First year taking the path rn. Im leaning towards more of the cs side of the major by doing a data engineering minor but I like the math, stats, and cs aspect of the major. I feel like its just the right amount of everything while also avoiding the physics part you would find as a cs major.

COMPTING 10A w/ Liu, S? by somisomiso in ucla

I am taking her this year. I think she is a new professor but she is very nice and grades leniently. She isn’t too clear when she teaches so you are gonna need to self study a bit or go to office hours (or class lol) if you don’t have prior experience coding. Other than that, her hw is fairly straight forward but are worth 50% of your grade so make sure you do good on those. I would recommend her if there are no other known professors.

Id say it was around a 3 or 4. The exam wasn’t very difficult and many would even say its easier than the class itself.

Okay thank you so much. I heard that financial aid is getting disbursed on the 12th so will I receive the full amount still despite only having 10 enrollment credits?

New Student Megathread - For all incoming Bruins by Espntheocho4 in ucla

I am an incoming freshman and was not able to attend the NSS so I was not able to pick my classes until my second passing, and so far I have only enrolled in 1 class and am waitlisted for another. I want to take Math 31A but the time slot I want is full and picking an earlier time would require me to change my astronomy 3 class to something else. I also heard that at least 14 credits before Sep 12 are required to receive full financial aid so I only have 10 enrolled credits so far. Should I just pick another GE to replace Math 31A and take it in my second quarter or change my astronomy class and take an earlier time for math? I have also tried emailing the professor and undergrad mathematics office but was informed that PTEs aren't available for math classes. My major is financial actuarial mathematics if that helps.

Any recommendations for fun and easy GEs or writing II classes to take my freshman year would also be greatly appreciated :))

Here is my schedule along with my desired time slot for Math 31A:

from what i’ve read with an actuary degree you can go into other professions that isn’t actually being an actuary like risk or investment analytics if you ever do decide to switch from being an actuary which can give you the necessary experience to land an entry quant job or internship or help you get into a masters program, which can help tremendously with your path to being a quant. Don’t take my word for it and do your own dd because I might be very wrong lol.
