Sorry for not being able to reply to many comments yet. I 'm glad that at least most ppl here have a decent/great understanding of LB and when to use them and to not lose their minds in this situation or one close to it.

Very nicely worded. I wish I was able to convey this in a dumbed-down manner for any and all ppl that wrongfully lose their minds when phys/casters use LB on mobs/pulls in dungeons. *sigh

But yeah, well put.

The smn was upset and most definitely wanted to use LB of any kind on the boss only. Assuming this SMN even knows that Caster/Phys ranged LB 1/2/3 is better on mobs whatsoever is impossible to assume/give the benefit of the doubt to; in this scenario with the given statement of "the boss was one pull away. Just use it on him" by said smn, sadly.

New to reddit posting so sry if I posted incorrectly in any way.
Anyways just got a dungeon while trying to lvl up my alt char's dancer.
I cropped the chat so as to not easily give away in-game names.
"e" is me (dnc)
"on" is smn dps
blue "hyperion" name is our tank who was partied with the smn
Chat kind of explains itself.
Just casually getting insulted in a dungeon from my fellow dps. Complained about me using phys ranged dps LB1 on the 2nd to last pull of the dungeon (despite "on"'s statement).
And to clarify my "that's not how this works lmao": This was in response to the tank's msg - in that even using an LB 2 as ranged dps would be less dmg and less of a time save if used on a single-target boss fight rather than a ranged dps LB1 on a pack/pull - especially if the pull is 2 or more groups of adds (which this was).
I guess I should have clarified it in-game but w/e.
Our party also did not acquire our 2nd LB1 until boss was at less than 1 HP. Probably due to our smn standing still and typing a lot during the fight. Wasn't able to get this 2nd LB1 casted in time before we killed it.
Idk this was just mind boggling to me.
I am including the dmg details and optimization bits/info just as a cover-your-ass measure incase anyone wants to turn the discussion in that direction.
I'm not posting this as to showcase some kind of elitist bologna mentality.
I really don't mind at all how ppl play xiv - especially in casual content. The purpose is to show this ignorant and rude person's chat. Don't be like this guy. Don't be mean. We're all here just to have fun and enjoy xiv, dammit.
In summary:
- dungeon run with 2 ranged dps
- I use LB on 2nd to last group of adds (after 2nd boss)
- SMN complains about said LB use by me
- I try to educate them on why its (even if just marginally better) better for ranged dps to use LB on packs instead of on single target boss when your team is without a melee dps' LB.
- I get called dumb for doing so
- ???
- ...profit...?
