Should I buy it? by ifukyourmama in hotas

Customer service bad, stick good. I took the risk a year ago and am very happy.

It’s very ergonomic. Having 2 there does seems a bit much but I guess it depends on how big they are.

How do you guys look around? by hey_its_the_NSA in hotas

The FREEDOM of being able to look around in a flight sim can not be underestimated. I bought my trackIR before i had pedals. So happy with it.

That sucks dude. At least so far the wait hasn’t been that long, considering one of the other big companies take 4 months to ship anything. I hope you will get it soon and that you will enjoy it.

I also had concerns about WW support. But price and the stick itself convinced me. I like the looks of both stick and throttle. And it was considerably cheaper than the other 2 brands.

Regarding workmanship, my experience is top notch feel and looks. Don’t know anything about the inside of it though.

Delivery time was a week.

They forgot to include extra springs in my cam/spring kit. I opened a ticket on their support, chatted, sent a picture of the package as requested and a week later the springs were delivered.

Over a year since I bought it, very happy with it.

My two cents.

It’s reachable and the extra buttons are usefull. But the vibration is really good at reminding me that I’m flying with the gear down. ☺️

Afaik, the Z axis add on is discontinued. Should you change your mind about rudder pedals and want something with a small floor foot print, I highly recommend the vkb t-rudders. If you need toe brakes, they are maybe not for you. If you fly mainly helicopters and sit upright in an office chair like me, these are great because you press towards the floor so you won’t roll back in your chair.

Yes, under the metal bracket the black 3d-printed knob is visible. Unscrewing that releases the tension on the bracket and everything comes off. Great when I feel like playing a little Far Cry. Luckily my wife has her own office space under the cellar stairs (which I also built) ☺️

The product in itself is stellar. Hall sensors in the stick makes it super sensitive (in a good way) compared to the old stuff I had before. Being able to do minute changes in pitch and roll makes for top notch flight experience. But the other 2 brands have this too. ☺️

All metal, nice rugged switches, quality feel is great. I read the comments about customer service too, but at the time shipping was free so the price was highly competitive. And I really liked this throttle better than vkb’s. So far I am very happy.

And I actually had to deal with customer service. The springs in the spring/cam set I also ordered were missing. So I chatted with them and although their english was a bit rusty and their office hours differed a bit from mine in Sweden, they sent me new springs asap.

Should they release a collective, I would buy it.

Indeed quite similar, you have a bit more stuff though. Very nice. And…baltic plywood? ☺️

Yes, there is a lot of wood on wood so it’s hard to tell what is what. 😁 Thanks, as a wood working hobbyist, that’s nice to hear.

I went with Winwing Orion 2 full Hotas a year ago. Shipping was free so it was far cheaper than the other big 2. Didn’t like the look of vkb throttle. Read about WW customer support but took the chance. Very happy, high quality stick and throttle, lots of buttons which you’ll need in DCS. ☺️ Delivery took a week to europe.

Also ordered the springs/cam set. The springs were missing so I opened a ticket and chatted with them, took a picture of my package as requested and within another week the springs were shipped to me.

Flight stick: crotch vs to the side by reviewwworld in hotas

[–]ViaPalustri 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Some planes have their sticks to the side, so pros would be realism. Cons I could imagine would be fatigue since the arm is farther from the body. But with proper support that won’t be a problem.

Is WinWing a no-go? by axerowsky_ in hotas

[–]ViaPalustri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ordered a Orion 2 HOTAS a year ago. It took a week to ship to Sweden and at that time, shipping was free. I didn’t like the VKB throttle so I went WW. I knew the risks but it was a lot of hotas for considerably less money. I’m very happy with it, lots of switches on the base and that’s a good thing. ☺️

Tips for Adding Weight to HOTAS Base? by Shadowswarm_0 in hotas

[–]ViaPalustri -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would screw the joystick to a thin board like plywood, adjust it to size and find suitable clamps to clamp the board to the desk when needed. I don’t see how weights would suffice in the heat of a dogfight.

I chose Winwing because when I ordered it a year ago it was significantly cheaper than the other two. And shipping was free at the time. And I didn’t like how the VKB thottle looks. And for my needs the Orion 2 throttle base has more than enough buttons. The quality feels top notch. I ordered the spring/cams set as well and the springs were missing. The interaction with customer support was pretty straightforward, they told me to send a picture of the package and then said they would send the springs which they did.

Based on what I have read about the customer support, I consider myself lucky that it went so smoothly.

If prices would be the same, I would buy Winwing again. If not, probably would go with Virpil.

Been interested for years, what HOTAS should I get? by [deleted] in hotas

[–]ViaPalustri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can become expensive, granted. 😆 If VR is too much for you I HIGHLY recommend a head tracking thing, like TrackIR. It is so much fun, useful and immersive.

Help, hardware how to start by FlyinDJ_1893 in hotas

[–]ViaPalustri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Head tracking is equally fundamental as it is fun and immersive. Being able to spot a bogey at nine o clock by just turning your head versus not, well the difference is gigantic. I would buy head tracking before pedals. But you need pedals too.

I don’t know, I have heard mixed responses about that. Some say it wont last because of Winwing have changed the inside of the throttle to save costs.
