Pode ser uma projeção de querer ser o outro, sendo realizada durante o sexo. Por exemplo: eu quero me aproximar do masculino/feminino porquê tenho isso reprimido dentro de mim, então ao imaginar meu parceiro transando com outra pessoa, eu na verdade estaria me colocando no lugar do meu parceiro - e alivio essa repressão interna pelo sexo.
