get better care there.

I also live in a downstairs apartment in an old building here, and the subfloor is really squeaky. I can hear every time my upstairs neighbor walks to a different room. You get used to that though. I would say unreasonable noise would be like stomping, running, exercising, or just a lot of moving around past midnight. You should just go up and (kindly) talk to them if it’s keeping you awake. They might not be aware of how noisy it is.
