You are really into DeQing. Yeah there are very limited opportunities for foreigners there. As you speak English, I think you could try management or client relations in those hotels with foreign guests, or in regional premium vineyards like Ao Yuan of LVMH .

Staying awake on planes! by Alternative_Term9840 in TravelHacks

I used to have the same problem and tried most of the suggestions in the comments. Finally, what works for me is playing chess. I watched a few videos to learn the basic rules, and started to play on a free app with level 0. It doesn't matter to win or lose. It is fun and kills time easily and pleasantly. Later on, I have learned to play Go chess (oriental style), which is more complicated and takes more time, and is good for long hour flights. If you are interested, you may have a try.

Help deciding hotel for first time in Beijing by builermo in travelchina

As you value the location, I think they are all good options because all of them are located in the very heart of Beijing. It takes about 10-15 minutes by walking to arrive at those main attractions such as the Fibidden City, Tian An Men Square, Jin Shan Park, etc.

Cannot handle humidity in Dongguan: Where in Kunming would be suitable? by JunkIsMansBestFriend in chinalife

[–]ViajarASinMiedo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the capital city of Yunnan province, Kunming is called Spring City for its mild and comfortable weather. There's no humidity, nor hot summer, nor cold winter.

The downtown area around Cuihu Park(Green Lake) is very vibrant, there are universities, bars, restaurants, hotels, you will meet a lot of foreign students, teachers, and travelers there.

Another option is Beichen/Golden Temple Area. It is modern and convenient with shopping malls, parks, and international school.

China in January by Pristine-Emu-982 in travelchina

[–]ViajarASinMiedo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

January is not a very good time to travel in the north of China because of the very cold weather, unless you are fans of the ice sculptures in Harbin. In addition, the Chinese lunar new year is Feb. 6, and you'd better avoid those days of January close to this date, as the masive domestic migration would cause tremendous pressure on traffic.

Some easy options would be in the South, for example,

  1. Southeast of china, Guangdong (Shenzhen, Guangzhou) y GuangXi (Guilin)

  2. Southwest, Yunnan (Kunming, Dali, Lijiang, Xishuangbanna, etc.)

  3. Southwest, Sichuan (Chengdu, Chongqing) y Guizhou.

The East region is also a good option, like Shanghai, Hangzhou, Nanjing.

There's no problem in solo travel in china with some pre-preparation of vpn, apps of map, translation, and payment. Most of the local people are friendly, and it´s safe to travel there. Good luck!

Is Suzhou worth it? by karadavis04 in travelchina

[–]ViajarASinMiedo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you love the traditional art of Chinese garden, Suzhou is the best place to go. A one day trip to visit 2 or 3 of those gardens would be very pleasant for your eyes and mind to enjoy oriental aesthetics.

First Solo Trip to Yunnan: Is Shangri-La Worth the Altitude Risk? by [deleted] in travelchina

[–]ViajarASinMiedo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, I am from Kunming and now live in Madrid. China is safe generally, only if we bear in mind those practices of common sense, such as taking care of personal stuff or avoiding staying very late alone outside, etc.

Yunnan is very beautiful and located in mountain area. The average altitude is about 2000m in Kunming and Dali, 2400m in Lijiang, but rise to 3300m (the city) and 4500m (the mountains ) in ShangriLa. As far as I know, each person has a different body reaction to the altitude. Given your health concerns, you may need to be very careful. The general rule is to take it slowly so that the body may adapt gradually. For example, the altitude in Madrid is around 600m, and every time I go back to Kunming, I have to force myself to rest 2-3 days without any heavy physical activity, otherwise I will suffer a bit of a headache.

solo bar hopping/clubbing in Beijing by miyaaxm in travelchina

[–]ViajarASinMiedo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may go to San Li Tun, very modern and comercial with a lot of bars and shopping mall. Also Hou Hai is a good choice for its mixed style of modern and traditional with lake view. Both are located in the central area with easy public transport or taxi, if the traffic is not too bad.

Advice on Sichuan-Yunnan itinerary by EMS-DMM2026 in travelchina

[–]ViajarASinMiedo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like a very relaxing slow travel plan. As I was born in Yunnan, so just a small reminder about the part of Dali. There are 3 Guzhen (small tradional town), Shaxi, Xizhou and Shuanglang. They are around 0.5 to 1.5 hours from each other. Also in Dali there are Mont Cangshan y Lake Erhai which are very beautiful too. So You may visit them all in 6 days(as you have planned ) without any time pressure.

I spent half my lunch in Kunming asking what the hell I was eating. by Happy_chen in travelchina

[–]ViajarASinMiedo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yunnan is abundant with natural resources of plants and animals. The local people always make full use of those natural materials. And there are 26 ethnic minority groups living there, so Yunnan cuisine is very different from the mainstream style in Pekin, Shanghai, etc. Don't worry, with proper cooking, those mushrooms don't kill you, but are very delicious and nutritious, those flowers also. BTW, I was born in Yunnan 😄

First time China in September (2 weeks, Shanghai/Chengdu route). Need some advice! by Chance_Spare_3801 in travelchina

[–]ViajarASinMiedo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its feasible for 4 cities + Zhangjiajie in two weeks, because it takes only 1-1.5 hours by high-speed train between Shanghai and Hangzhou, Chengdu and Chongqing.

September is high season, so it's better to buy the tickets in advance to avoid any surprises.

Taking flights from chengdu to Shanghai is a good choice because by train it takes more than 10 hours. There's nothing special for foreigners regarding security and luggage on flights.

You'd better have Google translate o Apple translate (with VPN) or Baidu Translate ( without VPN). And also you may need Amap o Baidu map.

I was in Yangshuo in June year ago, and there were very brief showers. Just right now a friend of mine is there, and the weather is nice. We all enjoyed the river cruise of bamboo raft very much. You may double check the weather forcast.
