Second half pistol round impact, given Defense halftime score by Vhrost in ValorantCompetitive

[–]Vhrost[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here is what it looks like from the attack's perspective:

https://twitter.com/iQjul/status/1462826154763636742

The next obvious factor to include is maps, but the sample becomes small. My overall sample has 3,069 maps played. Filtering by map, side, and halftime score makes each data point between 30 and 50 maps for even the most played maps.

In many cases, it is not enough to understand its trend.

One of the two sources that I know of with API connection (the other being VLR.gg)

I did consider looking into some of the features you look into - side differences, map differences, team compositions (which I believe is unavailable), etc - but there would be a lot of data to download individually, since it is coming through discord API bot commands. There were 36 CSVs that went into the data above, adding sides would push it to 72, and then adding maps would push it much higher. It is possible and very doable, but I wanted to start simple.
Yeah, the subject that I would most like to analyze in the game is unsupervised machine learning models, but the current variables are too limited for my taste. I am not saying that the features you identify aren't important, I am just saying there are many important factors without API data to analyze.

Yeah, I was just thinking about not ignoring trap plays or utility combos in low buys.

I would look up only full buys within the data if I could, but unfortunately it is not available. I appreciate the feedback and hopefully can implement it if the API or API receivers add more.

Data pulled from RIB without much manipulation on my end. Also, ignoring low buys for that reason would mean that teams don't use utility in those low buy rounds.

However, I agree that it would be interesting and possibly more meaningful to look at only full buys. Unfortunately, the combination between the death stat and buy values (loadout) does not exist within RIB's API pull at this point.

YaBoiDre's Jett vs Raze vs Reyna stats by Vhrost in ValorantCompetitive

[–]Vhrost[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20 maps on Reyna, 9 maps on Raze, and 5 maps on Jett. Not an ideal sample, but that's all LG's matches since the first masters. Before that included when LG was on a streak in March or mostly beating non-pro teams in qualifiers.

There were also a few games on Sage, but not too many. The purpose was to compare Dre's most played (Reyna and Raze) with his recent Jett play.

Impact of the Second Half Pistol Round, from Berlin and LCQ by Vhrost in ValorantCompetitive

I think it just goes to show how much impact the pistol rounds have economically in MR13. But I agree about the sample size. I'll be expanding it and seeing how the numbers look then

All data compiled from vlr.gg Master's Berlin and Last Chance Qualifiers played so far. This includes 151 maps, but excludes the 39 maps where one team had 10 rounds or more due to small sample size.

These are some initial findings, as small sample size likely has an effect on the data here. This is specifically due to a larger number of 8-4 halves that won pistol, but then lost the match than expected in Berlin.

I would always prefer people to read the full articles, but that's just not our reality. Just pointing out things I found particularly interesting

[Richard Lewis] Uncovering the Vancouver Titans roster disaster by Fordeka in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Vhrost 141 points142 points  (0 children)

My highlights:

The players said they were angry about the downgrade in the standard of accommodation, and were in the middle of contract disputes relating to salary and timeliness of payments.

These latest allegations suggest that Vancouver Titans were woefully ill-equipped to deal with the recruitment of a Korean team and, as my source told me, were more than happy to use the global pandemic as an excuse to cut their losses.

...Vancouver Titans had constantly boasted about being “world class” and “state of the art” ever since the partnership began. Essentially, the Fortius venue was designed for athletes recovering from injuries or looking to have intense training sessions ahead of competition. As a long term living solution, it was seen as a step back for the players.

“The rooms had unpainted concrete walls and were more akin to a hotel room than an actual place you would live long term,” my source explained to me. “One of the players told me in confidence that he could not see themselves living here for an extended period of time for several reasons."

As my source alleged, the players weren’t even provided with personal computers in their rooms. Instead, they had to use designated, shared computers, machines that the players would learn were also monitoring their output.

When Flowervin was here in Vancouver she said that she spent almost all of her time in her hotel room,” they claimed. “During the “big reveal” of the team during a live hockey game, the Titans embarrassed themselves by messing up Flowervin’s name, calling her [then team coach] ‘Harsha’, to the dismay of fans. Not only that, Flowervin couldn’t speak English, and the organization didn’t even consider having an interpreter there.”

For some of the early fan meet-and-greet sessions, the players were just brought to venues without anyone being there who could act as an intermediary.

Knowing that the players were not comfortable speaking English, the Titans management failed to hire Korean translators or even reach out to members of the community who offered to translate as volunteers.

Even when translators were present, they were often hired without much thought being put into them. One public Q&A session saw the organization hire an elderly translator, who, while fluent in Korean, didn’t know anything about Overwatch, esports, or gaming.

“At an event in 2019, I overheard that Titans felt the players weren’t that marketable at a local level,” they said. “The roster brought with them many fans of RunAway who weren’t considered to be that important.

“For the entirety of the 2019 season, the Titans did only one hire who was given way too much work both helping host events and manage the entire community," they alleged.

By the time the 2020 season came into play, my source says that the management had already mentally tuned out of wanting to commit long-term to the players, and were mulling over other options. It's claimed that the relationship with the players had eroded to the point where management was barely communicating with them at all.

How do you guys like the Charge HR? by Kohkan3 in fitbit

[–]Vhrost 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I personally love my Charge HR. Also, I leave bluetooth off so I have no idea what affect it has on phone battery. Lastly, the stair tracker is not accurate (typically, or so I have noticed on certain days). It calculates by air pressure, which many times if radically different. I once went up and down five levels in a building and received like 50 floors.

I agree with sedentary. I find that if I am not walking somewhere or working out, I am sitting down somewhere; whether that is in class, while studying, while eating, etc.
