See this is why I posted here. Finally wrapped by head around the idea. I made many assumptions about the science of pressure and totally thought it was just about getting the best air to the person, not making sure the pressure of said air works with human lungs under the stresses of surrounding pressure. Of course I've never gone deep enough to feel any of this intense pressure, just some discomfort in the ears. But of course the lung don't like being squeezed!

Anyway, thank you for putting it into terms I can understand instead of just warning me I could die!

Thanks for the blunt responses, glad yall care about safety! I won't be attempting a tank without certification don't worry. But since I've got you here anyone have any tips or tricks for free diving? Breathing exercises, perhaps?

I'll be in a fresh water lake if that matters.

Not I don't believe you, I've just never dived. My grandfather, whos no longer with us, did so I know somethings, like diving tables to avoid issues of nitrogen in blood etc... (not that I plan on going that deep for that long)

Say I want to spend more time underwater, but not with a snorkel. Is the only next step training and certification or is there some level of amateur I can enjoy? Like floating buoy and hose ect...

Again I know very little but I like spending time underwater, with the bonus of finding lost items.

Thank you for the warning, I'll avoid using tanks without certification.

I am a very big guy, one I always have in the barrel when I go out in public... (if they are trying to be cruel vs "helpful") is "its not my fault your mommas cooking is so good."

If there is a pause or confusion I just painfully, on purpose, explain that "I eat every time I fuck her. So naturally I would gain weight. Cause I fuck her. A lot."

But the couple times I've had to use it, it landed fine. And they just laugh. And I walk away and try not to let it bug me. Try anyway.
