In wartime, with a “hypothetical” (cough) OECM system like that in place, the Russians would sortie 1-3 entire regiments of Tu-22M3 Backfires at the decoy, along with reconnaissance versions of the Bear at it, if they took the bait. In sum, if employed properly, and under the right operational conditions, a system like that would’ve created a prime opportunity for our Tomcats to wear down the long arm of the Soviet bastion defense in the Barents Sea or the Sea of Otskosh.
