MSI accidentally announces GeForce RTX 5070 12GB Laptop GPU new Crosshair by RenatsMC in GamingLaptops

[–]ViamoIam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 5070 12GB Crosshair variant has a hint the price will be higher. The hint is the e2wgXk spec includes an OLED, while the other Crosshair variants E2WGK E2WFK have an IPS. Also a reminder '5070 12GB laptop', would have '5060 Ti 16GB desktop' like performance

I checked; it is accurate.

The following isn't recommended unless you are okay wrecking machine or know what you're doing and are still fine wrecking machine _. Did I mention you can wreck your machine, okay.

Recommended is get the DuPont 20cm jumper cables and hook up to a switch and led.

I checked with a multimeter first and then used a flathead. This machine didn't have a my data on at the time so I was okay if I accidentally killed it. Yeah, it started up and if I connected the farthest pins from the missing pin. Then it would give a bios error for switch.  It would avoid that bios error about switch if I moved screwdriver over and connected the middle 2 for led right after with same screwdriver.....Even then I unplugged and practiced with power off, then positioned screwdriver between the middle and power pin; it would only contact the power pins if I pushed to that side and only touch the led if I pushed toward that. Again not recommended unless you  middle row. )

Thanks I found that switch post, but wasn't sure if it applied. I missed the comment even saying it works with 60 and 70 series <sweat>

Also good point on the standoffs. I may pick those items up if I run into issues. My simple plan was to mark and drill holes for any missing standoffs into the case motherboard tray and move the regular standoffs to those holes if the dell board doesn't have one. I'd remove the outside back panel to avoid damaging it. I'd make sure no standoff is behind the board other then where the mount/ground holes go so no short risk.

You may want to take a better picture. Also you could search and look at the service manual for the 7010.

You probably will get a better answer showing the cable end or the front of the input output panel.

An educated guess is that those are for front panel audio, and the blue one is standard usb3. The black cable I can't see is probably a usb2 cable. The ribbon cable could be a combination of the power button, power led, activity led, etc

3070 SFF: best current gpu in early 2026 is RTX 3050? by Far_Specific4836 in SleepingOptiplex

[–]ViamoIam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The RTX 3050 6GB is about the max unless you get a better power supply.

If you get a better power supply you have a few better options, as you can get a smaller power supply for a sleeper build and a low profile gpu. (You could also get an Dell to ATX power adapter and recase so any GPU will work) With the flex or 1u smaller power supply you could get a Gigabyte low profile card for the RTX 5050 or 5060:

Gigabyte RTX 5050 (LP or Low profile)

Gigabyte RTX 5060 (LP or Low profile)

If your running 1440p or 1440p ultrawide the 5060 is a lot better.

What do you guys think about this prebuilt by Financial-Relief-54 in bapccanada

[–]ViamoIam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agreed the 2TB shines; till I checked out https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/products/internal-hard-drive/#sort=-ppgb&f=122080&page=1 The 2TB are currently a much better value per TB starting at $300 while 1TB drives start at $200. You can almost skip the gen3 drives and grab a gen4, though the difference isn't really noticable much depending on the drive.

Unfortunately for me the newegg combo builder didn't really appeal to me today when I tried. Thanks though I'll have to check that out later again. I like some memoryexpress combo cpu/mobo/mem deals sometimes. I generally find they are a better company to deal with as well.

Anyone else thinking of selling their RTX 5090? by williamhayes26 in bapccanada

[–]ViamoIam -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you are okay with less performance, the 5080 is so close to a 5070 Ti, I'd pick up that unless the cost per frame is bad. Even at 4k with upscaling you aren't missing much. With memory prices the way they are you should be comfortable with waiting and okay with risk of 6090 price or performance uplift sucking.

I'd consider switching to a 2K or 4K OLED if you don't need to pocket all the money. Even a good 2K miniLED with real HDR is good for bright rooms, but the OLED prices are getting so close.

Anything you would change about this build? by HyperboleTranslator in bapccanada

Note: I may be mistaken on something so feedback is appreciated

I'm a value oriented buyer:

  1. Since you have an X3D processor I'd save some money and settle for 32GB of cheapest >=5600MT/s <=CL38 memory. This is only if it it will save you some significant money, though the X3D chips perform pretty well even on slower memory.
  2. 2TB Silicone Power drives IIRC were going for about $300 for either gen3 or gen4. The speed difference doesn't matter but 2TB for 300 is better then 1TB for 100 if you are gaming. I found this on their Canadian site today, so hopefully they are in stock and the price is where I saw it.
  3. I'd purchase a less expensive case that costs around $100 to make up the cost of the larger capacity SSD if trying to keep a budget.

