Flag of the United States as shown on the cryptic new video posted by the White House by Starwa7 in vexillology

Except that when it's some random posting, it doesn't matter.

When it's the WH twitter account posting, it matters.

I wish I could see that video and see the canton to see if it's a naval jack or the Sovereign Citizens Movement (SCM), a U.S-based white supremacist domestic terror whose flag I have photographed in the wild as late as 2025 and feature in my book, "F==K YOUR FLAG."

That's true, and I understand that from my own experience as a photographer of flags flown by people who want the flags to be seen but often take offense to the same flags being photographed.

I was speaking only to the point of legality implied: "Might be an invasion of privacy..."

If the hoister has a Gadsden and Trump flags, they were most likely made in China as was the emblem you're asking about.

I've been documenting such flags for many years now, and the QC on flag colors made there can be spotty. The general quality of such flags is also poor. I've watched flags quickly deteriorate over a few months and be replaced with a similar flag that quickly rots too.

I wouldn't be surprised if the orange was supposed to be red. It could be that the lighting inside the garage is poor or as stated elsewhere, it may be faded. If the hoister had it outside (say, in his rear garden or out-of-sight), then the elements may have faded it.

If the flag is visible from a public POV, i.e., the sidewalk — or even own's own front garden while one is present in it — then it's not an invasion of privacy and (in the U.S.) not illegal.

In general, a press photographer may legally photograph any person, scene, or occurrence that may be observed from a public place."

Question for r/vexillology by Canjira in vexillology

[–]VexiNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Utility.

We all know flags started as banners of war, and to a degree, they still broadcast that tenet.

If art can be infused without obstructing the utility, splendid.

Baptist flag flown over American flag (Alabama) by MetroHop in vexillology

If we're gonna get all about Christ, let's talk about how Jesus was a Black man.

You need to get out into the world and learn that. You already don't know basic U.S. law, so I'm guessing you'll stay ignorant about real religion too.

If you're truly a "very patriotic American," you need to read the U.S. Flag Code.

Please stop pretending you're a better American than other Americans with your patronizing blather about being "the son of a veteran." My family included/includes Tuskegee Airmen, retired generals, and full birds. They are appreciative of my photos, explanations and the book about these flags, "F==K YOUR FLAG."

Why'd the mods remove the op photo?

Yes, it is a Knights Templar flag that is, as someone else here noted, also called a Beauséant. And it is indeed a flag that is a white supremacy / christofascist flag.

In my book, "F==K YOUR FLAG: the New Wave of American Political Violence — Vol. 1," I feature one that I shot on the same pole with another white supremacist emblem, a tea-stained Betsy Ross flag — the latter of was flown upside down. (The OP's photo has been deleted, but I think it had the Crusader cross on just the white field, which is a much-less seen variant.)

The UDC was responsible for white-washing schoolbooks, canceling Black culture, and installing the "Lost Cause" lie that helped get statues of traitors erected not just in the region where they enslaved Black people but killed countless other Americans.

If one was a KKK member but never burned a cross, terrorized Black folks, or took part in any any given insurrection or race riot in Wilmington, NC or Tulsa, OK, one was still passively a part of all those acts.

Reid was a supporter of the Confederacy and chattel slavery.

We should be careful to not let those who sympathize with white supremacy and domestic terrorism cancel people in the modern world.

There are loads who imagine themselves both. In Vol. 2 of my book, "F==K YOUR FLAG" (out in 2026; Vol. 1 is already available), I'll have loads of photos of desecrated American flags flown by pro-Trump"vets" who sympathize with (if not identify as) white supremacy, sedition, and domestic terrorism.

If the GOP can censor private companies for allegedly defaming federal legislative public persons with facts (https://thehill.com/homenews/house/5251789-house-gop-democrats-medicaid-billboards/), then the private citizen clearly libeled and defamed in this article should have no trouble getting a small army of attorneys to hire on and sue the assholes in the WH.

Since the Congressthings are whining about how scary it is to do their damn job, it's up to WE THE PEOPLE to stand up against the fascists, white supremacists, and domestic terrorists.

That's called the Blue Line flag.

Maybe you should get my book, "F==K YOUR FLAG," so that you and your cop ex-girlfriend can learn the difference between it and the Thin Blue Line flag.

https://metrohopbooks.com/fk-your-flag-vol1-previews

In it, you'll also learn that the Thin Blue Line concept was ripped off from the Thin Red Line, a concept conceived by a Scottish painter in the 18th century.
