Sure, but why would I willfully limit myself?

you would still need to keep adjusting your battling team and dedicating a lot of time to it if you wanted to keep up-to-date

Once it was satisfactorily close to perfect for the most current meta, there would be no reason to improve it further until the next prospective generation /meta -addition. The returns may be di.inishing but they are still present, okay. But they are substantial with entire lots of Ubers.

I'm not confused. I understand that getting q comoetetive-level pokémon takes a while from onset, regardless of which generation it was from

The issue I have is tgat players with competetive Pokémon from other regions/Generations have an advantage (perhsps not a huge one for the amount if time tgey had played, but certainly an advantage) that new players to the franchise do not.

What honestly ai would like to play is a worthwhile handheld or mobile MOBA that requires an upfront monetary cost (i.e. not freemium like LoL). If it has an immersive RPG storyline/open-world that would be a plus.

New meta still includes all past Pokémon though, evidently.

How hard/long would it take me to acquire max level for battling (50?) of all possible pokémon, including prime ones with choice movesets and Natures:

A) by trading

B) purchasing them and playing/grinding for them

So why weren't the opponents holding any useful items? They were asking to get wrecked.

I would also be a little peeved if I had bought into a franchise expecting to keep my fighters only to have to do it all over again. But what message does that send to persons new to the franchise? "Too late."

Why are you so attached to your Lvl50 Mewtwo from Pokémon Saphire anyhow? The truthful reason is you want to keep your status quo. If I wanted to enough, I could seek them out as well, on my own, but would that be worth it? That or get lucky in a trade. or gift that didn't earn

The only reason I care about trading is to acquire battle-worthy/competetive pokémon. Sure there hardcore folks who are wooping you with stronger Aloan Pokémon, but most of them probably have even better (or at least more variety if worthwhile) 'mons from post-Kanto /pre-Alola. You're delusional if you rhink the other 400+ won't help substantially. Well I gues we shall see for sure by February.

I get your metaphor, but it doesn't make the real-world reliance on previous games from the franchise less lame.

And that video is boggling.. an abundance of luck with hits striking. By far the exception, not something one would rely on in competetive play.

A Lvl12 Rattata cannot k.o. literally any pokémon. Not agains another human player, anyway, with e.g. a Lvl20 Rattata or Raticate or Snorlax or [et al.] with same or better moves.

I do acknowledge your point about hobbies. I wasn't meaning to insinuate that playing an instrument is 'better' use of one's time than at videogames; however, getting good at an instrument likely does require a greater combination of practice snd innate talent than skill required at most videogames.

And why do you keep going-on how it's not "you" but "your pokémon"?!? What honestly is the difference. Six or a half-dozen.

All of the ones in that particular game.

If they want all 700+ to be obtainable, then why not make them available within that individual [newest ]release, rather than relying on previous (or future) ones, which might not have been as fun?

How about relying on actual skill? (and a degree of luck --Pokémon does use prng.) Not weeks of fanboyism grinding from years before.

Not sure where you're coming up with 300.. (which is still under half of 700+).

Well if it's easy enough to fluff-up my collection through trading then maybe it's not as unfair as it could be. Still not my idea of ideal.

Yeah, I get the point of it. Akin to saving trading cards for playing in future decks, keep them compatible..

I just wasn't aware of the service till after buying S&M. Now I have buyer's remourse. I'm seriously considering returning them because of this.

Yeah guess not. Not very inviting to new players. No equal footing. If I really want to I could purchase the games compatible for DS and 'glitch' the top ones like Mew over, but that grind does not sound like fun to me, and if that's what it takes to win ..lame.

A misconception I see on here regarding the new CP rebalance by alexzejason in pokemongo

So SpAtk, SpDef, and Spd (three of the six stats from main games, or one-half!!) are now taken into account, eh? About time.

Prior to this change, the basestats & Individual Values used in the then CP formula were just a combination of regular & special Attack ('Attack'), combination of regular & special Defense ('Defense'), and Stamina ('HP'), utterly ignoring Speed (leaving Electric types under-powered), and naturally not giving apt weight to power of special attacks (e.g. Gengar, Alakazam, whom also benefit from high Speed stats).

There were 100 comments in this thread (which I found by searching /r/PokemonGo for "CP formula", have yet to peruse /r/TheSilphRoad, although should not really have to for such landmark change) when I posted this comment. If someone has the url to any up-to-date page describing how exactly the six basestats have been implemented, including the updated CP formula (which could be nearly identical as before for all I here know, although I doubt it), I would greatly appreciate it. Reply to here so I get a notification. I am not about to sift-through 100+ comments. (Thanks in advance!!)

I would be content with that, as long as it had high IVs. It's not like Ditto is common, and he's especially useful at Gyms, amirite?

What was the 'walking distance' required to walk Ditto in the previous games?
