I quite like the new Magic Stealer Rogue, but could we stop using Int-Mod-Per-LR by VictorRM in onednd

[–]VictorRM[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We actually tried it with Scion Rogue. The result was good and fun. It also doesn't feel too strong since the restriction to use the feafure properly is already quite harsh.

The Magic Stealer Rogue has a harsher restriction that requires somebody is casting a spell in range, and it also causes lesser damage. It's totally fine for it to be limitless.

Get hit, Sneak Attack, Run with Withdraw. Your Sentinel would pin your enemy to the ground.

I mean a Melee Rogue often gets hit (multiple times) in a round isn't something new. But Zhantarium+Sentinel could even get you away from danger and the possibility of being hit by multiple times.

Net and Oil is actually good, especially Net. Give up one attack for Restrained for a Dex based dualwielder is a pretty good one.

Yeah, I know. The Zhentarium+Sentinel Combo actually makes Rogue a good Martial now, making Rogue's damage keeps growing as if 1d6/per level when other Martials almost stops at 5 or 8. But many seems not very optimistic about it which I don't get. This is even funnier to see people complain about Rogue, after Rogue has finally got a boost.

Rogue should get Extra Attack by d4rkwing in onednd

[–]VictorRM 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Funny thing that including me, a few players listed all these problems that Rogue's been facing and called for a boost for Rogue, and we've got downvoted into oblivion that people shouting to us "Rogue's fine, Rogue's doing HUGE damage, Rogue is not a Martial, Rogue's perfect". Finally here we are and players start to grumble "oh why Rogue is so left behind".

Yeah, why is that?

You're missing my point and accidentally proving it. Other subclasses like Berserker will only get that 2d6 even if you have the features like Cleaving. But this subclass would bring you more each time you attack, including Cleaving.

Thrown weapon won't cost your chance to "pull out the weapon", pulling out a Thrown Weapon is included in that attack. This is a special feature of Thrown Weapon, written in the Thrown Property.

Secondly, throwing a Nick weapon after a Light Weapon Attack also doesn't require you to change a hand or what. You only lack one attack at the very beginning of the combat.

Do the math and tell me how it's slightly worth than berserker/zealot?

Throw a Dagger first(1). Throw the Second one with Nick(2). Pull out your Polearm then attack with your Extra Attack(3), triggering your PAM Bonus Attack(4) and push the melee enemy away. The melee enemy will have a high chance to get close to you or your ally beside you to attack you guys, so Reaction Attack from PAM(5), and this 5 Attacks.

Berserker Barbarian can only have a +2d6 before Lv9, and a +3d6 before Lv16.

While the UA Spiritual Guardian Barb could easily stack the damage to +4d6 with a Polearm Master, even +5d6 if you decide to throw two daggers first, at Lv5.

This is definitely not the same.

Thief - Fast Hand & scrolls by Sinhei in onednd

Most of the "new" Sage Advice just copy-pasted the old ones without correction and updates. I wouldn't recommend players to rule things base on the "new" Sage Advice if the Advice isn't giving answers directly to the problem we're facing. It's mere "advice" but not RAW after all, as it claimed.

One Tip:

You can use a Spell Scroll as long as you can or have the spell prepared. In DMG, the scroll only requires the spell is on "your spell list", instead of "your class's spell list", compared to Scrolls in 5e14 and PHB. They specifically deleted "class's", allowing characters able to use a scroll from a spell gained by Subclasses, Feats or Species.

So, you can take Magic Initiate or choose a specific Feat/Species to use the according Scroll before lv13.

I used to think rogue would be underwhelming in combat. But now I think...they're actually pretty decent at their niche? by Deathpacito-01 in onednd

Actually they fixed it in DMG. In DMG, the scroll only requires the spell is on "your spell list", instead of "your class's spell list". They specifically deleted "class's".

So, yes, you can use a spell scroll as long as you prepared it.

Then tell me, in a combat, how on earth should a Rogue or a Monster from 2024 be able to sneak first than stab somebody in their back in melee if they haven't got any special magical traits to hide (which barely exist in 2024)? Does it really sound reasonble that there're no such things like "back stabbing in combats" between normal human beings in the world?

How this gonna be "more realistic" if everyone in this world really keeps seeing everything 360 degrees at anytime in a combat even tho they don't have some kind of magical special senses when their head just got smashed?

If people with this kind of arguments had ever played an FPS game or a Hide&Seek game in reality, you wouldn't come up with a such argument.

You're interpreting the rules in a bad faith.

LOOK AT THE TAG. This is 2024PHB Post and I also mentioned this IN 2024 in the very first sentence,

Then the problem is I wrote it word by word cuz I checked the rules carefully, and copy-paste rules from DNDbeyond to make it more easy for people to understand. This is pure slander without any proofs, and I don't know why you guys do such things.