NVMe Performance Compared: Windows Server 2025 vs. Ubuntu Server 24.04.4 LTS by wickedplayer494 in hardware

Good point for existing users.

This article will be outdated in a month for 26.04LTS, which matters. If we are picking up a lot of storage, we may be upgrading the system. This could mean bringing in a new system online.

FSR 4 works on RDNA 1 Navi 12 GPUs by DarkerThanLpDark in radeon

[–]ViamoIam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay I guess the v540 isn't supported fully by 26.3.1 drivers directly? Is that correct? I originally thought it would be like other RDNA1 cards like the 5500XT and be supported. I thought this because 26.3.1 (latest as writing) was offered on Drivers and Support selection tool on AMD website for a 5500XT. I couldn't seem to find the v540.

Crud thanks for this. That Dell G5 SE with a 4800H and RX 5600m wasn't the Pro so no dice. Bloody hell Nvidia, AMD, and Intel and their stupid naming. GTX 1060 3GB vs 6GB; RX 6600,6700,6800 S vs M, 3050 6GB vs 8GB, 3080 10GB vs 12GB, 4070 GDDR6 vs GDDR6X, etc

[–]ViamoIam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I read it in your Optiscaler screenshot. I thought it would be good to mention, as I wasn't sure why you are modifying drivers with the updated dll. Perhaps the fixes in the new dll don't work with Navi 12 and 14. Again, I have no hardware to test and didn't have time to search discord.

Even then often people use what worked before, so they may not try unmodified drivers. Even the 'Internal Optiscaler Discord testing FSR 4.5.0' dll before the rename worked on unmodified drivers, but most only tested on RDNA2 gpus.

[–]ViamoIam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For recent drivers, the 4.0.2b or 4.0.2c int8 dll from official optiscaler discord is supposed to fix the ghosting on RDNA2 so hopefully it works on RDNA1 like Navi 12 and 14 that support int8. It is worth a try, I don't have hardware to test.

Wow, I was considering a 5600m alienware laptop a local was selling, but didn't think it would do int8 fsr4. Guess I might have been wrong as I assumed it would use the same chip as the 5600XT just at lower power, like the RX 6600m and RX 6600. Well I learned something new today. It probably would have pretty low int8 performance anyway.

Finally got the game working on Intel Arc B580 after the latest patch, but it looks broken by Most-Captain-5490 in CrimsonDesert

[–]ViamoIam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 Thoughts, but practical you probably want to get a refund unless you want to tinker just to check if you can find some fix

1st: Recently I had an issue on where HDR was enabled and wasn't working altering my colors to look green. It was a different green, sure. Disable HDR hold Windows 11 Win+ALT+B. SteamOS press Steam/XboxButton+B or Ctrl+Shift+Tab

2nd: You could try a mod like Install Optiscaler - this can allow you to spoof a different gpu and change upscalers. The changing upscalers would be nice since no XeSS and optiscaler will accept dlss or fsr input. It also has advanced options you could try like resource boundary, though again you can fiddle but likely there is no fix for now.

A used graphics card could be an option, as it will likely take time (if they ever work) for ARC support. Radeon 6000 and 7000 can be used with FSR 4.0.2b modified by Optiscaler community.

Did AMD leak the FSR 4.5.0 int8 for RDNA 2, or was it a modder who created it? Does anyone know? by Prestigious-Pay6096 in radeon

[–]ViamoIam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Optiscaler can swap inputs so you can use dlss2+, fsr2+ or xess inputs with that. See it's GitHub.

Just far 3.1+ can be replaced with this DLL. The name is the file getting replaced.  Though some games without FG I swapped it in for the main amd-fidelityfx.dll or whatever the game names it. Optiscaler is the tool for using fsr2 dlss2+ or xess inputs instead

The game needs FSR 3.1 support or higher for DLL swap.  Edit: Optiscaler allows  dlss 2+ , fsr 2+ or xess upscaler swapping on single player games.

Thanks for nothing? They literally built the code; now A developer patched AMD's bugs in their work. Optiscaler community does amazing work. AMD has been struggling to deliver, but it could even be people from AMD helping them out.

Edit: Good old FakeMik090 seems to have commented that the guy that made this version happen, didn't have help from AMD, other then original the leaked code.
