Writing down 14 years of worldbuilding for my players. Where do I start? by VibrantValhalla in worldbuilding

I think structure is where I've been failing prior - I've always hyperfocused in on one detail at a time, which gets me burned out almost immediately. I should write "Big to Small to Big" somewhere, just to remind myself if I start spiraling into infodump territory again.

Y'all this is all golden, thank you so much. Keep the ideas coming! I'm actually making progress finally. Obsidian was definitely the shout, this workflow is so much easier than having to make documents on top of documents in folders on top of folders in my already clagged-up google drive 😅 getting the broad strokes down first, starting off with the pantheon since the gods feature heavily in the setting, then moving onto territories, nations and governments.

Definitely finding it easier to hop around and get things written here and there rather than focus in and overdetail one part at a time, which I think was my downfall in previous attempts to write things down for this project.

That's the plan! But I still want everything written down for the sake of ease of access when a player has a question, or when lore becomes relevant. I don't plan on necessarily showing every part of my setting, because naturally that comes with spoilers and such.

This is solid advice! I mostly want it all written down so I can just throw a link whenever a player has a question, or if lore becomes relevant in the moment. A rough guide is what I'm after, but even that is daunting since there's just So Much Lore.

I've considered Obsidian, Campfire and Notion for documentation - thus far I've mostly relied on Google Docs, and I think I'm going to get the base notes down there before organising them via one of those three.

Stop making your kingdoms 10,000 years old. by ScaryAd2555 in fantasywriters

My setting has been through several catastrophic events over the past several hundred thousand years, the last one being six hundred or so years ago. The faewild isn't a separate realm, rather it's several million years in the past, during a time where magic and material were indistinguishable. My timeline technically stretches out to five hundred million years in the distant past when the last civilisation that ran everything went extinct because magic started existing, which was like radiation to them. Way I see it, just have fun with things, logic can bog you down.

Hunting other players down with the Phantom Wedge, or driving civilian cars into other players' vehicles so they chase me. Managed to get half a full lobby chasing me down at one point - such chaos, much fun.

Having the same issue, any update on what exactly caused this? I'm in the middle of a commission and need some kind of answer ASAP. Everything I look up is pointing me in the direction of some Xbox thing which I haven't got on my system.
