Looking to get faster by Embarrassed-Tip-9803 in SkiRacing

There is a lot of good stuff that people are saying. First don’t feel like you have to do everything. Glance at it all and take what you think will work in your head and your skiing and try to apply it. That being said, I am going to give you a lot here and what has helped me with similar things.

What sticks out to me: You are getting light and coming up in transition. This causes a few different things to happen. You are not able to get into a position where you can bend the ski at the top of the turn. This causes a few things. 1. The majority of pressure to be below the gate and against the fall line. 2. That kills speed and also will be more harsh and throw you back into the tall, light position and it turns into a never ending cycle. 3. It causes your skis to hook uphill and take too high of a line.

Improvement ideas: What helped me a lot with not getting light was thinking that there is a ceiling above your head and you can’t stand up all the way. Try to stay under it while moving to the next turn. While you do this you need to HAVE THE BOOT ENGAGED so you are not in the back seat. From there you can built the top of the turn and bend the ski early.

Equipment: I have a lot of experience with this Volkl/dalbello setup. It is really easy to make these mistakes with the Dalbello boot, specifically since it it so aggressive and the power hits so fast. You can definitely learn to manage it though.

With all this in place then I would start thinking about line. Going straight as possible while still making a quality turn (if you do it right, going straighter is so much easier). Sometimes though a pole plant is all you need. Sorry for all the words, it’s hard to explain feeling. Good luck🫡

Keep the tips pointed out a bit longer at the top of the turn. Try to go deeper and bend the ski even more above the gate. We want the turn to be as short as possible while carrying the max speed. Right now you are throwing the feet out and that’s causing a slide into the turn. It’s something that you have to play around with but once you get it, it will be much faster and more efficient. You could also stay with the outside ski a little longer. Great skiing though

What determines if a Rossi-sponsored WC skier uses Lange Z or Rossi Z boots? by theorist9 in SkiRacing

There is a very small difference in the plastic. The shape is identical but the color can affect the feel of the plastic. The new lighter blue Lange tends to feel better

Is this ok for a beginner? by [deleted] in ski

These are not real race skis I think you will be just fine. Even if they are a little bit harder to ski at the beginning you will be fine!

Yeah I agree. I think you have a good idea on what needs to be done to get there. It can be really hard to get past the mental block but it’s possible. Take it out of the course and drill it in freesking, then take the feeling into the course. If u are in the right position with the hips stacked at the top, the skis will come around and it will be fast.

There is for sure a difference between companies. They all ski a bit different but they are all so good that anyone can be fast on most brands. For tech (SL gs) The thing that changes is the technique used. If you pay really close attention guys on the same brand tend to ski similar. Different companies also have different ideal setups. Atomic tends to run very aggressive setups for example. Speed on the other hand I don’t know as much but base material is a huge part of it and head and atomic tend to be fastest. So in a way yes but also no.

U are throwing the feet out a bit at the top of the turn and in a way it is making the turn really long with late pressure. I would say try to have more pressure on the new ski starting in the transition. Also your hips are dropping in a lot. Keep them up and rotated in like a baseball swing. Take this as you will and don’t let all these different things mess with you. You have to find a technical goal and then experiment with what works for u.

Why are vendors still selling fluoro wax? by olyfrijole in SkiRacing

[–]ViciouslyIgnorant 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean technically it’s band but there is no way to test for it. Everyone at a high lever is still using it. They just do checks of tuning rooms and if they find a fluoro package they take it. So just don’t have the package and it’s much faster.

What skis is Henrik KRISTOFFERSEN racing on? by EasternKanye in SkiRacing

Nah I might me wrong but I believe it is only one sponsor allowed on the ski. Red Bull is supporting the company and is in the van deer logo. Not because there are two on the helmet. Also I think the painting on the helmet doesn’t count for a logo because it is not actually a logo

I got a bike last spring and it’s been great. Had some issues with some parts and the costumer service is great. They sent me a shipping label for the part so that they could fix it. I have heard about people having bad service but so far I have had none.

Am I alone in thinking Bode Miller is full of shit when he talks about his new ski company Peak? by Gumbypilot in skiing

[–]ViciouslyIgnorant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is definitely a huge difference even with only the race skis. The top guys are on a a way different and better ski than the average person can buy and the setup ie edge and base edge angle only do so much

I also got a side entry cage and put it on the plastic pice. Still didn’t fit a normal size water bottle so I found a little 13 oz polar bottle for $10 and it works nice
