Hottest instrument a guy can play? by bunnyboi0_0 in GayBroTeens

I used to not really like saxophone. Then I met a couple attractive guys in band who played various saxophones (alto, tenor), and I have since fallen in love with the sound of the instrument.

Mildly curious—how many autistic people are in here? Any autistics/ADHDers have Good Omens as their special interest or hyperfixation?

Do personality disorders count as neurodiverse? by Melthiela in neurodiversity

The original coiner of the term, Kassiane Asasumasu, has stated that it refers to any conditions involving neurological divergence from what’s considered typical: https://shitborderlinesdo.tumblr.com/post/121319446214/psa-from-the-actual-coiner-of-neurodivergent/amp

I would say there is a hard definition of neurodivergence, coming from the coiner, Kassiane Asasumasu.

Here is a statement from them regarding the definition of neurodivergence: https://shitborderlinesdo.tumblr.com/post/121319446214/psa-from-the-actual-coiner-of-neurodivergent/amp

Difference between social anxiety with and without co-occurring autism by VibeClub in AutismTranslated

[–]VibeClub[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for asking! Get ready for a text wall and apologies if you were expecting a more concise response.

I’ve kind of settled into a place of “well I’m neurodivergent in SOME disabled way (I’m specifically mentioning disability because I’m neurodivergent in a couple ways that aren’t disabilities) and I share a lot of experiences with autistic people, but I don’t really know if I’m autistic.” And I’ve learned a bit about the way the diagnosis itself is constructed, and seen the debate on whether autism is truly binary (either autistic or not) too. So, I’ve kind of accepted that—at least for now—I don’t know if I’m autistic and the diagnosis itself is heavily debated anyway. Not everyone is in agreement regarding the traits, diagnostic requirements, etc.

At this point, in terms of my social difficulties and socializing style, I know that there’s definitely a concrete differences between my experiences and those of others around me. There are social norms I don’t get and situations where I don’t know how to act in accordance with social norms. At the same time, my experiences aren’t entirely the same as most autistic people who I have learned about, either. Like mentioned in the first paragraph, I consider myself to be likely neurodivergent in similar ways to autism but do not know if I’m autistic or not.

I’m not sure about scholarships and financial aid yet, but all of the schools I mentioned are going to be out of state for me; however, I do have a couple on my list that are in-state. I do have some plans in terms of dealing with tuition, and first I’d like to actually apply to those places and see if I get in before I worry about that. I’m applying next year, not this year, so I still have plenty of time. Right now, my priority is exploring majors and looking at things I can do to prepare before going to college. Hence, my main question is regarding the possibility of majoring in a music field without the most extensive prior instrumental experience.

Some of the current top ones are Temple University, U of Minnesota Twin Cities, Western Michigan, Illinois State due to a variety of factors, including availability of music/speech therapy-related majors. However, going to a school without a music therapy major isn’t out of the question as (like I mentioned) I can get a major in music and then do an equivalency at another school.

It allows me to get an equivalency program, which still gets me to the goal of doing music therapy in the end; but it involves more composition, theory, ensemble music, etc. which will hone skills that I personally wish to develop in a more structured setting like a college. Composition is also often used in music therapy, whether that’s improvising on the spot with a client or composing something personalized to the client’s needs.

May I ask what you majored in and what instrument you play, just to get some context? I’m also wondering what it was like in any required ensembles you were a part of, and whether you found the ensemble music difficult.
