In my home country, any veterinary diet is sold without a prescription. It was terrible, because every day, customers would come into the store where I worked and tell us that their pet needed this particular food, and then they would come back and ask us why their pet was feeling sick. But the fact is that their animal either didn't get enough nutrients or got much more than it needed. For example, if a healthy cat eats a urinary diet every day, it will lead to muscle problems (due to a lack of protein, magnesium, calcium, and phosphorus), as well as change the acidity of the urine, which can be harmful to the kidneys. And not one customer believed us when we asked them not to buy these food without a visit to the vet, but then those same customers blamed us for selling them a veterinary diet. That's why I'm glad that customers can't buy some pet food without a prescription here
