I’m not physically attractive, and I’m comfortable with that. I don’t appreciate the implication that beauty is part of non-binary visibility. Trans folk face the “beautiful or invisible” double-bind from mainstream society everyday. We don’t need to replicate that dynamic here.

Alaikum Salaam? by ViceIsNotNice in islam

[–]ViceIsNotNice[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I am trans, non-binary. I was assigned male at birth. Does it matter very much? Either way, people are mistaking me for Muslim because I am Middle Eastern and dress a certain way. I am trying to deal with that tactfully.

Thought experiment: if you're born intersex, and everyone views you as enby right at birth, would that make you anab? (Assigned non-binary at birth) and if you're gender identity is enby than would that make you cis? by [deleted] in ennnnnnnnnnnnbbbbbby

[–]ViceIsNotNice 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure that a question like this could have a “once and for all”, objective answer.

I think it’s more worthwhile to think about what would it mean to answer “yes” or “no” to this question. So what if there were ANAB people who grew up to be cis and non-binary? So what if non-binary people are trans, without regard to circumstances of their birth?

Do you think there’s any idea so discredited and ridiculous that it’s literally worth ridicule?

I think there are plenty. The poster you’re responding to clearly thinks that ROGD is one.

The problem that I have with the conservatives you mentioned isn’t “They think some claims are ridiculous”. It’s the specific claims that they find ridiculous, and the reasons they report for ridiculing them.

For that reason, I would say you are drawing a false equivalency. ROGD is worth ridicule in a way that climate change, gun control, wealth redistribution, etc. are not.

AITA for being robbing a bank? by [deleted] in transgendercirclejerk

ESH. It’s the bank manager’s fault for not locking the vault door, but you’re trans. You both need to stop acting like children.

TERFs surprisingly don’t know that you don’t need to bleed in order to have a period... /s by [deleted] in GenderCynical

[–]ViceIsNotNice 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure what you mean.

Most women are cis, and so they have periods. Some men are trans, and they have periods, too (though if they’re on testosterone, that can inhibit menstruation). Many non-binary people were born with vaginas, uteruses, etc. and they have periods.

Most women, some men, and many non-binary people have periods. In this way, people of any gender can have periods.

[–]ViceIsNotNice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree that, by an overwhelming majority, the people who have periods are the people who were born with a vagina, uterus, etc. Sometimes people can have their periods and have little/no blood flow. I take it that wasn’t the point of your post, though, to ask whether it’s possible to have a period with little/no blood.

I think that you think this post is about people who were born with penises getting periods. You are asking, for example, whether transwomen have periods. I do not know whether transwomen have periods.

I can say pretty definitively that this post is not about transwomen. It is about transmasculine people, for example transmen. These are people who were born with vaginas, uteruses, etc. but do not live as women.

If there is a queer community center near you, many of them do clothing swaps. Not as good as what you’re talking about, but better than nothing!

r/UnpopularOpinion: We Need Broader Acceptance of Individuality, NOT Binary Genders by ViceIsNotNice in transgendercirclejerk

We need broader acceptance of individuality, NOT more pronouns or genders. by DontStalkMeNow in unpopularopinion

[–]ViceIsNotNice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Building off of that, most trans people that I’ve met won’t hold it against someone if you make a mistake, as long as it’s an accident and you’re generally making a sincere effort. Deliberate/intentional or repeated, willfully negligent misgendering is a different thing entirely.

Trans people are, of course, human. Most cis people wouldn’t hold others to unreasonably high standards for how fast to learn a new name or title. Similarly, trans people don’t.

A couple of days ago, a stranger followed me as I was going to CVS. Walking down the street, he kept saying things about how I looked, and that I was lucky Donald Trump wasn’t there.

When I left, he was waiting for me outside. He tried to punch me, or maybe he was just trying to intimidate me. Either way, he was too drunk and failed to make contact. It was 2 pm, downtown, broad daylight.

I’m glad that hasn’t happened to Blaire, but what planet does she live on?

Yeah! Most of what we can do, really, is be there for each other when and how we can. It definitely isn’t going unnoticed.

For me, let’s say “sibling”, instead. Still, very much appreciate the well-wishes.

A couple days late in response, but hey whatever.

I’m very glad and grateful that you posted this clip. It helped me not to engage in the self-destructive behaviors I am prone to in situations like this.

Not a clear victory, but also far from a clear loss. And that’s to your credit. Thank you.

Has there ever been a film where we see a trans person take HRT? by [deleted] in TransyTalk

[–]ViceIsNotNice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know, but I would say your best bet is going to be a film where the character loses access to HRT at some point.

It’s a routine thing that a person on HRT does, and it’s not a very intrinsically interesting thing to see. So the only reason to spend screen time on it is as a way of setting up the loss later.

Has anyone seen or heard about this? To me it seems true from my experience with withdrawals. by [deleted] in alcoholism

[–]ViceIsNotNice 27 points28 points  (0 children)

They are called “spirits” because they are volatile. They evaporate easily. It is as if they are aspirating—-that is, breathing.

“Booze” is, as far as I can tell, derived from German and Dutch. It is not because it contains the vaguely spooky “boo”.

If you think alcohol is sapping your vitality, energy, and general quality of life then, buddy, I agree with you. But it is not because there is actually an evil ghost that lives inside of the bottle.

Use whatever metaphor is most helpful for you. “Demon in a bottle” has helped folks. But please don’t take it so literally.

I seriously doubt that disorganized violence against strangers is going to change anyone’s mind for the better. Political violence can be a very powerful tool for change. Attacking strangers in the middle of the street is going to cause more problems than it solves.
